    LEON

    9 de mayo, España ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Ready for my wa. Slept good what is up with no heat in rooms
Thankfully, it was warm under blankets provided. Nice hot shower. Listened to Thursday, Rosary. Been doing lots of talking to myself. It's okay. I am not crazy. Got late start it is okay Leon is under 3 hours.. Nice morning
Beautiful flowers along path. I feel like listening to De Colores. In the city, I got a hostel for 38 dollars in the central part of Leon. I don't know if I will stay here one more night? Got to Leon at about 11 am. Went to the church. The hostel doesn't open until 3 pm. I got to carry my back around. I see other peregrinos carry there as well, getting lunch now mexican restaurant not open. Restaurants seem to open late. Go back this evening. Today did 8 miles. I guess I will go to church and do a tour. Hopefully, they will have lockers? Got into my room early. Rest for a bit washed closed and went to the two churches. Cathedral Leon was beautiful and took mucho pictures. Went to museum. There are so many paintings and other items. Went to Cathedral St. Isidore is a beautiful church as well. Went to the museum as well, was not allowed to take photos. Ate little Mexican tacos pastor not the greatest. Salsa was hot, although. Stopped and got pastries for snacks. Area was very busy. Laying down after 10 pm. Oh, finally, full-size bed. No more twin size. Cannot wait to get back on the road. Enjoy photos. Had to decide which one to send twenty limit per day. .

    Leon half day

    10 de mayo, España ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Well, I am up and ready to go sightseeing for a few hours. Get my morning coffee and pastry"s. Walked to St. Francis church. There was a park next to church. Why can't we on the Tohono O'odham Nation have parks for us to enjoy shade and a place to hang out? St. Francis church was beautiful. Bought an extra pair of reading glasses. Again, it was sad leaving the room. My clothes were dry. I am all packed up. It was a nice stay in this room. I am so far away from home, and I question myself, why am I doing this? Walked by Cathedral Leon people are out in large numbers. Thank god for the Google map to lead me out.I walked over almost two hours to get out of Leon. It got warm today. Did the conversion it was 82 degrees. Yes, I had my coffee. It just makes me sad. I saw several peregrinos leaving late like I am. As I pass people in the opposite direction, the majority of them will say Buenos días or Hola. Then say, "Buen Camino." I think they are wishing me well and maybe prayer or positive thoughts back to them? I walked ten miles. I found the hostel. Had to wait 1 hour to finally get in. Got some snacks and drink next door a little grocery store. I think there may be 2 large cities still to come. I don't feel like stopping in the cities anymore. I might just go thru them. Find the major church and find an albergue outside the city. The time is 6:15. I might go to the store before they close 9pm. Plan to leave early tomorrow morning. I am in La Virgen del Camino.Leer más

La Portela he Valcarce to Santa Maria

    16 de mayo, España ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

I left this morning at 7 ish had my breakfast. It was a nice stay room was warm and bed was comfy. I continue to walk. I was expecting to do 29 miles today. I didn't really see if this was halfway. I am just worried about having a place to stay no more alburgues. Although I did book one for 15 dollars just in case I can't find a hostel. I have been through 2 nice communities. Peregrinos are popping out. I don't feel alone. So I passed these communities, and they seem to have numerous hostel surely they must have some vacancies. Yesterday, it seemed that many weren't walking
already began to sprinkle. It is cold. Have my rain poncho on. It is so green everywhere. Water is coming out of the hills as well springs from rocks. Sprinking heavily now. Stopped and got coffee again to warm up. I noticed so many homes had gardens in their yards. I also noticed numerous mini vans driving on the side roads. Roads are not as wide drivers are courteous of each other, let each pass safely in opposing directions. I think this is how elderly get into the larger cities to get necessities. Most homes have chimneys and smoke coming out. It probably is nice and warm. So charming and so many homes that look as though no one lives in them anymore? It was a tough one today rain, cold, wind, going up on steep paths and roads. It was very muddy, and had to pull out kiking sticks. Numerous areas I was alone. Faster peregrinos would pass. I would feel okay. Don't like looking at the phone for time or distance walked. I thought I checked on a small community that had a hostel and an alburgue. Tried the hostel yea they have a room for me. Took nice, long, hot shower and just layed there on the bed. Had a warm meal and layed down for sleep. What a day. One church I passed abandoned and locked up got the name of it and googled it it was built in the 14th century. Wow. Oh, the area I entered is called Galacia. Patricia they are also known for there lentils and seafood. There are so many more pictures.

    To Sarria.

    17 de mayo, España ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

I don't think I like twin beds anymore, especially if the mattress is hard. I got cold this morning blanket barely kept me warm. The bed was hard, and the room was cold. The shower water was warm packed up. Went and drank a cup of coffee and ate an omelet between two large toast. Met an older lady from Holland. See the picture. She said she was 72 years old. She said she did part of the Camino last year and continued it this year. She said she has back problems and can only walk so far. She could be home, taking it easy in a rocking chair and still being in pain. So she said, "So here I am. I woke up to fog and drizzle. I started my walk. It was to be plus five hours. The fog did not clear until about 12pm. It rained pretty all day. The path was pretty much muddy. I wore my rain gear the whole day. The terrain was not too bad. My shirt and sweater were soaked with my sweat. I again went through numerous small villages. They all had church's. They always seemed to be locked. My Google map pointed me in a different direction. I had to backtrack. I think it would have met back to the original one. I arrived in Samos at about 4 pm. I did 16 miles today. What made it was the muddy path as well as the rain. The room is nice. At least the bed is soft, and the room is warm. Wishing Patricia was on her way. Got the news from her. Saturday, she will try again. It is cold here in Samos. I went to the evening mass. Before I leave, I am going to visit a men's monastery at 11 pm. Met a young man from Holland at supper. Shared our stories. Issac, my Korean friend, bowed out on his journey due to knee problems. Hanh, my young Filipno friend, not only dealing with leg problems. But being attacked by bed bugs. She messaged that she was bitten over 70 times. As I walked this morning, it was eerie silence, no life. Until the sprinkling began , I began to hear the pitter patter on my rain jacket and the hoodie. I decided to take my time and observe my surroundings, and began to be deep in thought.Leer más
