Blinman Mine & The Great Wall of China

After a lunch stop in Blinman we continued to the old Blinman Copper Mine. Unfortunately it was closed for the summer but still good enough to walk around a bit. From there we headed slowly back to the Rawnsley Ranger Station but not without stopping at the Great Wall of China and some other great viewpoints.

Weiter ging es zum Mittagessen in den Blinman Pub. Ein typisches Outback Dorf, fernab von allem und mit 610m über NN auch der höchst gelegene Ort in South Australia. Neben 26 Einwohnern dem Pub und einer alten Kupfermine gibt es hier auch nichts zu sehen, weshalb es langsam wieder zurück ging. Auf dem Weg haben wir noch an der "Wall of China" und ein paar anderen Aussichtspunkten gehalten. Es war ein ziemlich cooler Trip durch die Flinders Ranges!Read more

Morialta & Wildlife Park

And again back in the Morialta Conservation Park because there is probably no better place to show Celine Koalas in the wild. This time we saw 9! And because feeding a kangaroo is always a good idea we continued in the Mount Lofty Wildlife Park.

Und zurück im Morialta Conservation Park denn es gibt wohl kaum einen besseren Ort um Celine Koalas in der freien Wildbahn zu zeigen. Dieses Mal haben wir 9 gesehen!
Danach ging es weiter im den Mount Lofty Wildlife Park denn jemand liebt es Kängurus zu füttern...Read more

Barossa Valley

We started our Roadtrip with a drive through the Barossa Valley, a famous wine Region in South Australia. There are so many great wineries here that it was really hard to choose which ones to visit.
We decided to stop at the Jacobs Creek winery where we enjoyed a Coffee and a glass of wine in their garden and later we had an awesome wine tasting at Chateau Tanunda. Even Celine enjoyed their wine and we ended up buying a few bottles to take with us im our Trip.

Wir haben heute unseren Roadtrip mit einer Fahrt durch das Barossa Valley, einer bekannten Weinregion in South Australia, begonnen. Es war gar nicht so einfach sich zu entscheiden bei welchen Weingütern man anhalten soll, da sie alle recht einladend aussahen. Am Ende haben wir uns for die Jacobs Creek Winery und das Chateau Tanunda entschieden. Das erste Weingut weil wir dort im Garten unseren Kaffee und Wein in der Sonne genießen konnten und das zweite weil das Gebäude von weitem wirklich beeindruckend aussah. Im Chateau haben wir dann auch eine Weinprobe gemacht und da der Wein uns so gut geschmeckt hat, mussten wir auch direkt noch ein paar Flaschen mitnehmen.Read more

Naracoorte Caves

In our way to Mt Gambier we stopped to explore some of the Naracoorte Caves. Unfortunately we were already too late for most of the tours and didn’t have enough time to join the late afternoon Tour to see the bats, so we opted for a self guided tour through the Stick Tomato Cave (funny name isn't it?).
We learned a lot about the limestone caves and sinkholes that are found everywhere in the area and how they are formed.

Auf dem Weg nach Mt Gambier haben wir einen Zwischenstopp in Naracoorte eingelegt um uns die Höhlen hier anzusehen. Leider hatten wir nicht genug Zeit um eine der geführten Touren mitzumachen, also haben wir stattdessen die Stick Tomato Höhle auf eigene Faust entdeckt. Es war auf jeden Fall sehr interessant zu sehen.Read more

Snorkelling the Kilsby Sinkhole

Today we went snorkelling in the Kilsby Sinkhole which is on a private Farm Land and therefore only accessible with a snorkel or dive Tour. The sinkhole is famous for its clear water and incredible visibility of 50-60m. So we geared up and jumped into the ice cold water to see it for ourselves. Well worth it even though we didn’t find the turtle That’s supposed to live in there.

