      Delphi

      Heute waren wir im antiken Delphi. Der Weg dorthin und später weiter nach Lamia hat uns quer durch den Parnass (Gebirgsstock) geführt. Unterwegs konnten wir beobachten wie sich die Vegetation immer mehr verändert, vom bisher bekannten eher trockenen Küstengebiet zu Tannenwälder und später zu Wiesen und Wäldern wie wir sie aus der Heimat kennen.
      In Delphi sind wir etwa 2 Stunden durch die Ruinen gewandert. Spektakulär, wieder einmal. Ich wusste nur vom Orakel von Delphi, dabei ist es so viel mehr. Wen das interessiert, muss wo anders weiter lesen 😋.

      Bugün antik Delphi'deydik. Oraya ve daha sonra Lamia'ya giden yol bizi Parnassus (dağ silsilesi) boyunca götürdü.       Apollo told me to do it

      After yet another buffet breakfast we jumped on our bus and headed to the archaeological site of Delphi, where the oracle of Apollo spoke. It was the site of the omphalos, the 'navel of the world' (center of the world according to Zeus).

      Delphi in the 6th century B.C. was the religious hub and symbol of unity of the ancient Greek world, where the priestesses would huff methane and carbon dioxide expelled from craters in the earth due to volcanic activity. This would cause them to have 'visions' of Apollo and would pass on his guidance to many kings and aristocrats.

      After our history lesson, we hopped back onto the bus for 2-hours before we stopped for lunch and a stretch. Then we got back onto the coach for another 2 hours to arrive in Kalambaka.

      We enjoyed a stroll around the town and some icecream before heading to dinner and an early bed.

      Besichtigung des antiken Delphi

      Heute haben wir nun Gelegenheit zuerst das Museum und später das Gelände des antiken Delphi‘s zu besichtigen.
      Mit einer Führerin sind wir zuerst im Museum unterwegs und erfahren vieles zur Geschichte an diesem Ort. Nachher gehts zu Fuss durchs Gelände welches recht steil am Hang liegt. Die antike Stadt und das Theater liegen aber dicht gefolgt beieinander.
      Der Ort muss überfüllt mit prächtigen Kunstgegenständen gewesen sein, der Überlieferung nach soll alleine ein römischer Kaiser 500 Statuen abtransportiert haben, vieles in Bronze wurde einfach wieder eingeschmolzen. Der Führerin ist es aber gelungen, mit vielen Illustrationen und Beispielen, uns etwas die Fülle des einstigen Glanzes des Ortes aufzuzeigen.

      Ein Blick in die Geschichte:

      Delphi war in der Antike 400 v.Chr. ein bedeutendes religiöses Zentrum. Hier befand sich der berühmte Orakelplatz von Delphi, gewidmet dem Gott Apollo. Die Stätte liegt an den südlichen Hängen des Berges Parnass.

      • Das Orakel von Delphi:
      Es war eines der angesehensten Orakel der klassischen griechischen Welt. Die Priesterin,
      bekannt als die Pythia, sprach ihre Vorhersagen im Trancezustand aus und beantwortete Fragen von Einzelpersonen und Staatsmännern.

      • Tempel des Apollo:
      Das zentrale Heiligtum von Delphi beherbergte den imposanten Tempel des Apollo, in dem das Orakel befragt wurde. Der Tempel stammt aus dem 4. Jahrhundert v. Chr. und ist ein beeindruckendes Beispiel dorischer Architektur.

      • Theater von Delphi:
      Das gut erhaltene Theater bot Platz für etwa 5.000 Zuschauer und wurde für

      Au centre de l’ancien monde

      Après une fin de soirée bien arrosée, un échange peu cordial avec un hollandais, nous partons à 11h la tête dans le guidon.

      Sur la route, nous faisons une pause, le premier café ne faisant pas effet, j’ai du en boire deux autres… et s’enchaîne ensuite une route sublime dans les montagnes au centre de la Grèce. Nous approchons du mont Parnasse, montagne vénérée dans l’antiquité et dédiée à Apollon ainsi qu’aux muses olympiennes, lieu où se situe notre point de chute, Delphes.

