Around 10 pm we walked to the Red Light District to see it at night. It was extremely busy with tons of late night bars and tourists everywhere even on a Monday night. I can't imagine it on a Friday or Saturday evening!Leggi altro

Day 2 Overview

Our second day we had a ticket to see the Anne Frank House and we're considerably less tired. We got breakfast and went to the Rijksmuseum first and while we were there the sky turned blue and that helped me to wake up. We walked to the Anne Frank House, had dinner at Pazzi, and also walked to the Red Light District to see what it was all about.

One of my favorite moments was going to "Amsterdam's Smallest Cheese Shop" and seeing a cheese head on a bike! The owner (a Dutch person) said "Oh yeah, that's from Wisconsin".. when we said we were from Wisconsin he was excited!Leggi altro

We signed up for a Captain Jack's boat tour on the canal.. our tour guide ended up being named Bert and not Jack. There were drinks and snacks on the boat and we had many great conversations with people from all over on the boat!Leggi altro

We biked to my tattoo appointment which was across the canal and in the Honey Honey Collective tattoo shop. I got my tattoo done by Cassie and it was a great experience!

For dinner (our first big meal of the day) we ate at a restaurant called Meatless District. I only got a picture of my soup which was pretty good. Everything on the menu was vegan.

Day 3 Overview

We finally rented bikes by day 3 because although the city isn't huge we were getting tired of walking, and my tattoo was too far to walk to. Biking in Amsterdam was fun but took some getting used to for me. Luckily Laura used to bike around in China so she led the way most of the time. We took a canal tour and I got my tattoo. We spent more time just biking around to learn the city.Leggi altro

Bike Trip to Zaanse Schans

We booked a bike trip to Zaanse Schans in Zaandam with Kendra. We used electric bikes and it was a beautiful bike ride through the countryside. We saw tons of windmills on the way and cows, sheep, geese, etc. The town of Zaanse Schans is so cute and tons of little shops. There was also a clog museum where you could see and learn about the history of clog making. Kendra was awesome too and told us to come see her show later at Chicago Boom.Leggi altro

Men Impossible

We set up dinner at a vegan place called Men Impossible not fully knowing what to expect. It was a five course meal with amazingly delicious food that does not photograph well. We were seated at a long table and go to talk to other people there including a girl who was from California doing month long trip alone in Paris but stopping in Amsterdam for a few days. They were very specific about the amount of time you would be in the restaurant (no more or less than 90 minutes!)Leggi altro
