      Roque-Gageac und Domme 🌾

      September 29, 2022 in France ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

      September 18, 2022 in France ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

      Mysty Dordogne

      September 19, 2022 in France ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Meine angeborene Neugier lässt mich stets mal wieder was Neues ausprobieren.

Carsac-Aillac - beautiful spot to stop

      June 22, 2023 in France ⋅ 🌧 21 °C

It certainly is easier to drive in rural areas. The roads are winding but ever so pretty. We arrived at our home for the next two days at Carsac-Aillac in the Dordogne region. We Eurocamped in this area with the boys in 1989 and loved it and did want to revisit. Carsac-Aillac is new to us - it is small and pretty and we are staying with interesting "Ian and Gladi" who are Americans who decided to leave the US - California, firstly because it is so hot and secondly because Trump got voted in. Clearly, I like him! It was also interesting to hear him say that Macaron opened avenues for Americans to live in Frace - making it easier - as long as they are making money and paying taxes! It is a gorgeous spot with green hills, and old castles in the background and it is so quiet here after young and vibrant Bordeaux! We did jump in the infinity pool - our first chance - a little cold but we enjoyed that and the walk around the village afterwards. We also had a lovely walk around the local town and enjoyed a delicious meal cooked by our host - dining outside with the beautiful views. It is so restful and quiet here - we love it.Read more

      Von Sarlat bis Bergerac

      September 9, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Read more

      Last night at domaine Lacoste

      June 23, 2023 in France ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

We had our last night in beautiful car Zac staying at an excellent Booking.com com called Domaine Lacoste. We have really enjoyed getting to know the owners Ian and Gladys who are from the US and really giving this lifestyle change a go. He is an excellent chef and that is why we chose to eat at the restaurant attached to their house two nights in a row. Craig had veal and I had the duck and both were delicious. After dinner we went for a Great walk on the Former train track and along the way we really enjoyed discovering the locals all playing bocce on a Friday evening. We saw that the community has many facilities for various age groups including a skate park and play area for little kids and we found Carsac-Aillac’s eX train station. What a truly lovely stop this has been maybe our favourite so far and remember I’m Italian. The last two nights we have also enjoyed watching the penultimate episode of Ted Lasso. We are both feeling very sad that it will finish for us soon.Read more

      Sarlat-Eyrignac loop

      May 13, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Off we set on the bikes to Sarlat for the Saturday market. Last time here 30 years ago when Erin was 4 weeks old and the boys both had chickenpox. Don't remember much from then, but the market today was HUGE. It took over the whole medieval centre but was busting at the seams with Americans. We had pencilled in lunch but downgraded to a coffee, with lunch purchased from a nice Frenchman in a bakery who persuaded us into a quiche and a prune tarte.
Uphill all the way to the gardens, and trying not to use power assist in case we needed it later so progress was slow, but we got there in the end. Picnic lunch on a bench overlooking the valley we had just climbed up from. Then we toured the splendid gardens, which we agreed were well worth a visit. Top topiary skills.
After a coffee, spin back down country lanes through lovely villages to the bike path and home. Great day out (apart from the noisy Americans)

      Lascaux cave paintings

      May 12, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Off pitch early as we had a timed entry to the Lascaux cave paintings. Just as well Ian booked as there were no spaces left when we got there and they were turning folk away. Very modern, so very French. Excellent guide, headphones , tablets with translations, mock up of caves, movies, the lot. The cave paintings date back 20,000 years, and were discovered in 1940 by a dog called Hobo...
      Go Hobo.
Then a drive down through Sarlat to our next stop, and our first stop by the Dordogne this trip. Lapped the campsite a few times trying to choose a pitch that we wouldnt get stuck on like before, but not confident....and its raining again...

      Dordogne doddling

      May 14, 2023 in France ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Weather finally on the up. Set off on the bikes after breakfast with a dual mission today. A chateau and some gardens, about 10 miles away. Both involved a stiff climb to even get to the ticket office which maybe explains the welcome lack of loud Americans who seemed to have taken over Sarlat. The chateau was at Castlenaud , and was brilliantly restored with lots of information everywhere. We did a lot of climbing up and down keeps and towers and it is was a wee bit " health and safety" in places, but well worth the slog up from the river.
The gardens at Marquaysacc were only a couple of miles away from the chateau , but also a stiff climb up from the river. The whole area is filled with topiary box hedges, hand clipped by the gardeners. We thought they must get a bit bored....
Some very flashy peacocks showing off, and also scavenging at the cafe tables which was novel.
There was a 2k walk to a marvelous viewpoint overlooking the Dordogne, with canoes and boats serenely drifting by, and the village of la Roque-Gageac far below ( another of those "most beautiful villages in France" )
A slow and slightly weary pedal home past drifts of meadow sage and glorious red poppies in the roadside verges.
Beers in the sun by the van perked us up again.

Domme Dordogne France Tue 3 Oct 2023

      October 3, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

After the cave tour Yvonne and I had coffee. We returned to the car using a different gate through the town wall passing cyclamen growing wild while walking outside the town wall. We arrived at the car around 5.15pm and drove to our accommodation at Cottage du Capiol en Perigord, Le Capiol, Cenac-et-Saint-Julien in the French Dordogne region and arrived around 6pm. The cottage was a three story semi with a different design and age to the attached buildings on either side. The ground floor had a bedroom which Karen and Richard used. The first floor had the living area. The attic is where Yvonne and I slept. Each floor was connected by steep curving staircases. At 7pm walked into Cenac-et-Saint-Julien to purchase dinner. Unfortunately the town did not have a supermarket or general store. However the patisserie sold us quiche and pastries which Yvonne and I had for dinner while Richard and Karen drove to another town to find a restaurant that was open for their meal.Read more
