Abflug in Hamburg war um 12:25. Netterweise brachte mich mein Freund mit dem Auto zum Flughafen. Der Abschied viel echt schwer und es sind auch ein paar Tränen geflossen.

Zweiter Zwischenstopp. Am Flughafen war alles ein wenig stressig, da der Flieger aus Helsinki Verspätung hatte und ich durch die Visa Kontrolle, mein Gepäck neu aufgeben und erneuert durch den Security Check musste. Am Ende stellte sich heraus, dass mein Anschlussflieger eine Stunde Verspätung hat und ich mich gar nicht so beeilen hätte müssen.

Second stop. Everything was a bit stressful at the airport, because the plane from Helsinki was delayed and I had to go through the visa control, check in my luggage again and go through the security check again. In the end it turned out that my connecting flight was an hour late and I didn't have to hurry so much.Read more

Endlich nach einer 18 Stunden langen Reise bin ich in Indy angekommen. Ich musste noch kurz auf mein Gepäck warten und meine Gastfamilie wartete draußen schon mich abzuholen.
Die Ankunft erinnerte mich sehr an meine Ankunft in den Staaten vor 5 Jahren zum Start meines Auslandssemester.

Finally after an 18 hour journey I arrived in Indy. I had to wait for my luggage and my host family was waiting outside to pick me up.

Im Auto auf dem Weg zum Haus meiner Gastfamilie schlief ich schon fast ein und zuhause bin ich dann einfach nur noch Tod in mein Bett gefallen. Es ist schön, sein Zimmer nach über 4 Jahren wieder zu sehen.

Erste Woche - first week

Gleich am Montag begann mein Praktikum im Wells Center for Pediatric Research in Indianapolis. Insgesamt geht mein Praktikum 6 Wochen. Die ersten drei verbringe ich in der Zell- und Gentherapie Abteilung. Meine Betreuer sind sehr nett und ich habe viele interessante und neue Dinge lernen können, vorallem viel über die Krankheit Hämophilie.
Am Dienstag- und am Donnerstagabend habe ich meine Freundin Sha wieder gesehen und wir haben lecker zusammen gegessen, mit der Familie gequatscht und sie haben mir beigebracht Pickleball zu spielen. Das ist ein Spiel aus einer Mischung aus Tennis und Tischtennis. Wir hatten sehr viel Spaß!
Am Freitag habe ich mich mit Emilio und Rami getroffen und wir saßen gemeinsam mit anderen Freunden am Feuer.
Nach der vollen Woche war ich sehr kaputt und konnte am Samstag erstmal ausgeschlafen und habe dann die restliche Zeit am Wochenende mit meiner Gastfamilie und deren Familie genossen. Wir waren in der Kirche, haben gegrillt und Spiele gespielt. Es ist schön wieder hier zu sein.

My internship at the Wells Center for Pediatric Research in Indianapolis started on Monday. My internship is in total for 6 weeks. I spend the first three weeks in the cell and gene therapy department. My supervisors are very nice and I was able to learn many interesting and new things, especially a lot about the disease hemophilia.
On Tuesday and Thursday night I saw my friend Sha. We had a delicious meal together, chatted with the family and they taught me to play pickleball. This is a game that is a mixture of tennis and table tennis. We had a lot of fun!
On Friday I met Emilio and Rami and we sat around the fire with other friends.
After the full week I was very exhausted and was able to sleep in on Saturday and then enjoy the rest of the time on the weekend with my host family and their families. We went to church, had a barbecue and played games. It's nice to be back.Read more

Zweite Woche - second week

Diese Woche arbeite ich, in meinem Praktikum, mit jemanden aus Polen zusammen, der mehr in Richtung Biotechnologie arbeitet. Es war sehr interessant sich mit ihm zu unterhalten. Generell sind die meisten Forscher im Labor internationaler Herkunft.
Ich spiele oft mit meiner Familie Eucher. Lanie und ich probiere immer gegen Nick und Melissa zu spielen und gewinnen auch oft :)
Einen anderen Abend war ich bei Sha's Familie und dort haben wir Siedler von Catan gespielt. Pickleball durfte natürlich auch in dieser Woche nicht fehlen. Ich möchte mich ja verbessern.
Am Freitag hatte Emilio Geburtstag und wir hatten einen tollen Abend draußen mit Kuchen, Spielen und Lagerfeuer.
Generell ist das Wetter schön und noch sehr warm. Nur selten regnet es mal.
Ich habe viel Zeit für mich und auch Zeit um mal ein Buch zu lesen. Lanie empfahl mir eines ihrer Bücher: "Verity".
Am Wochenende haben wir die letzten Sachen eingekauft, die Lanie fürs College brauchte. Diese Supermärkte sind riesig...
Und am Sonntag kam die ganze Familie vorbei und wir hatten eine tolle, aber auch traurige Zeit zusammen um Lanie's zu verabschieden.
So schnell ging wieder eine Woche rum...

