  • Margaret River Day 3

    18 April 2021, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

    No winery today 😔.

Off to Hamelin Bay Beach to see the Sting Rays.

There were not many when we first arrived, but as the afternoon went by more and more came along, there was some big ones too.

Then back to camp for a fire and roasted marshmallows.

  • Margaret River - Glenbrook Eco Camp

    18 April 2021, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

While in Margaret River we stayed at Glenbrook Eco Retreat. The kids had a ball here and so did the adults. It had such a layed back vibe with the vans in the paddocks and all the animals around.

The kids were able to run around and play in the paddocks and feed the horses and pat Barney the donkey, which was their favourite activity. Some of the kangaroos here have these beautiful white markings on their face and body, each one very unique, making them recognisable and therefore some have been given names.

At night, we were able to relax by the fire and have a glass or two of wine while the kids toasted marshmallows.

  • Busselton Jetty

    20 April 2021, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Experienced Busselton’s 1.8km Jetty and underwater observatory today. It was a little more expensive than I thought it was going to be, but we were there and it was something I had wanted to do, so down we went.

There was a train that took you out along the jetty, which the kids were excited about as it meant they did not have to walk. At the end of the jetty is an underwater observatory which goes down 8 metres under the jetty. There were plenty of fish around to watch and some beautiful coral growing on the pillars.

Then, we had a relaxing afternoon at Busselton Brewery with everyone. We even bumped into some friends on the jetty, that we had met at Perlubie Beach and they joined us for a drink.

  • Surfers Point

    22 April 2021, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

What a last day! Margret River was pumping, I’ve always said “when there are more people watching then surfing........ it is getting serious”!
We arrived early and I was hesitant about going out but I wanted to show the boys that I could do it. I suited up, grabbed the 6’1 DHD and hit the channel. It was a very long and nervous paddle out with what seemed like mountains of water pushing through. I hit the lineup and realised I was very under gunned, the 8 to 10 guys in the water had 9 foot plus boards and helmets, half were even wearing life vests which I thought would have been a great idea 😂 .
I was proud of myself for being out there, but I was there to catch waves. It was a cat and mouse game trying get onto the waves without copping a flogging. There was a lot of water moving and the wind was blowing off shore but as it hit the wave face it seemed to amplify creating chop and making the waves very difficult to paddle into. After many attempts, I finally paddled into a wave and it was incredible! The waves had so much power and I was ecstatic. I paddled back out ready for another but instead I got caught inside a BOM! And took a beating I will never forget, just as I was coming up it just ripped me down again, but I kept my cool and finally surfaced. It was strange, but I felt more exited I had survived a monster than actually catching and surfing the wave. I also realised I could manage a beating. I paddled out again and it took a while but I got 3 more waves relatively unscathed.
When I returned to the shore I had a sense of achievement and I received many nods from spectators, I think just paddling out there earned respect.
I had a great week at Margs with 3-5 foot swell and off shore winds all week, it was great! But experiencing it at 8 foot plus was an epic finale 😎.

  • Perth 🤪

    23 April 2021, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

So yesterday I get a phone call from Kat, as we are still in Margaret River and she informs me that the caravan park we booked in Perth is like the ghetto! And there is no way we can safely leave our stuff there without it being stolen! There is junk piles in front of caravans and shazzas everywhere. So we had to find somewhere else to stay.

After finding somewhere else to stay we arrived and settled in, ready to explore Perth. We thought we would start with getting the jobs day out of the way first. While waiting for the car to get a tyre balance we find out Perth is going into a 3 day lockdown starting at midnight 😩. So we race back to the caravan park, pack up the van and high tail it out of Perth!

We found a gravel pit to camp at for the night until we can decide where to next! But, at least we are not trapped in our van. The kids were a bit upset as they missed out on going on the double decker bus, but there is always next year.

So, so long Perth, see you next year. I did not even get a photo 😢

  • The Pinnacles

    24 April 2021, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

On the way to our new camp, we dropped in to see the Pinnacles, some of these limestone structures are 25 000 to 30 000 years old.

  • Seal Lion Adventures

    27 April 2021, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

As usual, the boys went out in the boat for a fish and the next thing we know they are sending us girls selfies with sea lions! Well this was some what acceptable as it meant they had found sea lions and could take us out to see them.

The next morning, we got the boat ready, wetsuits, snorkels and Go Pros and off we set to see and swim with the the sea lions.

When we pulled up at the island we felt a bit better about getting in the water with them as the sea lion tour boat was also there and there was already 20 people in the water swimming.

