      Die kleine Insel Antigua rühmt sich 365 Strände zu haben, für jeden Tag des Jahres einen. Perfekt für uns Strandliebhaber.

      Bei Google Maps suchten wir uns einen schönen Strand heraus, der 20 Fahrminuten entfernt war.

      Diesmal fuhren wir direkt mit dem öffentlichen Bus dorthin. Die Busse dort, sind Minivans mit 15 Sitzen, die alle 10 Minuten fahren. Der Fahrstil, des netten Fahrers, war sehr rasant und wir waren froh, dass es Amilia besser ging und sie sich nicht mehr übergeben musste.

      Wir verbrachten einen superschönen letzten Strandtag am Darkwood Beach. Papa war im karibischen Meer mit 85 km/h Jetski fahren.
      Antigua hat uns sehr gefallen. Songs wie z.B. "We wish you a Merry Christmas" in Reggae Style hörten wir immer wieder in den Bussen und Strandbars.

      Auch sind die Menschen super lieb und offen und gar nicht aufdringlich.

      Blöderweise nahmen der Abend und der anstehende letzte Seetag unserer Reise einen anderen Verlauf als geplant. Der Magen-Darm Virus, den sich Amilia und einige andere Passagiere eingefangen hatten, traf nun auch uns und wir lagen die komplette Nacht und den nächsten Tag flach und konnten die Kabine beim letzten Seetag nicht verlassen 🤢

      Wir sind sehr froh, dass wir am nächsten Tag nicht nach Hause fliegen mussten und noch fünf Tage in der Dominikanischen Republik verbringen dürfen.

      Abgesehen davon hat es uns auf der AIDA sehr gut gefallen. Wir konnten viele tolle Inseln und Menschen in kurzer Zeit kennenlernen.

      Gerade für Kinder ist auf dem Schiff einiges geboten und wir werden mit Sicherheit zurückkehren.      Read more

      St. Johns - Antigua

      January 8 in Antigua and Barbuda ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

      Auf St. Kitts haben uns Kanadier eines anderen Kreuzfahrtschiffes eine Wanderung auf Antigua in den Shirley Heights empfohlen. Daraufhin sind wir Richtung English Harbour mit dem öffentlichen Bus gefahren, für nur 2 $ pro Person. In English Harbour waren viele imposante Yachten. Von dort ging es per Wassertaxi ein paar Minuten zu einem Strand, von dem aus die Tour startete. Die Wanderung bei bestem Wetter war sehr schön, auch wenn wir bei uns Beschilderungen gewohnt sind. Wir sind vorbei an vielen Kakteen und interessanten Steinformationen. Oben angekommen hatten wir einen schönen Ausblick auf English Harbour. Wieder unten angekommen haben wir wieder am Strand relaxed. Zurück ging es wieder mit dem offiziellen Bus, den man einfach zu sich winkt und Stop sagt, wenn man aussteigen will.Read more

      This morning was the ship building challenge. It was great fun watching contestants show off their sea worth vessels.
      Arrived in St John's at noon. We did our own tour. The sidewalks were definitely arduous to walk.
      Visited the Museum of Antigua & Barbuda. A small museum that gives you a basic overview of the islands history. On to one of the local churches, The Cathedral Church of St John. The outside looks a bit run down. Then we meandered our way back to the ship with a few stops at the shops.      Read more

      Antigua

      Vorweg: heute waren neben uns die Celebrity Equinox (das Schwesterschiff der Celebroty Silhouette von gestern) und die Seabourn Ovation auf Antigua. Heute ging es auf eine 6-Stunden-Tour mit Busfahrt und Katamaran-Fahrt (inkl. Baden).
      Die Bustour war schön, die Landschaft interessant. Die Straßen waren teilweise sehr holprig. Unsere Guide war sehr gesprächig, sie hat während der 3,5 Stunden Bus-Tour gefühlt nicht einmal Luft geholt. Die drei Stopps waren beeindruckend, hier könnte man ein bisschen mehr Zeit einplanen.
      Die Katamaran-Tour war hervorragend. Die Crew war witzig, es gab leckeres Essen, die Bucht zum Baden war sehr schön.
      Insgesamt ein sehr schöner Ausflug auf einer landschaftlich sehr schönen Insel.      Read more

      Beach hopping and cocktails

      Heute ging es nach Antigua. Ausgesprochen wird es aber nur antiga. Wir hatten eine sehr gute Tour mit Stopps an verschiedenen Stränden. Danach waren wir noch kurz in der Stadt, die uns aber persönlich nich so gefallen hat. Nach einem kleinen bisschen erholen haben wir an einen cocktail mixkurs teilgenommen, der war wirklich super gut.Read more

