    Day 1 Portreath - Hayle

    July 4 in England ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Started at Portreath where we left off in 2024. Hilly start then a surprisingly lovely hour of flat walking to Hellsmouth cafe for fish finger sandwiches. After tackling the towans we came across a pop up bar 🤩 a refreshing cider before heading to Hayle. Avoided the industrial part of Hayle by catching the bus to St Ives. A lovely campsite called Ayr is our home for the night.
In my tent by 9:30pm, bliss 🥰

  • Day 2 Zennor - Botallack

    July 5 in England ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

From Zennor the path hugs the coast. Today has been beautiful for the moody skies, mist and raging sea. Quite tough terrain, the sort where it’s uneven & you need to concentrate. No pop up bars today, but a coffee made on the little stove did the trick.
Rewarded with a sweet little campsite and dinner at The Queens Arms. In bed by 9:00pm 💤

  • Day 3 Botallack - Land’s End

    July 6 in England ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

A relatively easy day, even carrying your house on your back. Amazing rock formations and birds galore & sweet donkey. The path got busier as we approached Land’s End. Pitched the tents at The Land’s End campsite. It also has very cool camping cabins with rooftop decks. Not envious at all! Oh & great 5mph signs and dog exercise area!!! 😳Read more

  • Day 4 Land’s End - Mousehole

    July 7 in England ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

What a day - over 16 miles of unforgiving terrain. It started with seals who looked like they were warming their faces in the morning sunshine. Fabulous beaches & and cream tea at Porth Curno. A boulder beach and sketchy path to Lamorna.
A well earned G&T at the Ship Inn in Mousehole then a “hill” to Mousehole campsite not before picking up a box chips (£4.50). Met by Suzzie at the campsite who offered us a bell tent for the price of pitching our tents. What luxury! 😊 Trail magic exists here too…

  • Day 5 Penzance - Praa Sands

    July 8 in England ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

After a good nights sleep in the bell tent we headed into Penzance. Fueled up on a Wetherspoons breakfast, new trail runners for Debbie then an easy walk to Marazion & St Michaels Mount. Dipped our toes in Prussia Cove before a hot sweaty path, battling the ferns to Praa Sands. A chilled glass of white wine before heading up hill to the campsite. Why are they always up a hill!!! 😅Read more

  • Day 6 Praa Sands - Gunwalloe

    July 9 in England ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Woke up early 5:30am to a very misty morning. After a coffee I left sleeping beauty (aka Debbie) and headed to the garage spar for supplies for the day ahead. Packing up in the wet isn’t as much fun but has to be done. Drama of the day - Debbie left her phone in a locker to charge her phone. You guessed it, locker said Nooo. Had to wake the sick 🤒 campsite owner to release it.
Finally on our way we had a relatively flat but insanely humid walk until reaching Porthleven. Pastie number 4 the best so far, cheese and onion 4.5/5 🤩 Retail therapy resulted in a lovely silver ring. Onwards to Loe Bar for a swim in the lake & an opportunity to dry the tents. Came across a pop up campsite in Gunwalloe, too good an opportunity to miss (£4 a night) & a lovely old pub next door. Phone charged and a glass of red before heading to bed happy & tired.

  • Day 7 Gunwalloe - Kynance Cove

    July 10 in England ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

The day started with Sue (a lady staying in her camper van) offering me a cup of coffee from a real mug. Pure luxury! Then left the little pop up campsite in glorious sunshine. The lovely open cliff top walking also meant no relief from the sun so ended up making sleeves out of my towel to stop my arms from burning. Factor 50 just wasn’t cutting the mustard! Walked into Mullion cove for supplies. Filled up with water at the local cricket club and got invited to spend the evening with them, food and an evening of singing sea shanty’s. Also chatted to the Knit & natter group. I could have spent all day there! Reluctantly left, Kynance Cove was waiting, after an extremely hot day we rested for the afternoon on the beach at Kynance. There we met a fellow thru hiker who we named ‘Luke’ as we didn’t know his name. We pitched the tents above Kynance Cove that evening to the most stunning sunset and red moon. Cooked rice and Sardines (needs must) and toasted another fabulous day with a shot of rum.Read more

