    Nullarbor (almost done!)

    October 24, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

With a big day in the car ahead of us, we got up early and left Cape Le Grand by 7am (new record on an early start for us...and Meg and Marley literally had to get dragged out of bed!). After a quick stop in Esperance to drop off our recycling, we headed north to Norseman and then started on the long road east. Sadly, someone else's journey had been cut short, a 4WD had rolled over only 10km up the road, belongings strewn everywhere - only positive was the airbag/seatbelt conversation, initiated by the kids, that followed.
A super long day in the car whizzed by with the help of Conor and Maeve's fabulous audiobook - Lion Boy hooked us all and kept us going for a huge 10.5 hour day of driving that involved not much besides straight road and dead roos (occasionally interspersed with a "teacup tree", "undie tree" or roadhouse stop). We finally called it quits at Eucla, just shy of the WA/SA border where we stopped for petrol. Twenty five dollars for a powered campsite, flushing toilets and a view of the ocean beyond seemed like a deal too good to refuse (although the kids would have happily continued just so they could heat the end of the book!).
Dinner and bed in the quiet campground were just what we needed as a prelude to the rude shock of changing time zones a few km down the road the next day!

    Madura Roadhouse

    April 7, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 4 °C

One nght stop here after driving for a few hours. Extremely hot day travelling across the Nullarbor so decided on a powered site to run the aircon. What a relief! From here decided on getting to Norseman as our next destination via travelling on the longest straight road in Australia on the Eyre Highway.Read more

    Madura Caravan Park

    May 12, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Big trip across the Nullabor from Ceduna today. Left Ceduna @ 7.30 am , another cold start !
Stayed at Foreshore Caravan Park in Ceduna, Very nice park , immaculate facilities and only $12 for the night !
Surprised at the immense cropping operations from there to Nundoo where pastoral country took over .
Saltbush and herbage , mallee etc.
West of Nullabor Road house are the flat open plains of the Nullabor with sparse low herbage and bushes and a rare small tree here and there.
We viewed the immense cliffs of the Great Australian Bight on our way to Madura camping ground where we stayed the night for a well earned rest - the trip from Ceduna took 10 hrs :-)!!

    Nullabor here we come!

    October 16, 2014 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 34 °C

Also bleibt gespannt!Read more

    Moondini Bluff

    February 6 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

After 2 good nights at Newman Rocks we got back on the Eyre Hwy heading east. We stopped for lunch at Jillbunya after which we nearly got wiped out by a massive eagle that didn’t really want to leave the carcass it was feasting on in the middle of the road (they really look huge at about 5 feet from the windscreen).
We pulled up for the night at Moodini Bluff which is a designated 24hr rest stop with toilets and dump point, we part away from the main area in amongst the trees that stops Cher from getting panicky 😱