Heute sind wir im Kilsby Sinkhole schnorcheln gegangen. Die Gegend hier um Mt Gambier ist voller solcher Löcher. Einige davon sind öffentlich zugänglich, andere dürfen gar nicht betreten werden und manche, so wie das Kilsby Sinkhole, dürfen nur mit einer Tour betreten werden. Mit dickem Neoprenanzug, Haube und Handschuhen sind wir also schließlich in da Eiskalte Wasser gesprungen um uns selber von dessen Klarheit zu überzeugen. 50-60m Sicht soll man hier haben. Schwer abzuschätzen wenn unter einem nichts außer Wasser und einer nie enden wollenden Steinwand ist. Die Schildkröte die das Sinkhole ihr zu Hause nennt, haben wir leider nickt gesehen, aber wir hatten trotzdem viel Spaß.Read more

Umpherston Sinkhole

The area around Mt Gambier is home to 95% of all sinkholes in Australia. The coast consists of dominantly soft limestone and millions of years ago the entire area was under water. Over time the oceans currents formed large caves. Some of them collapsed and the sinkholes were born. With that many of them around people had to get creative and in the process beautiful cave gardens were build. Other sinkholes are filled with water and are used either as swimming holes or as water source on private farm land.

Die Gegend um Mt Gambier besteht überwiegend aus Kalkstein und war vor Tausenden von Jahren unterhalb des Meeresspiegels. Dadurch sind Aushöhlungen entstanden, die wir heutzutage als Höhlen oder Sinklöcher bestaunen können. Hier in Mt Gambier befinden sich 95% aller Kalksteinhöhlen Australiens. Mit so vielen Löchern in der Erde mussten sich die Bewohner natürlich was einfallen lassen um sie auch zu nutzen. So wurden einige zu wundervollen Gärten.Read more

Pickering Point Lookout

The weather forecast for today didn’t look too good so we decided to spend most of the day at the Deep Blue Hot Springs. On the way we used a short break from the rain to stop at the Pickering Point Lookout and go for a short walk. It’s a truly beautiful coastline with rough edges and big waves.

Die Wettervorhersage für heute sah eher düster aus, weshalb wir beschlossen den Großteil des Tages in den Deep Blue Hot Springs zu verbringen. Auf dem Weg dorthin nutzen wir eine kurze Regenpause für einen kleinen Spaziergang am Pickering Point Lookout. Zumindest haben wir ein paar große Wellen gesehen!Read more

Great Ocean Road

Back driving the Great Ocean Road for the third time. This time the weather was rainy and windy and the waves were rough and high. Love watching the waves crash into the cliffs slowly forming this ever changing coastline. We stopped at every viewpoint, went for a view short walks and took hundreds of photos.

Great Ocean Road auf ein neues! Für mich ist es das dritte Mal, dass ich diesen Küstenabschnitt entlang fahre, für Celine ist es natürlich das erste Mal. Das Wetter war kalt, nass und windig, aber davon haben wir uns nicht abschrecken lassen. Bei jedem Aussichtspunkt haben wir angehalten, den Wellen dabei zugesehen wie sie an den Klippen brachen und somit diese beeindruckende Küste formen und folgten jedem Weg der uns zu immer schöneren Orten führte. Und ab und zu kam dann auch mal die Sonne raus.Read more

Beauchamp Falls

In the early afternoon we reached our campsite for the night, right at the entrance to the Beauchchamp Fall walk in the beautiful Otway Nationalpark. Time to start exploring the area!

Am frühen Nachmittag erreichten wir schon unsere Campsite für die Nacht, direkt am Start des Beauchamp Fall Wanderweges gelegen. Es war also Zeit diesen Teil des wunderschönen Otway Nationalparks zu erkunden!Read more

Triple Falls

The next morning we went on another waterfall hike, this time to the beautiful Triple Falls. We followed the path through green rainforest and over slow flowing streams to the first lookout. This one was a little disappointing so we tried to get a better view by following some muddy path down to the riverbed. Not the best decision.
The second look out made up for it though! Absolutely stunning!