This week, in my internship, I'm working with someone from Poland who works more towards biotechnology. It was very interesting to talk to him. In general, most of the researchers in the laboratory are internationals.
I often play Eucher with my family. Lanie and I always try to play against Nick and Melissa and often win :)
Another evening I was with Sha's family and there we played Settlers of Catan. Of course Pickleball couldn't be missing this week either. I want to improve myself.
On Friday it was Emilio's birthday and we had a great evening outside with cake, games and a bonfire.
In general, the weather is nice and still very warm. It rarely rains.
I have a lot of time for myself and also time to read a book. Lanie recommended one of her books to me: "Verity".
Over the weekend we bought the last of the things Lanie needed for college. These supermarkets are huge...
And on Sunday the whole family came over and we had a great but also sad time together to say goodbye to Lanie.

Dritte Woche- third week

Wow. Die Zeit rennt. Diese Woche ist Lanie ausgezogen. Während die Familie sie nach Illinois gefahren hat, habe ich auf den Hund aufgepasst und ein wenig gelesen. Es ist komisch ohne sie im Haus.
Einen Abend habe ich wieder Pickleball gespielt. So langsam habe ich den dreh raus. Sha's Familie ist super lieb.
Meine drei Wochen im Gen- und Zelltherapie Labor sind nun schon zu Ende. Es hat mir echt viel Spaß gemacht und ich habe viele Dinge gelernt und zu sehen bekommen. Es war schön auch ab und zu mal deutsch zu sprechen, da mein Betreuer/ Leiter des Labors tatsächlich aus Deutschland kommt.
Am Freitagabend haben Melissa, Nick und ich Micah auf bei seiner Arbeit im Restaurant besucht. Ich habe mir eine sehr leckere Calzone mit Melissa geteilt.
Am Wochenende habe ich ausgeschlafen, war in der Kirche, habe Sport getrieben und Renee, Jason und Savanna (Tante, Onkel und Cousine) kamen zu Besuch. Wir verbrachten den Nachmittag bei tollstem Wetter gemeinsam draußen und spielten Cornwhole und aßen typisch für Indiana - Corn, Maiskolben.

Wow. Time's running. Lanie moved out this week. While the family drove her to Illinois, I took care of the dog and read a little. It's weird without her in the house.
One night I played pickleball again. I'm slowly getting the hang of it. Sha's family is super nice.
My three weeks in the gene and cell therapy laboratory are now over. I really enjoyed it and I learned and saw a lot of new things. It was nice to be able to speak German from time to time, since my supervisor/head of the laboratory actually comes from Germany.
On Friday night, Melissa, Nick and I visited Micah at his work at a restaurant. I shared a very tasty calzone with Melissa.
On the weekends I slept in, went to church, exercised, and Renee, Jason, and Savanna (aunt, uncle, and cousin) came to visit. We spent the afternoon together outside in the best weather and played Cornwhole and ate typical Indiana - Corn.Read more

Vierte Woche - fourth week

Ein sehr ereignisreiches Wochenende liegt hinter mir. Ich habe meine Freundin Bri in Ball State aufm College mit ihrem Freund Brody besucht. Es hat einfach Spaß gemacht! Von langen Gesprächen und viel Essen über chillen am Pool und abends feiern gehen war alles dabei.
Am Sonntagabend habe ich dann noch mit meiner Gastfamilie Oppenheimer im Kino geschaut. Ich kann den Film nur weiterempfehlen, muss ihn aber wohl nochmal schauen, da ich ab und zu dann doch verwirrt war.
Eine coole weitere Woche meines Praktikums ist nun um. Ich habe mit einem tollen Team zusammengearbeitet und mit den Mädels zu Mittag gegessen.
Am Rande: die Supermärkte hier sind einfach riesig...

A very eventful weekend lies behind me. I was visiting my friend Bri at Ball State college with her boyfriend Brody. It was just so much fun! From long conversations and a lot of food to chilling by the pool and partying in the evening, everything was there.
On Sunday evening I went to the cinema with my host family to see Oppenheimer. I can only recommend the movie, but I'll probably have to watch it again because I got confused at times.
Another cool week of my internship is now over. I worked with a great team and had lunch with the girls.

