    The last hurrah

    October 19, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Last full day today, and still so much we haven’t done, start the day with a buffet breakfast for the seniors, the lads are awake but still in their room and opt out of brekkie, the buffet is okay and plentiful, either the standard American option of hot and cold including fried chicken and gravy, not the gravy of the UK, they also have carvery, pizza, Mexican, Chinese, Latino and cakes and ice cream if you so desire, plus an Omelette making station. Once breakfast is done we meet the lads and use the bus to go to the Wynn hotel, how the other half live, no celebrities this time, from there to the Sphere, at this stage the lads have had enough walking at leave us to go get food at the LINQ area of town, we venture onto the Venetian hotel to see the gondolas on the recreated streets and canal of Venice, the seniors split up at this point and Janet and I stumble across a bar/casino selling $3 bottles of beer, we stay awhile 😎, Susan and Andrew join us for one.
Once done here we meet the lads at the LINQ area, take in the views and surroundings before we split up Rhys takes the monorail back to the hotel for a nap, Susan and Andrew walk back to the hotel, Janet Joe and I take the monorail to the Westgate hotel, where Elvis had his residency, not a great deal is made of this barring a statue in the foyer, there are legal disputes ongoing between the hotel and the Presley estate,
This evening Susan and Andrew go to the Mandalay Bay hotel to see MJOne Micheal Jackson style cirque de soleil, which they thoroughly enjoy, it’s not Janet, Rhys, Joe or my cuppa , so we go to a comedy night at Tropicana, it’s really good and very funny, although Janet gets the OTT crowd sat next to her.
All back to the hotel and meet up for a beer and a little bit of a flutter, for once we all do ok but not in any life changing amounts.
Last day tomorrow with a late overnight flight.

    Homeward bound

    October 20, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Very lazy start to the day, as we have a late check out, Joe has some purchases in our room but claims there is no room in his case, I meet him and take his case for his mum to re-pack, which she does with ease, it helps when you actually fold stuff (lol). Joe ventures off to find a Denny’s for breakfast whilst Rhys does some last minute shopping and gets breakfast, the oldies meet and put bags in hold for later, then wander to the hotel next door and Irish bar ( is there anywhere that doesn’t have an Irish bar) we have a late breakfast / lunch and a couple of beers, then wander through the hotel we find some seating in a quiet spot and crack open the Prosecco Janet had bought for Susan’s birthday (classy in plastic cups) back to the hotel via the Irish bar, well it was happy hour.
Once back at our hotel we wander out to the pool area for the first time, it’s nice and we could have used it, but not today when everything is packed.
A few last bets on the roulette and fruit machines before the lads come join us. A couple of us get changed ready for the UK weather, and then we head to the airport, straight through check in and security we are at the gate with 2 hrs to kill.
There is a little casino style place if anyone has any spare dollar left.
Just boarding now for the 10hr flight home, 9.30 pm flight time but due to the time difference we won’t land until 15.15 Saturday afternoon. We are all hoping to get some sleep on the plane.

    London to home

    October 21, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

A good flight with BA, even managed a few hours kip, landing at Heathrow slightly early at 3pm local time. Baggage collection is longer than expected. Once we eventually collect our bags it’s time to say our goodbyes to the Taits who are staying over before flying back to Spain tomorrow, thanks for enhancing the trip Andrew and Susan and helping us all make memories.
Joe, Rhys, Janet, and I get the Piccadilly line to St Pancras nice quiet start, interrupted by a local youth playing his music after greeting us with Wagwan, like a scene from top Boy “innit”
Tube soon gets busy and busier, we hit Kings Cross at 18.05 it’s very busy, there is a train to Doncaster at 18.18 quickly book tickets on Trainline that don’t work at the gate so I’m getting a little stressed, eventually (after some arm gesturing) a 12 year old assistant saunters over and just lets us through. I realise the tickets are a split so issued in two parts to Grantham then into Donny, at first, I think we have to change which adds to the stress, we don’t just different assigned seats for each leg. We get on the train and our seats are occupied, unbeknown to us there has been an announcement that there are no seat reservations, I’m obviously still a grouch and the lady and her daughter that has occupied our seats move to the next seat to allow us all to sit together, on the plus side we don’t have to move seats at Grantham, we are out of London never been a fan of London too busy for me.
We are due at Donny at 20.04 with a wait till 20.27 for the train to Scunthorpe, we are all knackered and decide to get a taxi from Doncaster to avoid the wait, right call. Once we get home Joe drops Rhys off home. Now just the bags to unpack and get back into a routine.
Fantastic holiday visiting great cities, ticking off bucket list items. Lots of walking eating and drinking, but most of all lots of laughs and memories with special people.
    Thank you and good night.