Am nächsten Morgen machten wir uns auf zu einem weiteren Wasserfall, den Triple Falls. Wieder ging es durch den grünen Regenwald und über kleine Bachläufe hin zum ersten Aussichtspunkt. Weil wir den Wasserfall von hier allerdings nicht richtig sehen konnten, beschlossen wir einen schlammigen Pfad hinunter zum Fluss zu folgen. Nicht die beste Entscheidung und mehr gesehen haben wir da unten auch nicht. Dafür war der zweite Aussichtspunkt umso besser. Wirklich schön!Read more

Otway Fly Zipline & Treetop Walk

Is there any better way to experience the rainforest than zipping through it? We don’t think so! That’s why we went on a Zipline tour with Otway Fly. It was a lot of fun and afterwards we also went on the Treetop Walk to have a closer look at these giant trees. A great way to spend a couple of hours in the Otway Nationalpark.

Gibt es einen besseren Weg den Regenwald zu erleben als hoch oben durch ihn hindurch zu sausen? Wir denken wohl eher nicht! Deswegen haben wir eine Zipline Tour mit Otway Fly gebucht und in unserem Ticket war sogar noch der Treetop Walk inkludiert. Das hat uns die Gelegenheit gegeben uns diese riesigen Bäume noch mal in Ruhe aus der Nähe anzusehen.Read more

Lorne - Erskine Falls & Zip Coaster

Another day, another waterfall AND another Zipline.
We had so much fun yesterday we decided we‘ll do something similar again today. So we went to the Erskine Falls near Lorne first and to the Live Wire Park afterwards, where we went on the zip coaster. Not a boring straight line, a coaster with turns and twists! It was so much fun! We would’ve loved to do it again and again and again!

Ein weiterer Tag, ein weiterer Wasserfall und eine weitere Zipline. Aber nicht irgendeine Zipline, ein Zip Coaster. Statt einfach nur geradeaus windet sich der Zip Coaster mit vielen Kurven durch den Wald. Es hat super viel Spaß gemacht, war aber viel zu schnell vorbei. Wir hätten das den ganzen Tag machen können, wenn man uns gelassen hätte. Aber die Trampoline waren anschließend auch ganz lustig.Read more

Ballarat - Sovereign Hill

We travelled back in time to experience the gold rush, see a town grow as more and more people settle there, learn how to make candy the old fashioned way, marvel at beautiful dresses and have a go at bowling. This is all made possible by an open air museum in Ballarat that takes you back to the old days, to the tents of the poorer men trying their luck on the gold fields, to the big gold mine, the houses and shops of the middle class, the big hotels and bars and the entertainment venues. All brought to life by dedicated and passionate people, some still practicing their trades the traditional way.

Heute sind wir in die Zeit des Goldrausches zurück gereist. In Ballarat gibt es ein Freilichtmuseum, das mit vielen liebevollen Details das Leben zu jeder Zeit zeigt. Von den Zelten der Glücksritter, die sich den großen Fund auf den Goldfeldern erhoffen, zu den Behausungen und Geschäften der Mittelklasse, den großen Hotels, der Mine und all den Werkstätten, Bars und Vergnügungsstätten. Wir haben gelernt, wie man Süßigkeiten, Kerzen und Wagenräder herstellt und eine Menge über Gold erfahren.Read more

Grampians - Venus Baths

We are back in my favourite Nationalpark, the Grampians, staying in my favourite Caravan Park, the Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park. We are going to stay for a few days and do some of the amazing hikes in the national park. Today we started with one of the smaller ones, the Venus Baths walk, a short, mostly flat stroll from the town centre of Halls Gap. The shady path follows the stream to a row of shallow basins that are perfect to dip your toes in before you make your way back on the other side of the stream. Perfect for a day that promises to reach temperatures of 36 degrees.