Fünfte Woche - fifth week

Diese Woche war sehr ereignisreich.
Ich hatte einen schönen Abend mit Michael Downtown in Indianapolis. Wir spazierten durch die Stadt, am Kanal entlang und aßen leckere Tacos.
Über den Besuch von Kim aus Chicago habe ich mich sehr gefreut. Wir beobachten mit der ganzen Familie den Aufgang des "Super Blue Moon". Der Mond ist aber nicht blau, wie man evtl denken mag, er erscheint stattdessen etwas größer und etwas heller.
Am Freitag sah ich das Footballspiel meiner alten Highschool mit Micah, seinen Freunden und meiner Freundin Carly. Was war wohl das Motto des Footballspieles?
Es war super schön, wieder zurück zu sein.
Das Highlight am Wochenende: Besuch der Universität in Illinois, das College von Lanie und eines sehr knappen Footballspiels in praller Sonne. Es war richtig schön Lanie wieder zu sehen und Zeit mit allen zu verbringen.
Und nicht zu vergessen: Montag hatte ich frei, aufgrund eines Feiertages :)

This week was very eventful.
I had a great evening with Michael downtown in Indianapolis. We walked around town, along the canal and ate delicious tacos.
I was very happy about Kim's visit from Chicago. We watch the rise of the "Super Blue Moon" with the whole family. However, the moon is not blue as one might think, instead it appears a little larger and a little brighter.
On Friday I watched my old high school football game with Micah, his friends, and my friend Carly. What was the motto of the football game?
It was super nice to be back.
The highlight of the weekend: visiting the University of Illinois, Lanie's college and watching a very close football game in the sun. It was really nice to see Lanie again and spend time with everyone.

Sechste Woche - six week

So schnell ist es zu Ende. Es ist immer traurig sich zu verabschieden, aber ich freue mich auch schon auf den nächsten Abschnitt.
Ich hatte noch eine schöne Woche.
Ich habe Eis gegessen (Cookie dough), war Topgolf spielen, auch wenn ich relativ schlecht war, hat es viel Spaß gemacht!
Ich habe mich von meinen ganzen Laborleitern verabschiedet und bedankt.
Am Freitag Abend hatte ich einen schönen Abend mit der ganzen Familie und nun sitze ich am Gate und warte auf meinen Flieger.

Nach einer längeren Zeit melde ich mich nun auch wieder mal...
Leider gab es einige Anfangsschwierigkeiten. Aufgrund sehr schlechten Wetters, konnte mein Flieger von Indiana nicht nach Philadelphia fliegen und ich konnte erst am nächsten Tag von Indiana über Miami nach Barcelona fliegen.
In Miami hatte ich eine lange Wartezeit und verkürzte sie mit Kubanischen Spezialitäten, die ich probierte.

Unfortunately there were some problems in the beginning. Due to very bad weather, my flight from Indiana couldn't fly to Philadelphia and I couldn't fly from Indiana to Barcelona via Miami until the next day.

Start in Barcelona: meine Zimmer das ich gemietet hatte, gab es nicht und ich bin total froh, dass ich erstmal bei Madita für ein paar Nächte unterkommen konnte.
Sonst ist die Stadt aber sehr schön. Ich war schon am Strand, bin durch die Stadt gelaufen und habe die Sonne und das tolle Wetter genossen.
Die Uni begann dann auch schon gleich. Erst war es ein großers Chaos und ich habe mich gar nicht zurecht gefunden, da der Campus so groß ist. Aber dann habe ich Greata getroffen und zusammen haben wir uns mit den Wegen zu den Klassenräumen helfen können.
Über eine Erasmus-Veranstaltung hat man dann noch mehr Leute kennenlernen können und sich gut zurecht gefunden.
Am Wochenende bin ich mit Madita zusammen nach Madrid gefahren um meine Cousine Ella zu besuchen. Madrid gefiel mir sehr gut und wir hatten eine tolle Zeit zusammen.

