  • Cosy Corner Chalets

    April 14, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Decided to head off from Albany a day earlier and knock off a few k's as the track goes past Cosy Corner where we were staying. Had coffee with Greg and Denise, Judy and Julie before Lloydy and I headed off around 9:45. Did 36kms before girls picked us up. I don't think I ever want to see another wind farm again. Gravel track joining turbines had so many hills and a bit of corrugation so sweated buckets. Rewarded shortly after with great downhill single track and also through low lying area where there were numerous bandicoot. Good ride and rewarded by lunch and a few frothies at Boston Brewery.Early runs on the board for the Munda Biddi pool comp with Lloyd suffering a demoralising 2-0 defeat. Bring on Denmark!Read more

    April 15, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Completed the trip to Denmark leaving Cosy Corner around 8:30 and arriving at the Blue Wren Youth Hostel around 1:15. Unfortunately Lloyd picked up a small leak( not the vegetable) and we had to pump the tyre up every few kms. Fixed the tyre at Denmark. Rode about 48kms today averaging around 16kph. Stopped off at Youngs Siding for a coffee and a chat with nearly every local that passed by. Also had lunch on the Hay River- great camping spots. Really lovely ride along the ocean front on the Heritage track. Looking forward to a cold beer at the Denmark pub. $25 for a lamb roast and a glass of red- bargain. Perfect way to spend Lloyd and Judes anniversary! 2nd round of pool played more like bowls as huge slope on table - after 2 long games two balls failed to return and an honourable 1-1 draw was called.Read more

    April 16, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Left Denmark at 8am after a sweet lamb curry pie and coffee at the bakery (that's the Pie Shop,Tim!). Lloyd had a vege pie and a baby chino- it's only the 3rd day and he's already starting to turn! The first 10ks down to Ocean Beach was a dream downhill and gave a false sense of security as to what was to come. Another bloody windfarm with hills to match- I'm fast going off renewable energy. There were some pleasant moments- the coastline between Lights Beach and Greens Pool was magnificent but we were punished with a couple of mongrel hills. Anyhow we made it 51kms at average 13.2 kph. 5 others were at the hut when we arrived - they're part of the Bike Force riding group that we used to see every Saturday morning at Leapfrogs.Read more

Very glad to get to the hut around 2:30. Great first 38km to Kent River but within the next 16km there were long stretches of very soft sand - some of which you couldn't ride and we had to push the bikes a fair bit. Consequently our average speed dropped to 12kph over the 54kms. Kent River was very nice. 11 people in hut tonight so ear plugs will be a must.Read more

    April 19, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

The toughest day so far- started at 8am and arrived into Walpole at 3:45. 5 hrs riding time and 55 kms covered. Started with patches of sand and then countless hills. In between there was some nice single trail through the tingle trees near Valley of Giants and went past a really nice recreation area at Monastery Landing. Looks like we may stay 2 night's just to refresh.Day of rest was spent cleaning bikes, washing cycling gear, changing tube in front tyre of my bike, doing inspections of the bakery ( twice) and two games of pool a steak Santa and a couple of coldies at the pub. Both feeling much better.Read more

Great ride from Walpole. Just over 30kms and only 2:15 riding time arriving at 11:30 after leaving the Walpole Bakery just after 8:15 following consumption of the obligatory breakfast pie and coffee. Lloydy is feeling much better now and has ventured into skinny lattes now. Today's highlight was the Starbucks Recreation Site that had some pretty elaborate artwork set in the Karri forest. Lloyd and I even managed to find our halo's that we somehow displaced.Read more

Nice ride today. Started with 4km uphill towards Mt Franklin to warm us up as it was only 1 degree at 6am. From then on mostly downhill and a lot of single track some of which reputably goes through Tiger snake country. But we got through unscathed aside from multiple scratches from the bushes. Another warm one today (33 deg.) which was surprising as I thought the temperature was supposed to drop. It looks like there will be a full house tonight at the hut. I counted 21 including us. Dropped into Fernhook Falls but devoid of much water- but looked like a nice area.Read more

    April 22, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

A bit of drizzle last night kept the overnight temperatures up and settled the dust. The Defence Force guys were up at 5am as they were pushing past Northcliffe and camping in the bush. I may have mentioned we were heading to a comfy bed, hot meals and cold beer a few times which was met by the obvious response. Ride was good and mainly on good gravel roads. A bit hilly but average speed was just under 14kph and the 48km ride took 3.5 hrs riding time and we arrived at12:30. We are staying at the Northcliffe Pub even though it is closed today I think we are the only ones here. Rode 2km to the Workers Club ( I had to explain the concept of work to Lloydy but not sure he understood) and after a great Chicken Parmigiana and a 2-0 thrashing of Lloyd on the pool table we rode the 6km home- yes i dropped my bike lock about 100m from the club and only noticed it missing qhen we got back to the pub!Read more

Fantastic 44km ride through the Karridale Forrests with mixture of gravel road, single track and old rail formation. Lazy 9am start after cooked breakfast at the Naughty Noodle with a young country girl, Hayley from Ravensthorpe who was doing the Bib track. Arrived around 2pm after 3:15 riding time averaging 13.7kph. The last section up to the Gloucester Tree was a 3km series of switchbacks going up 100m in elevation and we were both relieved to get to the top. Along the way we came along a very old bridge at River Road with some good camping spots. The old timber bridge was only for ped traffic and even bike riders had to dismount although I do know of one rider ( whom I can't name for legal reasons) who rode over it- see photo's. All in all great riding weather and good day passing 400km milestone. Dinner at Pemby pub with pork roast and a 2-1 pool win to Gary courtesy of Lloyd sinking the black ball in the wrong pocket. That's 3 up to date.Read more
