      BITCH3 Trail #33

      April 10, 2020 in Bahrain ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

It was the hottest day since I arrived a month ago [39C / 102F]. Trail started up near the airport, and had a funny story to go with it. Doing these social distancing trails, the hare goes out early and sets the trail. Slither was that hare, and he made it about 3/4 of the way through, and while going through the town, got picked up by the police for putting down flour. After a couple hours of questioning, another hasher went in and helped explain. They eventually let him go, but the trail had an abrupt ending in the middle of the street. We eventually figured it out, and made our way back to the start. https://www.relive.cc/view/v26M8yKM73ORead more

      Bahrain, Freunde besuchen

      November 18, 2022 in Bahrain ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Dann rufen Sie: Welcome to Bahrain.

      First day in Bahrain

      April 23, 2022 in Bahrain ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

Got my rental car, arrived at my airbnb which has a dope view, took it easy on my first day and got settled in. Drove around a little bit, trying to get a vibe from the place. It's like a lowkey Dubai with island and desert elements. Hard to get a feel at first.Read more

      Bahrain

      January 31, 2023 in Bahrain

      BITCH3 Trail #32 (2nd Anny)

      April 3, 2020 in Bahrain ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

The Bahrain Independent Trail Chasers H3 (BITCH3) is a fairly new club here in Bahrain, hence the second anniversary. You can read about their exploits (and rules) at http://bitch3.com - I volunteered to set another trail while I am in a holding pattern waiting for the COVID 19 to run its course, and get back to travelling. This was another social distancing success. After a good scouting hike on Wednesday, Saigon Sally and I set trail in the morning, and let the pack loose to run it anytime they wanted in the afternoon. There were many accounts posted of finding dead things (bones, skulls, and whole skeletons of various animals) out in the desert. The pack also had to dodge a few horses, and at least one motorcycle. Trail turned out a bit shorter than planned, but anyone who has hared knows, the trail sort of works itself out in its own way. Spring is fading here in Bahrain, and summer is coming . . . so hydrating is getting more important. But until the COVID era is over, y'all have to bring your own beer, and enjoy it in your own time. 2 meters distance, and no groups larger than 5. Get some. https://www.relive.cc/view/v7O9w1GM7LqRead more

      Bab el-Bahrain Souk

      December 28, 2023 in Bahrain ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

During our short layover in Bahrain we had breakfast at Haji's Cafe (Haji Gahwa). It was opened in 1950 and definitely worth a visit while in the souk. The cafe is full of locals enjoying a traditional leisurely breakfast, I really enjoyed the Special Omelette.

      All By Myself . . .

      March 19, 2020 in Bahrain ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Although most social activities are locked down here in Bahrain, like they are all over the world, it is still a lovely place to be. Sunny skies, warm temperatures, and easy to maintain that social distancing. I have vowed to make the most of it, and get in a workout every day. I have an awesome place nearby to meditate while I run . . . as they say . . . "All by myself"

Shave and a Haircut, Two Bits

      March 18, 2020 in Bahrain ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Since my world travel has been temporarily curtailed due to COVID-19, I will not have any Wonders of the World photos, or World Heritage Sites to describe for some time. What I can report from this vagabond lifestyle is that sometimes you just don't have convenient access to things like laundry and haircuts.

Over the past five months, this has created some very entertaining stories of spending 6 hours with the hotel staff in the Solomon Islands trying to keep the washing machine working. Or walking 15 minutes to a shop in Cairo, with a promise to pick up the next morning, only to return to the shop being closed. Calling the number the man provided, he made up several stories about he meant it was going to be three days, not one, or the power was out, etc etc. So these concerns make you really consider how long you are going to wear clothes, and "if its really dirty." :o)

Now haircuts are different, getting one or not, does not make such a big deal, since you can wash your hair everyday. But recently I went 10 weeks without a haircut . . . the longest between haircuts since 1981, before I went to boot camp. Over my 31 year career in the Marines, I estimate I got over 1500 haircuts, even including time in combat environments.

Even after I retired, I religiously scored a haircut every 2 weeks (cutting my annual haircut budget in half :) ). So 10 weeks was starting to freak me out, I hate hair on my neck now. Plus, it made me look old as hell. Also, conserving razor blades, I would normally only shave once a week or so. Yesterday I looked like I was 75, but with a haircut yesterday, and a clean shave today, I look like my normal 35 again. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Life is good, and how was your day?

Could be Time . . . to Head Home

      April 12, 2020 in Bahrain ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

My visa extension runs out today. Unless a last minute miracle happens, I don't think a second extension will be approved. As it stands right now, I will be heading to the airport for the 32 hour trip back around the world to Honolulu. My flight departs at 1:30 am, that will take me from Bahrain to Paris on Gulf Air. Then over to Delta (Air France) from Paris to Los Angeles, and the final leg is Los Angeles to Honolulu, due to arrive at 7:39 PM, all on the same day (Monday, 13 April). There is simply no way to continue to travel until later this year when the COVID beast has been tamed. Frankly, who knows how all that will unfold. Although shorter than anticipated, this trip will in fact have taken me completely around the planet. It was great to have Jo along for the middle 4 months of this journey, glad she got to enjoy all the best parts. It was also excellent to meet and hang out with old friends, and so many new friends.Read more

      Bahrain

      April 22, 2020 in Bahrain ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Bahrain. Muss man?