Wir sind zurück in meinem Lieblings Nationalpark, den Grampians, und wir übernachten in meinem Lieblings Caravan Park, dem Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park. Wir planen ein paar Tage zu bleiben und einige der Wanderungen hier zu machen. Heute haben wir mit einer kleinen angefangen. Von Halls Gap aus führt ein schattiger, überwiegend flacher Pfad am Bach entlang hin zu einigen natürlichen Felsbecken, den Venus Baths, die sich perfekt für eine kleine Abkühlung eignen, bevor man dem Pfad auf der anderen Seite des Baches wieder zurück ins Städtchen folgt. Perfekt für einen Tag der noch Temperaturen von bis zu 36 Grad erreichen soll.Read more

MacKenzie & Fish Falls

Today we went to see the MacKenzie Falls. The biggest and most popular falls in the Grampians. A long, steep way leads from the upper lookouts to the bottom of the falls. And from there we followed a little trail further down the river to the Fish Falls. We knew that you were allowed to swim here so we packed our bikinis and towels but by the time we reached the falls we decided it was too cold. We watched two men enjoying their shower under the waterfalls though.

Heute sind wir tief in den Grampians Nationalpark reingefahren um uns die MacKenzie Falls anzuschauen. Furchtbar viele Stufen ging es runter (und später natürlich auch wieder hoch). Einmal unten angekommen führt ein 1,5 km langer Wanderweg noch weiter zu den Fish Falls. Hier darf man in den Wasserfällen auch baden und wir hatten sogar unsere Badesachen dabei, allerdings war es uns ein wenig zu kalt. Also haben wir stattdessen einfach den Ausblick genossen und anderen Leuten beim Schwimmen zugesehen.Read more

Pinnacle Lookout

Today has been our big hiking day, all the way up to the Pinnacle Lookout. There’s a few different trails of varying difficulty up to the lookout. We chose a slightly shorter but still very steep one through the Grand Canyon and the Silent Street. Unfortunately the Grampians have seen a lot of rainfall over the last few months and it’s caused some damage all over the Nationalpark with some lookouts and trails being closed. The staircase at the end of the Grand Canyon is closed as well turning it into a dead end and adding a few hundred metres more to our hike. The views were definitely worth the effort though! Just beautiful!

Heute war unser großer Wandertag. Unser Ziel: Pinnacle Lookout. Hoch oben thront er über Halls Gap und wir haben ihn bezwungen! Mehrere Wege von unterschiedlichen Schwierigkeitsgraden führen hinauf. Wir entschieden uns für einen etwas kürzeren, aber dennoch sehr steilen Weg. Eigentlich führt dieser Weg durch den Grand Canyon und die Silent Street zum Aussichtspunkt, aber die Grampians hatten in den letzten Monaten extrem starke Regenfälle und leider wurde die Treppe am Ende des Grand Canyons beschädigt. Nun ist dieser Teil eine Einbahnstraße. Da wir uns den Canyon trotzdem ansehen wollten, wurde unsere Wanderung dadurch ein klein wenig länger. Der Ausblick war den harten Aufstieg auf jeden Fall Wert!Read more

Kangaroo Island

It is time to explore Kangaroo Island again. It has been over three years now we have been here last. This time we rented a house in Emu Bay and explored the island from there. The house was great with kangaroos, wallabies and even a Koala in the garden. What a great place to be!

Es ist mal wieder Zeit Kangaroo Island zu besuchen. Es ist schon über drei Jahre her das wir das letzte mal dort waren. Dieses Mal haben wir uns ein Haus in der Emu Bay gemietet, mitten in der Natur mit Kängurus, Wallabies und sogar einem Koala auf dem Grundstück. So lässt es sich aushalten!Read more

Seal Bay

Today we are exploring the south coast of the island. First stop is Seal Bay. One of Australia's largest seal colonies is living in that bay. A great place to watch the seals having fun!