I was the first one in followed by Cassie. Lachlan had said he would get in as he did not want to regret it if he didn’t get in, Brax had said he was not getting in, but when I looked back he was in the water and patting a sea lion! We all had a blast they were so fun and playful, they kept coming up to us and doing somersaults in the water and through the air. They loved our boat and were very inquisitive with the anchor and engine. We swam and played with them for a good hour. We are looking forward to zipping out and seeing them again.

  • Sandy Cape Snapper

    28 April 2021, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

On the back of a hot fishing tip we were targeting Jewfish off the back of the local reef in the tinny. We had burley flowing and not a bite for 15 minutes. Just as Shaun, Clay and I started to discuss moving my line started to take off, as I lifted the rod the reel begun to sing. I tightened the drag but it was just peeling line off the reel, I couldn’t stop it and Shaun asked “how much line do you have left”, I had a bit but it was as if it was never going to stop. Was it a sting ray, a shark or hopefully a giant Jewfish, these were the questions being asked in the boat. After 10 or so minutes I fought it back to the boat and the monster surfaced, it was a massive snapper! Shaun netted it on the second attempt and it took both of us to lift it in the boat. It measured 86cm long and I’m guessing it was 10-12kg. We filleted it up and half filled the freezer................ yum yum yum 😋
I have heard stories and seen pictures in fishing magazines but I can truely say I never thought I’d ever catch a snapper so big in my lifetime, especially not 100 metres from shore and in 5 metres of water, but I did and it was incredible! 😎

  • Sandy Cape - Jurein Bay

    28 April 2021, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

    Beach days at Sandy Cape!

The boys have been loving it here, they can not get enough of the sand dunes. They have spent the last couple of days sand duning with some friends from the park. They have spent at least 3 to 4 hours every day on the dunes 😆, now they have sore muscles ( which they have never experienced before) and Brax can’t move 😂😂.

I am loving relaxing on the beach while the boys are busy entertained on the dunes.

  • Stockyard Gully Caves

    1 Mei 2021, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

These caves were so much better than we expected. We saw them in advertised in an adventure broacher for $99 a pop and looked them up to see if we could drive there ourselves, we could! ( for free!) So off we set with our head torches charged and ready roll.

You got to the cave by walking down an old river bed. We explored the first cave it was massive and pitch black when you turned off all the torches. We got a hot tip to climb over the rocks at the end of the first cave and keep walking and there is a 2nd cave. This cave was even better than the first, it was so deep and had so many rooms coming off it that just kept going and going, it was a bit scary exploring it with just our little torches.

At the entry of all the caves were these ‘feral’ beehives, they were very interesting to look at and full of bees. In some places the honey comb had fallen down so you could get a closer look at the patterns.

These caves were definitely worth exploring, we would love to come back and spend some more time here.

  • Picking Up Pete

    4 Mei 2021, Australia ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

All day the kids have been asking “what time does Pete fly in?” “How long until we pick up Pete?”

It is safe to say they are excited.

We drove out to the airport and saw Pete’s plane fly in.

Then Brett and Pete were straight into the beers, which Pete probably needed to deal with the over excited Brax and Lachlan who would not stop taking.

Unfortunately, Brett decided on dinner tonight and Pete got party pies and sausage rolls for his first night in the van.

  • Hutt Lagoon

    5 Mei 2021, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

I have been dying to get to this place, not because of the pink lake, but because of the algae pools that are in the centre of the lake.

Hutt lagoon is a salt lake home to the world’s largest micro-algae production facility.

The lake’s iconic pink colouring is a result of the algae production, which produces beta-carotene, a food-colouring agent.

The pools look amazing from the air, like tubs of ice cream, it just amazes me to look them, they just don’t look real.

  • Lucky Bay

    6 Mei 2021, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

The weather started out pretty miserable today, a few massive down pours, but by 11.30 the sun was out and the boys had their lines rigged up and ready to hit the beach for a fish. Unfortunately, no fish today but the kids had a great time digging extremely deep holes, we even lost Lachlan’s head into one at one stage.

Once we got back to camp we treated Pete to one of our seafood cook ups. We got out the last of the Perlubie squid and cuttle fish and battered up some of the snapper from Sandy Cape. It was delicious 🤤.

Aunty Kat decided she would take over teaching the kids today and gave them a science lesson, she taught them how to make a sparkler bomb. After dinner we all went up into the dunes to light it up. The kids thought it was the best thing ever and Lyla kept asking if we could do it again. Apparently next time we are going to use a tennis ball as they shoot into the air ( we need to go shopping for supplies).

