    Made it to Turkey

    Basically spent the main part of the day packing and travelling. Whilst at the airport waiting to board we received a phone call from our accom in Antalya- yesterday’s destination- saying they have over booked and we no longer have accommodation!!
    Vee to the rescue, after telling them to watch their review page, was onto it and found a great place, a little more expensive, in a great location. After arriving we were whisked off to a hammam to be steamed, cleaned, scrubbed and massaged. All in all a good day.    Read more

    J103/J104 - Lenteurs à Antalya

    C’est donc au sein d’Antalya que 5 vaillants cyclistes prendront repos. La première journée voit cette volonté de flâner poussée à son paroxysme. Le réveil est tardif et on traîne la majeure partie de la journée dans notre bel airbnb, situé en plein centre. Il faut dire que les 37 degrés indiqués par le mercure ont tendance à nous clouer au canapé plutôt que de gambader en ville, tout comme les journées sportives qui ont précédé.

    En fin d’aprem, certains font la traditionnelle virée au décathlon, d’autres se baladent dans le centre. Eliott se fait une nouvelle coupe, je fais des petits achats nécessaires, puis on découvre l’ambiance de la ville.

    Antalya est une grande ville dont le centre est perché sur une longue falaise, ce qui est assez particulier et lui donne un certain charme. De plus tout le long de la côte est aménagé avec des espaces verts, des parcs sportifs, et une piste cyclable dont on a profité. Il a l’air d’y faire bon vivre. Le centre historique est une sorte de grand et joli bazar à peine entaché par l’insistance des vendeurs. La ville est quand même très touristique et ça se sent.

    Le lendemain on se bouge un peu plus et on se balade tous les 5 à travers la ville. Après avoir bien déjeuner on se perd dans un grand shopping ou chacun y va de son petit achat (vetements, electronique, livres). On finit la journée en allant à la marina, où on se baigne et saute sous les yeux des passants. Le coucher de soleil est magnifique.

    J102 - En route pour Antalya

    Debout à 8h, le soleil chauffe déjà très fort : la journée s'annonce chaude. Antalya est à 65 km, nous les parcourons en une matinée.

    La route est jolie. À notre gauche, les monts Taurus dominent la vue avec des sommets à plus de 2300 m. Nous entrons dans Antalya grâce à une superbe piste cyclable qui longe la plage. On traverse des espaces verts bondés de gens en train de pique-niquer. On fait de même avant de rejoindre notre Airbnb.

    Le logement est situé en plein centre de la vieille ville. Nichée sur une falaise à 30 m au-dessus de la mer, la cité est très jolie avec ses ruelles pavées sa porte romaine etc. Nous irons visiter tout ça dans les prochains jours, car nous prenons trois jours de pause.    Read more

    Quick explore in Antalya for my layover

    Our flight to Krakow had a layover in Antalya from 12am to 7am so I had enough time for a quick look around. Spencer decided he wanted to keep a couple extra schengen days so he and ozge were staying which meant they hired a car and we could drive around. Antalya seems like a super wicked spot! It has big mountain ranges and it's on the coast so you can go for a swim at the beach and then go skiing in the same day. We went to a waterfall first, it was huge and super ferocious and lit with a huge spotlight and decorated with hundreds of flickering fairy lights which looked so cool in the waterfall mist. There were some really nice stray dogs at the waterfall that I got to play with for a bit too. Next we went and checked out the touristy old town area of antalya which was next to the ocean and surrounded by an ancient fortress wall made in the 2nd century. I think the bay in the old town mustve been a popular old port for pirates back in the day because a lot of the tour boats in the port were pirate themed. There were lots of pubs in the old town and people were cheering, singing and stumbling around the street all drunk which gave the place a nice pirate vibe, like Tortuga from pirates of the Caribbean. The water was super clear, I could see the bottom of the ocean perfectly. I can only imagine how great the scene would've looked during the day with the crystal clear water, the old style wooden pirate boats and the ancient port fortress, the idea of seeing that almost made me stay. Lastly we got some beers and had a quick drink at another beach. It was next to a long Scarborough type foreshore with loads of restaurants and public basketball courts n stuff. It would be a cool place to hang during the day I'm sure.
    The taste I got of antalya was awesome and apparently the coast is littered with shipwrecks and fallen planes you can snorkel. I can't wait to go back!

    Got to krakow, had an awesome burrata pasta and a focaccia and then had a 16 hour sleep!

    We also hung out with the Turkish dudes from dinner again during the day before we left kayseri. We went to a gaming place to play ps4 and a Turkish rummikub place where they provide the rummikub set and then just sell you cordial. Idk how they make a living from that but it was cool.     Die ewigen Feuer

    Auf dem Weg nach Kas sichteten wir drei Backpacker mit hochgeschrecktem Daumen am Strassenrand. 👍 Die drei Türken freuten sich über ihre erste Fahrt in einem Wohnmobil und fuhren eine Stunde mit uns mit, über die wohl schönsten Küstenstrassen des Landes.
    Da erfuhren wir, dass sie drei Künstler sind und im Land herum reisen. Wir hörten uns ihr Lieblingslied eines türkischen Sängers an und unterhielten uns auf englisch über dieses und jenes.
    In Kas luden wir sie wieder auf der Hauptstrasse ab und sahen uns das verschlafene Städtchen an.
    Nach einer letzten Nacht am Meer, fuhren wir zu den ewigen Feuern von Chimaera. 🔥 Bei schweisstreibenden Temperaturen liefen wir den steilen Berg hoch und dort brannten sie, wie sie es schon seit Jahrtausenden tun: Die ewigen Flammen.
    Durch kleine Felsspalten lodern etwa 30 cm hohe Flammen, angefacht aus Gas, welches aus dem Gestein austritt.
    Angeblich sollen sich früher sogar Seefahrer an den Flammen orientiert haben. 🧭
    Das gesamte Felsplateau roch nach „Feuerzeug“ und wir sahen uns das schöne Naturschauspiel an.
    Lange hielten wir es wegen der Hitze nicht aus und so fuhren wir in die Touristenhochburg Antalya.
    Wir fanden einen riesigen Parkplatz, geführt von einem herzlichen älteren Herrn, der uns zur Begrüssung gleich (uns unbekannte) Nüsse geschenkt hat. Philipp warf sich gleich eine Handvoll ein, bis ihm der Herr mit grossen Augen sagte, dass er die zuerst noch schälen müsse. 😂
    Wir sahen uns Antalya an und wurden wie so oft für Russen gehalten. Wir tranken ein Bier in einem Park, gingen Falafel essen und spazierten die weite Strecke zurück nach Hause, wo uns eine heisse Nacht erwartete. 🔥

    PS: Die Geschwindigkeitstafeln verstehen wir immer noch nicht so recht, deswegen liebe Eltern: Der Brief von der türkischen Polizei könnt ihr uns gerne per WhatsApp weitersenden. 😆📸    Read more

    Antalya ist einfach großartig. Das Treiben, shoppen, die Märkte, die wunderschöne Altstadt Kaleiçi. Nach so viel Trubel genoss ich es, beim Mosaikworkshop wieder etwas runterzufahren. Abends wurde ich noch ordentlich bei Yeni Hamam sauber geschrubbt.Read more

    Today I had a half day to myself to acclimatize, which consisted of checking out the old town and eating and drinking at several different places.

    Mum and dad arrived from East Midlands Airport at 17:00 and then we went out for an early dinner, so early, the cook was still at home eating after his Ramazan fast, but the waiter was able to warm us up lentil soup and vine leaves - Mercimek Çorbasi, Sarma, and menemen (scrambled eggs) for mum.
