Sao Paulo empfängt uns mit viel Stau 🚗🚗 und Dauerregen 🌧. Auch ansonsten gibt es von Sao Paulo nicht allzu positives zu erzählen. Highlights sind eher rar gesät 😅. Im Zentrum hat es ein neben ganz viel Armut auch ein paar schöne Gebäude zu sehen, aber nichts was man unbedingt gesehen haben muss. Im japanischen Viertel Liberdade gibt es immerhin wieder mal gutes Essen aus Fernost 🍜. Ein Farbtupfer in das eher graue Sao Paulo verleiht der Stadt das Viertel Pinheiros, indem wir auch nächtigen. Hier gibt es neben viel Street Art und Graffiti auch eine belebte Gastronomie-Szene, wo wir uns jeweils gerne für ein paar Stunden niederlassen. Aber nach 3 Tagen Dauerregen sind wir dann doch froh wieder weiterzuziehen aus der Megastadt (2. grösste Stadt Lateinamerika’s nach Mexico City).Read more

Kaffeepause

Nachdem das Frühstück im Hotel Kaffee-Technisch eher mau ausfiel machten wir uns auf den Weg aus dem Viertel Republica nach Beco do Batman ("Batman Gasse") . An der Metro angekommen fiel Andreas auf, dass der Google-Übersetzer nicht geht. Das war schlecht, da wir auch an den Automaten keine Tickets für die Metro zu kaufen bekamen. Metro-Tickets gibt es anscheinend nur am mit Menschen besetzen Ticketschalter. Nun ein Versuch mit "Para dos, por favor." hat zum gewünschten Ergebnis geführt. Zwei Einzelfahrten, für insgesamt 8,80 Real (= 1,60€). Da muss München mal mithalten.

Erster Stop: Ein "Unverpackt" Laden, wo Katti sich mit glutenfreien Keksen eindeckt. Wieder, kein Englisch und kein Google Translate. Hände und Füße waren in Benutzung 😄

Zweiter Stop: Coffee Lab. Ein sehr chilliger Kaffeeladen. Und, das Personal spricht Englisch! Voll gut! Super leckerer Kaffee, coole Musik und für Katti gibt's einen Bolo do Milho (= Maiskuchen).Read more

Vila Madalena

When I arrived in SP I got the bus from the airport to the metro and then three different changes until I got to Via Madalena. It was exactly like using the London underground but i was still super impressed with myself 😏 ...although it did take nearly two and a half hours to get there!

I'm staying in Cafe Hostel in Vila Madalena. After settling in I decided to walk round the neighbourhood. It is such a cool part of SP and has a bit of a surfer/ bohemian vibe to it. It doesn't feel dangerous at all or like the concrete jungle I have heard SP be described as. Whilst exploring I stumbled across Baco de Batman or 'Batman's alley' which was full of some incredible street art.

When I got back to the hostel I just chilled for a bit and read my book until I met three English girls. We chatted and cooked dinner together, spaghetti bolognese. By that point I was completely wiped out from the days travelling and headed off to bed although it took forever to actually get to sleep because of how noisy it was.Read more

Vila Madalena walking tour

It is actually exam period for Saša now and tomorrow is her last exam, so she needed to study a little bit. However, I wanted to continue exploring the city, so Saša suggested me to join a free walking tour. It is a travel agency that organizes daily walking tours through Sao Paulo...amazing way how to meet other travelers and get to know the city from a local perspective.

I joined a Vila Madalena tour. Vila Madalena is considered to be the coolest neighbourhood of Sao Paulo. It is known for its bustling nightlife and Sao Paulo bohemian culture and art. The neighbourhood is filled with dozens of galleries, studios, restaurants, bars and series of graffiti covered streets and alleys. The most well known is probably the batman's alley. Nowadays, brazilian graffiti is one of the best in the world. It all started back in the 70's as an important instrument of protest against the distatorship opression that the country suffered.

The tour took 3 hours, which passed super quick thanks to our enthusiastic guide and the good time we were having. If you are ever in Sao Paulo, I really recommend to take one of their tours (www.saopaulofreewalkingtour.com). I discovered the area during the day time, but as I mentioned above, it is a popular place to go out, thats why I could not miss the opportunity to continue exploring the area during the night time as well. So with Sasa and other exchange students we came back later for some caipirinhas..and i have to admit, the Brazilians are the masters at making caipirinhas.Read more

Berlin ahoi

Wir sind nach einer Panne des Busses doch noch irgend wie angekommen in Sao Paulo und übernachten jetzt bei Lincoln. Typisch deutsch hat es uns hier in viertel verschlagen, welches Friedrichshain in nichts nachsteht. Es gibt Kunst an jeder Ecke und unzählige Bars Restaurants und Boutiquen. Sympatische Eckkneipen gibt es leider keine dafür ist der Bezirk hier laut Meinung der Einheimischen sehr sicher. Geht mir zwar nicht ganz auf warum mich hier keiner überfallen sollte, obwohl die Chance für den Dieb auf ein iPhone zu stoßen sehr hoch ist, die Favelas jedoch, wo keiner etwas mitnimmt unsicher sein sollen. Ich als Räuber wäre hier unterwegs. Instagram und influencer ist hier auf jeden Fall ein Thema. Hier sieht man auch zum ersten mal Fahrradfahrer auf den Straßen, natürlich stilecht mit fixi.

Gestern haben wir den letzten gemütlichen bloco der Saison mitgenommen welcher sehr gemütlich war. Generell ist hier bisher alles mit ein paar weniger Menschen denn in Rio zur Zeit und das Wetter ist deutlich angenehmer. Selbst bei Regen sind es konstant 27 gemütliche Grad. Wir verbessern weiter unser Portugiesisch: oi sumida

Beste Konversation mit einem Freund Lincolns. Er hat mal in Deutschland für ein Jahr gelebt und weiß jetzt Brasilien wieder viel mehr zu schätzen als vorher. Hier gäbe es ja auch Winter. Aber 10 Monate lang, was soll das denn für ein Wetter sein in Deutschland und am Ende muss man hoffen, das der Sommer auf ein Wochenende fällt...Read more