  • Day 8 Kynance Cove - Coverack

    July 11 in England ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

The day started with a bus ride to Cadgwith as Debbie and I had already walked the next section of the path. Another extremely hot day, the narrow fern enclosed paths making it a tad sticky! The sight of a beachside cafe at Kenack Sands was a relief. Breakfast and a catchup with ‘Luke’ the thru hiker we met yesterday. He was amused to find out we’d given him the name of Luke or Will the walker - real name Miles. Detoured inland to cool down to Coverack. There we rested up at The Bay Hotel. We were offered a lift by a lovely lady working there to our campsite at Roskillys who also make Roskillys ice cream. We declined (not sure why now 😂). It was a great site which I’d love to go back to.Read more

  • Day 9 St Keverne - Mawnan

    July 12 in England ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Up and out early - the path was so much easier than the last couple of days. Shady woods & walking next to the most amazingly peaceful little coves. Stopping to take in the view I got chatting to a lady (Libby) who happened to be the warden of Mawnan church. She offered us the field next to the church to pitch our tents. There has been so much kindness shown on this trip - thank you Libby.
The day included two ferries - Gillian ferry & the Helford river crossing. Bumped into Miles again aka Luke at the Ferry Boat Inn in Helford while stopping for a drink and to charge our phones.
Also took a little tumble (no.2) great bruise to show for it… need to look where I’m going before heading to our camp spot at Mawnan Church Field.

  • Day 10 Mawnan - Porthscatho

    July 13 in England ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Left early so they could mow the field we were so kindly given for the night. Flat walk through Falmouth, always seems odd in a busy town after the quiet of the path. Caught the ferry to St Maws where we had lovely meal in The Watch House before catching a second ferry to Place. Checked out St Anthony’s church along the way. Walked to our campsite, 16 miles ticked off. The sailing club was our spot for the evening, £1 membership for the night and a glass of wine a fiver (Wetherspoons you have competition). Maybe a large glass wasn’t the best idea as got lost getting back to the campsite - Debbie to the rescue through cornfields with lots of laughter. Woke to find someone had pinned my wet smalls to the notice board… 🫣Read more

  • Day 11 Porthscatho - Portloe

    July 14 in England ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

A day of food! Pan au chocolate & coffee for breakfast - 10am Greek yogurt with a sprinkling of 3 day old flapjack - Lobster lunch with a whole meal veggie pastie on the side & pizza for dinner. Pastie 3/5
Achilles tendon playing up, 8 out of 10. Not so bad on a flat pavement but difficult on the narrow ups and downs of the SWCP. Debbie carried on for the remainder of the path, I bailed and went to The Ship Inn in Portloe. Now to find a way to the campsite! Googled busses, next one 7am the following day, taxi 2.5 hour wait. Ended up getting a lift for the 25 min journey from a very kind local, Andy. Debbie arrived a few hours later saying the walk was hard going with lots of the path overgrown with ferns above head height, so restricted viewing.
Now tucked up in my tent listening to the rain with pizza in my tummy and a cold glass of white wine in hand or shoe as the case may be…

  • Day 12 - A rest day

    July 15 in England ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

A rest day as Achilles tendon said no walking today please.
Bus to St Austell to collect the car and found a campsite on the beach at Pentewan. Lovely nap on the beach and a Thai curry in the evening.

  • Day 13 Eden Project

    July 16 in England ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

A fabulous morning spent at the Eden Project. The last time I was here was 24 years ago when my sons were just 3 & 9. Penguins would not let me upload enough pics, amazing place!
Then scallops for lunch in a misty Mevagissy and a stroll around the shops.
Back to a days hiking tomorrow!