      Early up again and watched the ship pull into Antigua still amazes me how the drive these huge ships into these tiny ports.
      The weather isn't brilliant at the minute, we've got the Caribbean Liquid Sunshine... we know it as rain...
      But it is warm and going to rise to around 80° according to the weather forecast.
      Anyway I believe the weather at home is rubbish at the moment....so that helps....LOL.
      Boy has the weather changed its 10am ish and its topping at least 80°.
      Just going to have a walk around the town, which is normally all we do at these ports, unless there's something we really want to see.
      The ship and the getting there is the best part..in my humble opinion anyway
      ..... First impressions of St Johns, which is where we are in Antigua, are good, people seem really friendly as normally is the case in the Caribbean.
      Even the taxi and minibus drivers are very polite when you refuse them.
      The reply from them is always "have a good day sir".
      Had a look around the old cricket ground which I must have seen on tv 70s or 80s, right across the road is the fire station with its two immaculate fire engines
      Then just around the corner is the prison, which was built in 1735 and is still in use and has 300 inmates.
      After about an hour or so I took Sheila back to the ship and I went exploring, looking for a local bar.
      I don't like the tourist type bars they have by the ship in any port you go to.
      They are not really authentic.
      Anyway I found what I was looking for...it was called "Vics Place" and I was the only white face.
      I had a brilliant hour or so watching cricket on tv with the locals.
      The evening consisted of a quiz (again)... a brilliant singers and dancers Broadway show. And chatting with some great company we've met.      Read more

      We’re docked with 2 other large cruise ships today (adventure of the seas and celebrity summit). I had to do Gangway in the morning but now I’m off with another photog Marie. After walking around for a while we went to a café called Waterview Café and bar for some lunch and wifi. Both were disappointing. It was a nice view though. The café is normally just over a bridge from the ship but instead you have to go around the back. The bridge is still there but it’s destroyed. There was also lots of little fishing boats just off shore that were half under water. This is another port where you can still see some of the affects of the hurricane.
      We both however did still really need wifi so we are now having some ice cream for dessert. This time both the ice cream and the wifi are good.
      This is definitely not my favourite Caribbean port but it’s nice. You don’t need to walk far from the ship for anything.
      On the gangway this morning was a steel drum band. They had all the passengers dancing. Some pictures of them will be posted later.      Read more

      After sailing through some pretty stormy seas after leaving La Coruna, by the time we sailed just south of the Azores, the weather had improved significantly and we were able to wander around the ship and attempt to find our sea legs. We arrived in Antigua to clear and sunny weather and a temperature of 25 degrees, expected to rise to 29 degrees. We found a taxi and headed off to Dickenson Bay and spent a good few hours swimming and just relaxing. We thought we would never get here. The taxi ride cost US$24 return and well worth it.Read more

      Antigua und Barbuda, zwei Inseln, ein Staat, mit der Währung EC$ (Ostkaribischer Dollar), die auf vielen westindischen Inseln Anwendung findet, neben US $ und auch €.
      Früher britisch, seit 1981 unabhängig, gehört aber zum Commonwealth.
      Vom Schiff aus gesehen war Antigua bisher die einladendste Insel.
      Keine Vorbereitungen für Unternehmungen an Land getroffen. Direkt am Steg buhlen Taxifahrer um die Gunst der Kunden. Es geht das Gerücht um, das sie die weiter entfernten Strände als schöner empfehlen um mehr Umsatz zu machen. Eine nette Dame von der Touristinformation hat uns dann eine Inselrundfahrt für 30$ pP empfohlen mit Strandaufenthalt. Mit einigen Mitreisenden haben wir uns dann einen Minibus geteilt.
      Fazit: eine gute Idee, wir haben viel gesehen, sind an vielen Kirchen vorbei gefahren (ich hätte gerne mal eine Lobpreis-Steel-Band gehört), haben Falmouth Harbor besucht und die Befestigungsanlagen der Engländer, die sich mit Kanonen gegen die einsegelnden Franzosen verteidigt haben.
      Dann ging es weiter über die Insel zum karibischen Traumstrand: Jelly Harbor. Nach 2 Stunden relaxen und schwimmen ging es mit dem Minibus wieder zurück zum Schiff.      Read more

      I deportati ad Antigua

      Cristoforo Colombo avvistò le isole di Antigua e Barbuda nel 1493 durante il suo secondo viaggio dando a quella più grande il nome di Santa Maria de la Antigua. L'Inghilterra riuscì a colonizzare le isole nel 1632, con Thomas Warner come primo governatore. Successivamente l'isola fu oggetto di una densa deportazione di galeotti, che trovarono il modo di scampare alle prigioni inglesi per coltivare tabacco, indaco, zenzero e canna da zucchero.
      Nel 2021, a seguito della pandemia diffusa in tutto il mondo, una nuova deportazione ebbe luogo ad Antigua. Protagonisti della deportazione furono i pensionati italiani, che furono tenuti sotto stretta sorveglianza all'interno delle navi sulle quali erano stati trasportati. Il 21 dicembre 2021, nel porto di Saint Johns si potevano contare ben 4 navi, delle quali ben 3 piene di deportati italiani in regime di semilibertà. Le navi furono attraccate una di fianco all'altra, così che i deportati, messi al corrente del loro comune destino, non muovessero una sollevazione popolare. In serata, poi, fu organizzata una cena di gala, nella quale, alla presenza del comandante, fu somministrato una cena di lusso tale da sedare gli animi      Read more
