A Friend in Cabo
November 11, 2023 in Mexico ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F
My wife, Gayle and I are fortunate to have a good friends with a residence in Cabo. In years past, we’ve stayed with Bob and his wife Sharon a couple times. Anyway, when Bob found out that we were headed this way, he invited us all to stay. I’m the only one that took him up on it. My first night here I slept 10 hours, something I never do. But after 11 days on a sailboat a real bed felt mighty good . Larry has flown back to Southern California. And Eric has stayed on his boat at night for security reasons.
Bob has been amazingly helpful, I can’t say enough good things about his hospitality. Bob has helped a great deal with our resupply efforts, driving us around town to find propane, groceries, tools etc..
Bob and Sharon‘s Cabo house is very nicely located a couple miles from downtown, with a great view. My favorite place in the house is the roof, which is nicely tiled and has a bamboo cover. Sunrises and sunsets are great.
Also, there’s a wonderful hike up a small mountain from here. that Gayle and I have done many times before. But some new roads have been cut since I was last here. I got going down the wrong road yesterday and was lost for a while. Moreover, I had no ID, no money, no map and no phone. Okay dumb. Anyway, I manage to find the Home Depot nearby his residence, and with the help of a few friendly Mexicans found my way back. By then Bob was out driving around looking for me. Thank goodness I was found before he took off hiking in search.
I did the same hike again today but this time with my phone, ID and money. The vegetation is actually quite lush now. Cabo’s wet season is the summer and they had a hurricane come through a few weeks ago. The cactus and other succulents, including tree trunks , are swelled with water. The look is quite different than in the dry season which is our winter and spring.
Tomorrow morning, Eric and I weigh anchor heading for the Sea of Cortez.Read more