Start in Barcelona: the room I had rented didn't exist and I'm really happy that I was able to stay with Madita for a few nights.
Otherwise the city is very beautiful. I've been to the beach, walked through the city and enjoyed the sun and the great weather.
The university started straight away. At first it was a lot of chaos and I couldn't find my way around because the campus is so big. But then I met Greata and together we were able to help each other with directions to the classrooms.
Through an Erasmus event I was able to get to know even more people and find my way around easily.
At the weekend I went to Madrid with Madita to visit my cousin Ella. I really liked Madrid and we had a great time together.Read more

Zweite Woche - second week

Es ist schon wieder sooo viel passiert...
Ich bin in meine neue WG eingezogen und fühle mich wohl.
Ich habe von Erasmus an einer Tour durch das Gotische Viertel teilgenommen und lernte dabei Maya, Rob und Darius kennen, mit denen ich abends dann noch was trinken war.
Meine Mädels aus der Heimat besuchten mich für ein paar Tage und wir besichtigten die Stadt zusammen. Von einer tollen Aussicht über die Stadt über gutes Essen zu einem Strandtag war alles dabei und ich genoss es sehr!
Übers Wochenende feierten wir beim Fest La Mercé in Barcelona und sahen schöne Feuerwerke.
Am Sonntag fuhr ich mit Maya, Rob und Darius nach Castelldefels, einem Strand ein wenig entfernt von Barcelona und wir bewunderten den tollen Sonnenuntergang.

So much has happened again...
I moved into my new shared apartment and feel comfortable.
I took part in an Erasmus tour of the Gothic Quarter and met Maya, Rob and Darius, with whom I had a drink in the evening.
My girls from home visited me for a few days and we toured the city together. From a great view over the city to good food to a day at the beach, everything was there and I really enjoyed it!
Over the weekend we celebrated at the La Mercé festival in Barcelona and saw beautiful fireworks.
On Sunday I drove with Maya, Rob and Darius to Castelldefels, a beach a little away from Barcelona, and we admired the amazing sunset.Read more

Palauet Albéniz, la Mercé, Peter

Ich verbrachte einen tollen Tag mit Greata im Palauet Albéniz. Wir konnten es umsonst betreten, da für das Fest La Mercé Tag der offenen Tür war. La Mercé ist das jährliche Festival (katalanisch: Festa Major) der Stadt Barcelonas.
Zum Abschluss des dreitägigen Festes gab es ein schönes Feuerwerk.
Die Menschentürme, die Castells sind eine katalanischen Tradition und gehen bis auf das 18. Jahrhundert des vorherigen Jahrtausends zurück.
Ich schlenderte mit Maya und Darius durch das schöne Viertel El Born und am Donnerstagabend kam Peter zu Besuch.
Es war wunderschön ihn wieder zu sehen!
Ein Highlight war der Sonnenuntergang am Wasser.

I spent a great day with Greata at the Palauet Albéniz. We were able to enter for free as it was an open day for the La Mercé festival. La Mercé is the annual festival (Catalan: Festa Major) of the city of Barcelona.
At the end of the three-day festival there was a beautiful firework.
The human towers, the castells, are a Catalan tradition and date back to the 18th century of the previous millennium.
I strolled through the beautiful El Born district with Maya and Darius and on Thursday evening Peter came to visit.
It was wonderful to see him again!

Wow die Zeit meines Auslandssemester ist nur so vorbei geflogen... es war schwer Abschied zu nehmen von der tollen Zeit und den ganzen lieben Menschen, die ich kennenlernen durfte! Ich freue mich schon wieder her zu kommen. Aber nun geht's vier Wochen auf Reisen und ich freue mich auch schon wieder nach Hause zu kommen. :)

Ich verbrachte drei tolle Tage in Valencia mit Maya. Leider konnte Greta nicht dabei sein. Valencia... eine ganz süße Stadt und so anderes als Barcelona. Von tollen Fahrradrouten im Park, zum Strand bis zur futuristischen Stadt of Arts and Science und tollem Essen und schönen Gesprächen war alles dabei. DANKE MAYA <3

Nun ist meine erste Reise alleine gestartet. Ich war schon ein bisschen aufgeregt am Anfang, aber mein erstes Hostel war super cool und ich habe gleich am ersten Abend beim Familiendinner sehr nette Leute kennengelernt! Die Alhambra war absolut atemberaubend und es war sehr schön meine Kindheitserinnerungen an dieses Ort aufzufrischen. Leider hat es die anderen Tage sehr viel geregnet, aber Naomi und ich haben es uns gut gehen lassen in einer Teteria. Abends waren wir lecker Tapas essen mit ein paar Leuten aus dem Hostel.