  • Kalbarri National Park - Nature’s Window

    7 Mei 2021, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Yesterday, while camped at Lucky Bay camp ground (which only just opened up on the weekend) I popped back to the caravan with Brax to grab some supplies when I got talking to another family passing by. They gave me the exciting news that Kalbarri was opening up at 6pm that night! I couldn’t wait to tell the others. Kat called the ranger to confirm this included the National park and were so excited as it meant we could see Nature’s Window and do the Sky Walk.

We got up early this morning and made our way straight to the National Park. We did drive through Kalbarri and see the destruction the cyclone left behind, many houses destroyed and still not repaired. We will head back in and spend the day there tomorrow as it is such a beautiful town that we would like to explore ( plus the kids saw an amazing park on the water they are dying to get to).

The National Park did not disappoint, it was utterly amazing. We probably saved the best for last, the Z Bend Walk, the kids had so much fun navigating this one, up and down ladders and climbing over rocks to make our way down the gorge and to the water.

Brax concord 2 fears today, he went out on the sky walk, all the way to the end 🤗🤗🤗 and he used a pit toilet 😂😂😂.

We have been saying Pete is our lucky charm as since he has arrived a camp ground we have been wanting to go to has opened up and then Kalbarri National Park opened up! Pete can come and stay anytime 😊

  • Kalbarri National Park - Z Bend Walk

    7 Mei 2021, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

This park of the National Park may have been closed, but we slipped by the sign and made our way down the track and were very glad we did! We had to explain to the boys that sometimes it is ok to break the rules ( isn’t?). They got really freaked out when Uncle Shaun started flying the drone over when we were walking back, they thought it was a ranger checking on us as we were not meant to be on that track 😂😂😂.Baca selengkapnya

  • Kalbarri

    8 Mei 2021, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Got up early and headed into Kalbarri for the day so the kids could make the most of the massive park they had spotted yesterday. Not the most welcoming locals, here. They don’t seem to be happy their town is open again. A very pretty town, but we were ready to move on as we did not feel like we were welcome here.

We did find a beautiful free camp on Murchison river an hour up the road and finished the night off with a fish and a fire.

  • Franccois Peron National Park

    10 Mei 2021, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

What a stunning place, where orange sand and red cliffs meets turquoise water!

It was a very bumpy ride out a 40km sand track to get to the tip of the National park Cape Peron, but it was well worth it. The kids thought it was great trying to see who could bounce the highest on the back seat and if anyone could hit their head in the roof 😂.

We did not spot any sharks but we saw tons of sting rays, then we relaxed on Bottle Beach surrounded by tall red cliffs.

  • Little Lagoon - Shark Bay

    11 Mei 2021, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

It was nice to relax at Little lagoon today after having such a big day exploring yesterday.

We nearly got to see a family of emus go for a swim in the lagoon but a car got bogged and scared them off 😩! I was devastated, I would have loved to have seen emus swimming!

Then Kat, Cas and I we spent the afternoon at the park with kids while the men went squidding. The kids were so funny, they have gone from trying to get Bryon away from their games as he is ‘annoying’ to including him in the game by making him the shark 😂😂. They made fishing rods and would threw them over the edge of the big boat at the park and waited for Byron to take the ‘bait’ and then they would yell that they had caught a shark. They all thought it was a great game including Bryon who was finally being included instead of being moved away.

  • Monkey Mia, WA, Australia

    12 Mei 2021, Australia ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

An early start to see the dolphin feeding at Monkey Mia today. We were lucky as a lovely lady we met at Sandy Cape had started volunteering at the dolphin feeding and chose Lyla to feed a dolphin. Lyla was a bit scared so Lachlan and Brax went down in the water with her. How lucky were they! Out of 250 people, they got to go down and feed a dolphin.

After the dolphin feeding Kat, Cassie and I chilled out by the pool with the kids while the guys went out chasing crabs and fish but were harassed by sharks and a big sea turtle. Then we hit up the beach and hired some peddle boats, Sups and kayaks. We finished the arvo off with cocktails by the water and ice creams for the kids.

The guys did not catch any fish but they saw some big tiger sharks and turtles. Now they are keen to catch some sharks!

The caravan park at Monkey Mia has such a relaxed resort feel to it, we are keen to try and head back there for a few nights after our Steep Point adventures.