Heute fangen wir mit der Südküste von Kangaroo Island an. Erster Stop ist die Seal Bay. Die Bucht ist das Zuhause von einer der größten Seehund Kolonien Australiens und für uns ein super Aussichtspunkt um den Robben beim spielen zu zusehen.Read more

Vivonne Bay & Little Sahara

Vivonne Bay seems to be a big adventure playground. It is one of the most beautiful bays with crystal clear waters, rock pools and white sand beaches all around. We had to stop here for a swim and a bit of stand up paddle boarding. A lot of fun! But also the little sahara, an area with plenty of sand dunes close by we tried our best sandboarding down the hills.

Vivonne Bay ist eine dieser Buchten an denen man nicht einfach nur vorbei fahren kann. Hier muss man anhalten und ins kühle Wasser springen, das Stand Up Paddle Board aufpusten und in eins der vielen Rock Pools hüpfen. Aber nicht nur die Bucht alleine ist einen stop wert sondern auch die "Little Sahara" mit ihren unzähligen Sanddünen, perfekt um nochmal das Sandboarden zu trainieren.Read more

Ein Tag mit Flipper

A day on the ocean playing with flipper, is there any better way to spend your day? A tour with KI Marine Adventures is still one of the best tours we have joined on out whole trip.

Ein Tag mit Flipper im Meer spielen? Es gibt wohl kaum einen besseren Zeitvertreib oder? Es ist das zweite Mal dass wir diese Tour mit KI Marine Adventures machen und es ist und bleibt eine der coolsten Touren die wir je gemacht haben. Ich freue mich schon aufs nächste Mal!Read more

Flinders Chase National Park

The Flinders Chase National Park is home of the Admirals Arch, the Remarkable Rocks and again a lot of seals. It is sich a nice scenery on this side of the island.

Der Flinders Chase Nationalpark gehört auch zum Pflichtprogramm von jedem Besuch auf Kangaroo Island. Wir haben ein paar kurze Spaziergänge zum Admirals Arch und den Remarkable Rocks gemacht.Read more

Entlang der North Coast Road

There are not too many sealed roads on Kangaroo Island but anyway we followed the unsealed North Coast Road. It is still a pretty good road with only some short rough parts where we missed the smooth rides with Balu our old car. The stunning beaches along that way were absolutely worth every meter driving this road!

Es gibt auf Kangaroo Island noch immer nicht wirklich viele asphaltierte Straßen, aber zumindest sind die unasphaltierten Straßen in einem guten Zustand und auch für uns ohne Allrad machbar. Dennoch gab es ein paar Momente wo wir Balus Allrad Antrieb vermisst haben. Aber egal, die Strände entlang der North Coast Road sind es wert über diese Straßen zu fahren!Read more

Tauchen mit Leafy Sea Dragons

Australia has many famous unique animals but this one is not very famous but also unique for Australian Waters: the Leafy Sea Dragons. We hired a guide to show us some of these Sea Dragons because we failed before when we were trying on our own. Amazing to see these creatures 10 meters under the old Rapid Bay Jetty.

Australien hat viele einzigartige Tiere. Heute haben wir endlich ein recht unbekanntes Tier gefunden: Die Leafy Sea Dragons 🐉. Diese Tierchen sind recht schwierig zu finden wenn man nicht weiß wo man suchen muss, weshalb wir uns Hilfe bei einer Tauchschule gesucht haben. In circa 10 Metern Tiefe unter dem alten Pier in der Rapid Bay haben wir sie dann gefunden.Read more

A night out with 60,000 people in the sold out Adelaide Oval to see Ed Sheeran live. It was an absolutely great show from Ed.

Eine Nacht die in Erinnerung bleiben wird: Wir waren bei Ed Sheeran im ausverkauften Adelaide Oval. Es war eine mega Show und hat wirklich Spaß gemacht!Read more
