      Von La Flèche nach Pornic

      May 28, 2019 in France ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Read more

      Pornic :)

      August 14, 2016 in France ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

As sad as it is to leave Guer and Brittany behind it is time to move. This time into heart of France. On our way to Liglet we had a couple of stops. First was the little port town of Pornic. The name Pornic has a naughty meaning in slovene, so yeah, we had to stop😉 It was quite lovely actually (the weather helped) so we had a stroll around and a cup of cafe there before moving onward to Nantes. ⛵Read more

      La Bernerie-en-Retz und Pornic

      May 29, 2019 in France ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Um 8Uhr zur Boulangerie, dann Frühstück. Wetter-Vorhersage 16°C, windig. So lecker! Read more

Day 9 - Nantes to Pornic, 52 miles

      April 24, 2016 in France ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

After last night's festivities it was a bit of a slow start with plenty of coffee with breakfast. It was also time to say goodbye to the German as he carried on his 6 month adventure by heading North. Today's ride took me along the last stretch of the Loire a Velo before it joined the Atlantic Highway EuroVelo 1 route that actually runs from Norway to Portugal (maybe next year's trip!). After leaving Nantes and crossing the Loire via the ferry at Coueron it was a flat ride to the Atlantic at Saint-Brevin-Les-Pins. It might have been flat but my nemesis 'the head wind' was back and an open 12 mile dead straight stretch along a canal became pretty boring pretty quick.

After eventually reaching the coast after what seemed like a whole day riding but in reality was only a couple of hours it was time to head south to Pornic following the Atlantic Highway cycle route that would meanander from beach town to beach town through pine forests and camp sites. Have to admit was good to get to the coast and mix the riding up.

After a good days ride even with the hangover and headwind I arrived into Pornic for the evening which is a stunning little harbour town with a real French riveria feel to it with expensive houses and a small marina.

The day however wasn't without its problems and a nasty little niggle in my knee got worse as the day went on and despite feeling good and wanting to ride all day every day I may need to listen to my body on this one and take a day or two off the bike especially with 9 weeks still to go. Very frustrating.

With ice on the knee and a belly full of pizza and a very nice rose wine (I know!) it was time for bed.

      Pornic

      July 4, 2017 in France ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

We arrived in Pornic yesterday lunchtime and headed towards A6west the berth that we had been allocated when I we called earlier. Thank goodness a kind French lady helped us, there wasn't much wind so we thought we could reverse in, but wind caught the bow and we started to spin. Usually not too big a problem but boats on this Ponton are expensive see photos. But after a bit of pulling and pushing and putting finger pontoon under strain we were in. After lunch we checked in and then wandered into town beautiful though perhaps a little busier than we are used to but it is now the French holidays. Today we prepared a packed lunch and took kayaks along the coast the way we had come as saw some cute little bays yesterday and a serene looking cafe. White brollies blue deckchairs tiled roof. Nice easy paddle quick dip for me and then ice-cream on the return. This eve we went to night market and I bought a torteau fromage looked good will try tomorrow, it was 30degs at 19:30 hottest part of day. Sstill hoping to do a bit of anchoring so might be few days till next post, keep warm.Read more

      July 7, 2017 in France ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

      Pornic ➡️ 56 km ↗️ 313 m

      September 20, 2023 in France ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

      Cumul EV1: 470 km, Total 496 km

(Batshit crazy head-winds before the storm.)

Bakery is closed on Wednesday and we head grumpily towards Corsept where the baker serves us coffee to go. We have chat with a fellow cyclist, all of us seating on the planters in front of the bakery.
As we get closer to St Nazaire, the ship building sites respond to the family owned “carrelets”, the fishing cabins perched upon the banks and that will from now on accompany us till the Garonne Estuary.
As we reach the Estuary of the Loire, the monumental installation from artist Huang Yong Ping greets us. We turn our back to the industrial city and reach St Brévin where the mood is definitely one of a bathing place. Houses wear silly names referring to the ocean or to retirement.. The back streets are more pleasant, with mature tiny garden, graphical pines, cedars, cypresses. And the thick smell of chalef..
The wind is in our face and as we cycle round the Pointe St Gildas, it veers with us… Pornic and its turquoise water is close by now, and we see the Ile of Noirmoutier on our right.
The campground is closing in a couple of days and we enjoy the pool by ourselves, its exciting tunnel slides -some in total darkness, some connecting to hidden pools- and get to place the tente right above the seafront.
But the water is not turquoise, more of a lead colour, and wind is not softening.
Dinner in Pornic where we hear the weather is unexpectedly worsening rapidly and will hit hard between 11pm and 2am..
We cover the 4km back on the Corniche, with heavy rainfalls, cautious traffic and wind blasts that brutally catch our bikes sideways. The night is tense, the tent just holds, with the deafening sound of wind, rain and waves…

      Pornic ➡️ 17 km ↗️ 178 m

      September 21, 2023 in France ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

We deserve a day off… : laundry, lubricating the bikes after all the rain we’ve had (mostly at night fortunately), catching up on that journal.
We indulge in a warm lunch, at a cozy trendy comfy lounge with waiters wearing white aprons and bowtie.
In contrast our dinner consists of burned pizza and decent rosé served in a pitcher of Pastis at the campground. The weather forecast is a puzzle and we prefer to stay at the base.
