After Maine lobster tacos & a local Yazoo beer from the plaza stalls it's showtime. With a big bag of popcorn purchased (cheddar & caramel flavour ..... it really works) it's showtime !! Artists old & new performed & the announcer did his part advertising Opry goods & upcoming local events. Biggest ovation was for Brad Paisley one of the newer country stars. Great night. !!Read more

Boondocking at the Fair, it's huge, a cross between an Agricultural/Horse show & a funfair with food stalls galore !! Two 1961 vintages, an Allis-Chambers tractor & Stew !!

Definitely tell we're in the south at Reed Bingham SP. Lovely park with lake & big sites with moss hanging from the trees. Walked swamp trails up the Little River, saw plenty birds & palms but no alligators !! Squirrels are busy burying acorns & are bold as brass, had one on the step this morning. Stew's in his element are there are lots of birds here. Protected gopher tortoise burrows are everywhere marked with flags, saw one today !!Read more

Dinner with RV friends David & Linda, guided tour of cotton & peanut fields. Fried shrimp, catfish & flounder was good, but highlights were the pecan trees with nuts for the picking & the alligator at the deck in the millpond. They have a Jeep Sport, may be possible tow vehicle for us ??Read more

Campfire on a Full Moon

Last night at Reed Bingham SP, smoked salmon on the campfire, then sat outside watching the full moon rise with a wee dram & chocolate !! It's 9pm & temp is 73f, lucky to get that in Brechin in the summer !!!Read more

Truly wild swamp in SE Georgia, campground is in the trees & deer & squirrels are all around us. Boat tour of the swamp was amazing, gators everywhere in Billy's Lake. Big cypress trees with hanging Spanish moss, water lilies & yellow flowers. Lots of birds - blue herons, egrets (big & small), ibis, cormorants, kingfishers & vultures circling. Turtles out basking in the sun & fish jumping. This place is full of life. Scenery is spectacular & water was dark & peaty but clear.Read more

Rented a motorboat to go back out into the swamp. It's a bit different from the tour as you're much closer to the dark water. Cooler mornings and there's a mist over the water as we head out down Billy's Lake to Billy's Island where we moored up & hiked a short trail. Billy Bowlegs a Seminole Indian took refuge here after a battle with government troops. There used to be a logging camp on the island in the early 1900s & around 600 people lived there. Again saw lots of birds & gators, a wildlife paradise !!!Read more

Florida & temps are mid 80Fs during the day. All the snowbirds are heading here for the winter RVs of all shapes & sizes. Resort has a sulphur spring lagoon surrounded by palm trees, which is at 72F all year round, folks here are not using it as it's too cold out !!!! For us it's perfect to swim. Good biking round the campground & its trails. Birds here are used to people, ibis, herons & the highlight 2 sandhill cranes.Read more

Amazing place, we're here visiting friends we met at the rally in Syracuse, NY, they winter here in this gated community. You buy a lot or 2 & either park your coach or build a house which has integrated RV & car parking/garage Some places are huge, grounds are beautifully landscaped, there are 2 lakes, 2 clubhouses, 2 swimming pools & much more. Met Joe & Sharon at the pool & they kindly showed us their beautiful home they designed & built. We're only here for a week, but (note for future) there are places to rent on a month by month basis. Wildlife - cranes, ibis, egrets, cardinals, squirrels, lizards & turtles.Read more

Dinner with friends at Peebles, it's been in business since 1947 & still family owned. Looked like a shack, but had to queue for a table. Ribs cooked in the back. Great atmosphere & food!!

Invite said to bring an appetiser to share & byob, what a great idea, lots of different types of dishes to try. Had a wonderful time with old & new friends !! Second stop St Pete beach then lunch at 400 Beach Seafood & Tap Bar. Food was fab, Stew had oysters & we shared fried calamari & a seafood salad with shrimp, scallops & crab - yummy !!! Beer from the local 3 Daughters Brewery was good too.

On our bikes for 25 miles along the Van Fleet Trail swampy woodlands & farms on either side. Wildlife sightings - herons, egrets, wood storks, hawks, turtles, snakes & lots of small birds. Should be renamed the Tortoise Trail as highlight were the many tortoises along the way, 1 bigger than Stew's bike helmet was scared of nothing !!Read more

Made it to Lakeland !!! Just down the road from MOSN. Foggy side windows are being replaced & we're staying in their parking lot for a couple of nights. Coffee & donuts on recliners in their waiting area. Even here we see great natural wonders !!! We can see clearly now the fog has gone !!!Read more

Big resort with lots of snowbirds from up north spending the winter in sunny Florida, where temp is still in the low 80f. Golf carts everywhere, they had a couple of competitions, on 11th was a Veterans scramble. So we hit the driving range, borrowed the golf pro's left handed clubs for Stew & hired a set for me then hit a few balls, badly. Not played for years & it showed. Googled how to hold the club then hit some more balls, much better !!
Will be heading north to Atlanta over the next few days. Fly back to Scotland Nov 23rd !!Read more

Georgia had a dry summer, so not a lot of water flowing over the falls, which are below a damned lake, so got up close by climbing down to the rocks. Staying in the campground for a few days & it gets chilly overnight, mid 40f. Leaves on the oaks are huge & falling, hike through the forest back to the falls was great. We are enjoying our last few days here. Special wildlife sitings are the armadillos nosing their way through the leaves looking for food !!Read more

Last stop before the motorhome goes into storage. Cleaning & packing on the agenda. Campground is on the edge of Allatoona Lake & pretty quiet as the temp has dropped, it's been mid 50f the last few days & near freezing overnight. Good test for our heating & acclimatising us for back in Brechin.
Walked our round the lakeshore as the water is very low & saw some of the many boats berthed in docks here & more on the other side of the lake. This place must be full of boats in the summer !!Read more

Coach now in storage & we're now at the Hyatt hotel, which is quite close to the airport. Planes are coming in to land every couple of minutes behind the Holiday Inn next door.
