Today was the last day in Kiruna. During this week i had a lot to study and we only explored the city further in between. I had the chance to rummage through a small library with a lot of very old Sami literature and gained new insights. It's a sad that we couldn't visit the small, exciting villages around Kiruna ... you need a car for that. But today we explored the landscape again, marveled at the mountains from afar and trudged through the melting snow one last time. Spring is coming. It was a great time here and we are looking forward to continuing to Jokkmokk!Leia mais

After an exhausting journey and not the most beautiful arrival, we are now in Jokkmokk. A cultural and geographical Sámi center. We have a small cabine outside the city and some reindeer live around us in the forest. Once again, it is not so easy to get in contact, as many people spend their holidays in their cabins in the mountains. Today we have already visited a beautiful museum, which made our arrival here a little sweeter. Let's see what we will discover in the next few days.Leia mais

Today we visited the two churches in Jokkmokk, unfortunately they were closed. Both very beautiful churches, the old and the new one. The Sami library was also closed - it really seems a bit like a ghost town. The nice thing about the emptiness is the calm nature and the deserted landscape. Today we took a long walk through the "wilderness". It was very nice and quiet. Really relaxing. You just have to be careful not to sink into the snow. In the evening we drove to a hydroelectric power station / dam. Impressive paintings adorn it. What a statement. The area and also the life of the Sami is shaped by the dams and power stations here. A lot of energy is gained. As a result, there were and are many problems and conflicts. I think a lot about Sweden‘s image in Europe and how, for example, other people (indigenous people) suffer from privileges for "us". A couple of reindeer tore me from these thoughts on the way back. They met us on the street again and were looking for dinner on the side of the road.Leia mais

Today we made a campfire outside and grilled (vegetarian) sausages. It was very cold but also a real adventure and a nice experience in the nature.

It was a weekend with long walks and further encounters with reindeer. Today was the last "whole" day in Jokkmokk. There was fresh snow which made the forest particularly magical. It was even quieter than usual and some tracks could be found in the fresh snow. Do you know which animals have sneaked around? Now it's time to pull out the warm boots and stow them in the suitcase. It's a strange feeling to know that spring-like temperatures are waiting at home. I'm looking forward to it, but I will miss the wide views.Leia mais

Back in Luleå - this is where the journey started. We spent the morning in Jokkmokk. It snowed a lot but we discovered a hidden knife workshop / shop. What a great craft! A very nice and special place with a friendly owner. We couldn't go without buying something. Unique pieces. Tomorrow we really go back to Austria.Leia mais