Now I started my first trip alone. I was a bit nervous at the beginning, but my first hostel was super social and I met very nice people at the family dinner on the first evening! The Alhambra was absolutely breathtaking and it was lovely to refresh my childhood memories of this place. Unfortunately it rained a lot the other days, but Naomi and I had a good time in a Teteria. Córdoba hatte ich definitiv nicht auf dem Schirm. Leider hatte ich nur eine Nacht hier. Nachmittags bin ich djrch die süßen kleinen Gässchen geschlendert und habe mir die Moschee, die gleichzeitig auch insich eine Cathedrale hat angeschaut. Es hat echt Spaß gemacht und ich war mit Leuten aus dem Hostel abends auf den Straßen und überall haben wir Menschen getroffen, die Carneval gefeiert haben.

In the afternoon I strolled through the cute little streets and looked at the mosque, which also has a cathedral in itself. It was really fun and I was out on the streets with people from the hostel in the evening and we met people everywhere who were celebrating Carneval.Read more

Wow alleine Reisen macht echt Spaß, aber nach einer Woche, in der ich viel gesehen habe und viele tolle Menschen kennengelernt habe, brauchte ich eine Pause. In Malaga habe ich ein paar Tage mehr verbracht und auch mal die Zeit alleine genossen. Ich habe einen Tagesausflug nach Ronda und zum Caminito del Rey gemacht und kam mal ein bisschen in die Natur und raus aus der Stadt. Das war sehr schön. Aber natürlich durfte ein gutes Tapas Essen im Hostel nicht fehlen!!!

Wow, traveling alone is really fun, but after a week in which I saw a lot and met a lot of great people, I needed a break. I spent a few more days in Malaga and also enjoyed the time alone. I took a day trip to Ronda and the Caminito del Rey and got into nature for a bit and got out of the city. That was really nice. But of course a good tapas meal in the hostel couldn't be missed!!!Read more

Nach den letzten Stadttouren wollte ich gerne nochmal ans Wasser. Ich sah einen super schönen Sonnenuntergang, habe auf der gemütlichen Dachterrasse des Hostels Zeit verbracht und den Carnevalsumzügen zugeschaut. Auch war ich das erste mal alleine, alleine in einem Restaurant was essen. Das hat sich schon komisch angefühlt...

Dieses Wochenende traf ich ein paar Freunde aus Barcelona in Sevilla.
Wir waren lecker Frühstück, haben bei einem Stadtrundgang Teil genommen, der Musik bei einem Festival gelauscht, waren feiern und haben vor allem das gute Wetter unterwandert beim Picknick am Fluss genossen. Es war richtig schön bekannte Gesichter wieder zu sehen!
Sevilla ist mein letzter stopp bevor es weiter Richtung Marokko geht. Es ist eine super Erfahrung mal alleine zu reisen und in Spanien kommt man super mit dem Bus, Zug oder Blablacar von A nach B.

This weekend I met some friends from Barcelona in Seville.
We had a delicious breakfast, took part in a city tour, listened to the music at a festival, partied and, above all, enjoyed the good weather with a picnic by the river. It was really nice to see familiar faces again!
Seville is my last stop before continuing towards Morocco. It's a great experience to travel alone and in Spain you can easily get from A to B by bus, train or Blablacar.Read more

Von Sevilla ging meine Reise weiter mit Blablacar nach Algeciras um von dort mit der Fähre nach Marokko zu fahren und dann mit dem Bus von Tanger weiter nach Chefchaouen. Chefchaouen, auch "die blaue Stadt im Norden" genannt, ist wirklich süß und blau. Ich ließ mich durch die kleinen Gassen treiben und wanderte hoch zur Spanischen Kirche, um einen tollen Ausblick über die Stadt zu genießen. Marokko ist schon etwas anders als Spanien um es alleine zu bereisen, aber die Einheimischen sind sehr gastfreundlich und ich kam in einem tollen Riad unter inklusive Frühstück. Man muss nur wissen, dass man mit jedem um einen Preis verhandeln muss, sei es mit dem Taxifahrer oder einem Händler der Obst verkauft. Die Fahrt nach Chefchaouen durchs Rid-Gebirge war schön und alles ist super grün.

From Seville my journey continued with Blablacar to Algeciras to take the ferry to Morocco and then take the bus from Tangier to Chefchaouen. Chefchaouen, also called "the blue city in the north", is really cute and blue. I drifted through the small streets and hiked up to the Spanish Church to enjoy a great view of the city. Morocco is a bit different than Spain to travel alone, but the locals are very hospitable and I stayed in a great riad including breakfast. Just know that you have to negotiate a price with everyone, be it a taxi driver or a fruit seller. The drive to Chefchaouen through the Rid mountains was beautiful and everything is super green.Read more
