Today we continued our road-trip: first stop was Death Valley. From the AirBnB it was a short drive west. Driving we saw literally nothing but cars and desert. No animals and for sure no water 💦 or smithing slightly green. Ok, not absolutely correct, there are some desert plants 🌱- not pretty but a little green. Nevertheless the drive and Death Valley National Park was scenic in its own way!
Right at the entrance of the National Park was Zabriskie Point - a popular lookout point. You get a good view of the dry mountains and desert of Death Valley 🏜.
From there we drove to the information center and bought a annual National Park pass, which is valid at all the NPs that we are going to visit in the states. The lady at the information told us about some nice spots we should visit today. And by visiting I mean, drive there and then just get out of the car for a nice picture and a glimpse and get back into the car. It’s just too hot to move or do anymore than necessary walking.
Badwater Basin was the next stop. A giant area of dried saltwater spots without any wind or air moving. It is 86 m below sea-level 😳.
On our way back we took a little of the main road street called the Artist’s Drive, a one way and narrow road. It was a very scenic drive through high and narrow stone walls. We stopped at a point called Artist’s Palette. The mountains ⛰ showed many different colors- explaining the name. The picture reminds me a little bit of my cousin’s pictures of rainbow mountain in Peru.
The last stop in Death Valley was Dante’s View - a nice lookout point on top of a mountain - a little colder than the rest of Death Valley (by a little I mean like 33 instead of 43). We got a great view of some more dry parts of DV.

Heute setzten wir unseren Roadtrip fort. Der erste Halt: Death Valley. Von dem AirBnB aus war es eine relativ kurze Fahrt westlich. Beim Fahren sahen wir buchstäblich nichts außer Autos und die Wüste. Keine Tiere und mit absoluter Sicherheit kein Wasser 💦 oder geschweige denn etwas grünes. Ok, nicht ganz richtig, es gibt einige Wüstenpflanzen 🌱- nicht schön, aber ein wenig grün. Dennoch war der Drive und Death Valley Nationalpark auf seine eigene Weise landschaftlich interessant !
Direkt am Eingang des Nationalparks befand sich der Zabriskie Point - ein beliebter Aussichtspunkt. Von dort hat man einen guten Blick auf die trockenen Berge und die Wüste des Death Valley 🏜. Es waren ca. 43 Grad draußen.
Von dort fuhren wir zum Informationszentrum und kauften einen Nationalpark übergreifenden Zugangspass, der für alle NPs gültig ist, die wir in den Staaten besuchen werden. Die Dame an der Information erzählte uns von einigen Orten, die wir heute besuchen sollten. Und mit besuchen meine ich, dorthin fahren und dann schnell aus dem Auto steigen, für ein schönes Bild und einen Blick und zurück ins klimatisierte Auto. Es ist einfach zu heiß, um sich mehr als nötig zu bewegen.
Die Badwater Basin war unsere nächste Station. Es ist ein riesiges trockenes Salz-gebiet (sieht ein bisschen aus wie eine getrocknete Salzwüste) und ohne dass sich Wind oder Luft bewegen. Sie liegt 86 m unterhalb dem Meeresspiegel😳.
Auf dem Rückweg nahmen wir einen von der Hauptstraße liegenden Weg, den Artist's Drive. Der ist eine extrem
Schmale Einbahnstraße. Es war eine malerische Fahrt durch hohe und schmale Steinmauern. Wir hielten an einem Punkt namens Artist's Palette an. Die Berge dort ⛰ zeigten viele verschiedene Farben - was sich schon durch den Namen erklärt 🙈😅. Das Bild erinnert mich ein wenig an die Bilder meiner Cousine vom Rainbowmountain in Peru.
Die letzte Station im Death Valley war Dante's View - ein Aussichtspunkt auf einem Berg - endlich etwas kälter als der Rest des Death Valley (mit etwas meine ich 33 statt 43). Wir hatten einen tollen Blick auf einige trockenere Teile des DV.Read more
