      Parenthèse de la parenthèse (Prague)

      Day 135: Prague Old Town

      May 24 in Czech Republic ⋅ ☁️ 64 °F

Despite weather forecasts for severe thunderstorms and “take shelter immediately”, we had a lovely day in Old town Prague.

We first visited the Astronomical Clock which was built in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world. It’s still in operation. We arrived at the top of the hour and enjoyed the little character show and bells. The Church of Our Lady before Týn and surrounding buildings around Old town Prague mixes gothic architecture with rainbow pastel; we really digged that vibe.

Crossed the Charles Bridge bridge and Vltava river and saw a weird beaver like river animal; it could have been a rat. After seeing the Prague Castle, we visited the oldest tavern in Prague which opened in 1375. The severs were gruff and created a medieval like atmosphere by insulting us and getting us to drink more dark beer. The pub was in the basement and lit with candles so we felt the 14th century atmosphere.

      Restaurant:
      Zrno Zrnko Coffee Place
      Medieval Tavern "U Krále Brabantského"
      Restaurant Na Brezance

      Food:
      Baked Camberete
      Goulash with Dumplings
      Beef Tartare
      Gnocchi

      Spots:
      Prague Astronomical Clock
Church of Our Lady before Týn

      Prague Day 2 - Vysegrad

      June 27, 2023 in Czech Republic ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We had delicious lunch and then In the afternoon, I took another VoiceMap tour - of the medieval defense city called Vyšehrad, or high city. There was a beautiful cathedral, defense walls and a cemetery where famous Czech composers Dvorak and Smetana are buried. I also took a guided tour of casemats, which are the underground spaces between the defense walls. I then took another VoiceMap tour (lol), this time of Prague ghosts and scary stories. I also spent some more time at the Old Town Square, where there is a monument to Jan Goose, who was fighting for religious equality and against corruption - for example, he insisted that poor people were also allowed to drink wine (symbolizing Christ blood) at the Mass, which was previously the privilege reserved only for the rich.Read more

      Prague — Special Guest Stars

      April 9 in Czech Republic ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

I’m a lucky guy. This trip of a lifetime just reached another level of awesomeness. I met up with Sarah, Matt, Claire & Emmett this afternoon in Prague. They were coming from Budapest, and we will spend a couple of days together before they head to Berlin and I return to England. Today was fun from start to finish. They are seasoned travelers — kids included — and were able to do a really quick check in at their hotel (what Matt referred to as the ‘Czech in’) and we were off to explore Prague together beginning happily with the obligatory dad joke. Today we just wandered and took it all in. We stopped for a snack in the main square and then later for dinner at a cool pub that Matt found in his guide book. We watched the Parade of Apostles at the Astronomical Clock in the main square and walked the Charles Bridge to the other side of the Vltava River. They seem to have a very similar way of traveling as I do, and that made the whole evening just so relaxed and easy. Tomorrow we’ll meet up after breakfast to head to Prague Castle. On the walk back to my apartment, I just kept thinking how lucky I am to be able to spend this time with the Guineys and to be able to share these two days together in such an amazing place. You might even say I need to ‘Czech my privilege’ (woke dad joke).Read more

      HRC Praag

      Nacho's it is! 🌮😎
Lekker een alcoholische versnapering erbij. Lekkerrrr... 🍺🍹
