    Traveled from Victoria Falls to Chobe National Park in Botswana (more stamps for my passport) had a game drive in the AM and saw hippos, baboons, impala (of course) and lots of elephants.     Planet Baobab

    Kaziikini Schutzgebiet Safari-Abenteuer

    Alle haben die Nacht überlebt. Die 5 Liter Klo-Lösung wurde tatsächlich benutzt. Nein, nicht von mir.

    Auf den offenen Safari-Fahrzeugen von gestern - mit Driver Robbie - ruckeln wir uns durch die Wildnis.
    Ich sitze neben Lara - aus der Ukraine. Lara ist seit 21 Jahren in Deutschland und eine Lady. Immer sieht sie aus, wie gepellt aus Ei - auch wenn Strom iest weg oder aus ist Wasser. Kleid, Strohhut und eine große Fürsorge, welche sich auch auf uns alle erstreckt, sind ihr Markenzeichen. Ihr Gatte Roland wird deutlich strenger abgewatscht.

    Hinter mir sitzen Steffie, Guide Stephan und Claudia. Pirschfahrt? Leise? Ja - möglich wäre das schon, aber warum? Nicht nur Stephan bluten die Ohren von dem Geschnatter und wir wissen jetzt alles - alles! Nebenbei stelle ich Steffie in einer Nasenbluten-Gesprächspause ihre Kamera ein. Das Nasenbluten kommt von der extrem trockenen Luft - nicht von einer manuellen Anwendung.

    Trotz unserer Laustärke treffen wir auf Warzenschweine, Elefanten - im lebenden und im toten Zustand, DikDik's, Geier, Marabus, Adler und Löwen. Das weibliche Löwinnen Trio war erfolgreich bei der Jagd - muss jetzt aber die Kadaver gegen die Aßfresser verteidigen - schon wegen des im Busch verstecken Löwen-Baby Quartetts. Niedlich trifft es nicht im Ansatz.    Read more

    Santawani Consession Botswana day 2

    We have 3 safari drives left. One today at 4:30 & 2 tomorrow. We have seen just about every notable big game animals to see. Our last one that has eluded us, until today, was the hyena. While on the drive, off to the left, about 100 meters, one of our fellow guests spotted movement in the brush. A hyena!

    Our game guide /driver sped off across the land in hot pursuit. (while in a “Park” they are not allowed to stray off the approved roads). Since this area is leased from the local villagers, it is considered a concession and the rules don’t prohibit driving off a road.

    We began following the hyena and came across a clan. See the pics.

    The prize video of, maybe the whole safari, is of the 2 zebras fighting. One clearly was the aggressor and the other wasn’t as driven to keep the fight going. We were off 100+ meters so we couldn’t hear their fighting noises. Nonetheless, it shows a glimpse into the harsh life of wild animals in their native lands.    Read more

    Leopard; our last African Big 5

    Lion, elephant, rhino, hippo, and finally today; we saw the leopard. The big 5, in part because these great animals are known for being dangerous and unpredictable. Also impressive. The one pic of drag marks was that of a different leopard, today, that had made a kill and dragged his bounty up a tree. He had already left.

    The pics of the jackals is another story. We set out on each safari in 2 Toyota land cruiser/jeeps set up w 3 ascending bench seats. Anyway, the other jeep was ahead of us and spotted a pack of jackals. They were all standing, howling and facing in the same direction. Normally they are skittish and run at the sight of us. However this time they did not change their stance, look at us nor run. The other jeeps driver knew they were giving the alarm of danger. Hmmnnn, what could that be? Only a big cat. This park has lions and leopards. You can hear the souls of the jackals giving their signature danger-bark in one video.

    Their driver veered off his course and drove in the direction the jackals were facing. He immediately found the lounging leopard in the nearby tree. One may wonder why the jackals just don’t run. (Because the leopard will prey on them). They don’t for at least 2 reasons. This is one of nature’s immense built in warning methods to other animals of imminent danger. Also they are one of the cleanup crew once the big cat finishes eating and they then compete with the hyenas. This is also an undeniable testimony to an amazing God of all creation! PTL.

    Evening sky pics are another story. With this amazing company named Wilderness (more on them later), they do a “morning high tea” on every morning safari. And an afternoon “sun downer” with every afternoon safari. You can see here, we are enjoying a tail gater sun downer. And these sky pics were the evening show we got to enjoy while enjoying a G & T on the plains.    Read more

    Elephant Sand Lodge

    Nördlich von Nata liegt die Elephant Sand Lodge, die direkt um ein Wasserloch herum gebaut ist. Nach 21.00 Uhr darf man nicht mehr auf dem Gelände herumlaufen.
    Unsere Zelte stehen auch in der Nähe der Laufwege.Read more

    Chobe NP

    Durch das Sedudu Gate geht es am Morgen bereits um 5:30 Uhr in den Chobe NP. Der Park wurde 1967 als erster NP in Botswana gegründet und umfasst eine Fläche von 10.600 km². Wir erleben ein unbeschreibliches Zusammenspiel aus Licht, Farbe und Landschaft. Im Chobe sind fast alle afrikanischen Tiere heimisch, lediglich die Nashörner fehlen. Da der Park nicht durch Zäune begrenzt ist, lassen sich gerade diese Tiere nicht vor Wilderern schützen.
    Endlich bekommen wir auch den „König der Tiere“ zum Fotografieren vor die Linse. Es sind zwei ältere Herren, die einfach nur faul herumliegen.
    Kurz entschlossen gehen wir am Nachmittag doch noch auf einen Game Drive. Vom Chobe River aus hat man einen anderen Blick auf diese Vielzahl der Tiere und wir genießen den Sonnenuntergang auf dem Fluss.
    Da Kasane von allen Seiten gut zu erreichen ist, noch dazu auf asphaltierter Straße, bleibt es nicht aus, dass außer uns noch viele andere Boote unterwegs sind.    Read more

    Baobabs

    Longue route pour nous rendre à Gweta, au camping Planet Baobab. Comme le nom le suggère, il y a plein de Baobabs. Et des scorpions aussi. Nous y sommes pour 2 jours. La piscine est extra bienvenue! Et nous avons la chance de rencontrer une sympathique famille québécoise qui voyage aussi avec 2 filles pour l’année. Super rencontre, les filles sont très contentes!

    Le premier jour, nous visitons le village de Gweta avec la guide, nous en apprenons plus sur la façon de fonctionner du village, les écoles, la justice, etc. Et nous mangeons un repas traditionnel dans un cattle post (un campement pour le bétail). Nous goûtons au fameux pap qui est la base de l’alimentation. C’est une bouillie de maïs, un peu comme la polenta. C’est très bien.

    Le lendemain, lever aux aurores pour aller voir les suricates. La route est vraiment longue mais c’est intéressant de voir ces petites bêtes toujours en mouvement. Et on visite un peu une des plus grande Salt pan du monde.

    Ce qui est frappant, c’est à quel point tout est sec. Les arbres ont l’air mort partout, mais c’est comme l’hiver chez nous, tout reverdira avec les pluies. Et on apprend que le baobab n’est pas vraiment un arbre mais une plante!    Read more

    De lions et de léopards

    Départ aux aurores pour une autre balade dans le parc national Chobe. Et c’est l’apothéose: nous voyons 5 lionnes et un gros mâle, magnifique! Et comble de chance, nous voyons un léopard qui se prélasse dans un arbre, comme dans les films! Que dire de plus: nous voilà comblés!