      Une fois arrivé, nous nous dirigeons directement vers un restaurant histoire de regagner des points de vie. Malheureusement, pas de chance, c’était une purge… hâte de partir pour enfin découvrir le centre du monde.

      Pour cela, nous nous dirigeons au sanctuaire panhellénique d’Apollon, dieu olympien de la lumière, du savoir et de l’harmonie. Un lieu fort en énergie où nous pouvons y retrouver des vestiges de l’antiquité étonnement bien conservés et une vallée composée d’innombrables couleurs. Ce lieu de vie a été particulièrement habité au deuxième millénaire avant J-C (1500-1100). Appelé le centre du monde car selon la mythologie, c’est à cet endroit que se sont rencontrés les deux aigles lâchés par Zeus, l’un vers l’Est, l’autre vers l’ouest. Nous vivons là encore une journée inoubliable en tentant d’imaginer la vie de cette époque.

      Après en avoir pris plein les mirettes, nous nous dirigeons vers un camping avec une fois de plus une superbe piscine afin de récupérer de la veille. Partie de Ping Pong et sieste au soleil, nous sommes ensuite repartis en ville afin de profiter de la soirée autour d’une bonne moussaka des familles.

      Apollon Tempel Delphi

      Eigentlich wollte ich heute Vormittag allein auf Vogelpirsch gehen, bin dann aber doch noch zum Apollon Tempel abgebogen, den wir gestern nicht mehr besucht hatten. Das gesamte Areal ist ziemlich weitläufig und sehr interessant.Leia mais

      entre Péloponnèse et Thessalie

      Traversée entre le Péloponnèse et la Thessalie. Les paysages sont à couper le souffle, avec des montagnes imposantes et des vallées verdoyantes qui vous donnent envie de vous arrêter à chaque virage pour prendre des photos.
      Bien que le temps de s'y prête pas on ne se gêne pas on en profite!

      Et Delphes
      Delphes, ah, quel endroit fascinant !
      Se promener parmi les ruines du temple d'Apollon ou contempler le fameux omphalos, le "nombril du monde", procure un sentiment d'émerveillement et de respect pour les civilisations passées. Et bien sûr, il y a l'oracle de Delphes, dont les prophéties ont influencé des générations entières.

      Galaxidi and Nafpatkos

      If you’ve never heard of them, don’t worry, neither had we. I always try to have an extra day at each of our stops, so since we had been to the monastery and to Delphi, we had a day to find something to do. The woman at the desk sent us to Galaxidi, about 40 minutes away on the Aegean. It’s a very cute little town with harbor, church on top of the hill, and a nice walk through pine forest out along the coast.

      As we were sitting there soaking it in, Joe looked at the guide book and said, hey, we are about an hour away from the site of the battle of Lepanto! So off we went along the coast to Nafpatkos, where the Spaniards with some help defeated the Turks in the late 1500s. Miguel Cervantes lost his arm in the great naval battle, and there is a statue of him in the harbor.

      What a great decision it was, it’s another very pretty little port town, this one crowned with a 17th century Venetian castle at the top of the hill. We had lunch in the harbor, walked along the beach, explored the castle area, and finished off the day with a coffee at a café looking down over the harbor, one of the prettiest café views anywhere. We didn’t get back to the hotel till almost 8, so since Joe is going to skip his nap, I will be a good sport and skip my exercise.

      Tomorrow we head north for a few hundred kms, to our last stop before Athens. Time is flying!      Leia mais

      In Arachova

      I was not expecting today to be so easy and hassle-free. We had about a 20 minute flight to Athens, picked up the car and were on our way. Google maps offline worked perfectly and we made our way the 200 kms to the monastery of St. Luke (Ossios Loukas), a hermit. When he died in the 10th century, the monastery was built. It is in a gorgeous valley setting (the monks almost always picked beautiful spots to settle). Two churches in the monastic complex, which is still functioning, and the Byzantine moisaics from the 10th and 11th centuries were amazing. Can’t get enough of this ancient architecture! Either Joe is becoming more of a fan or he is just being more patient, because we both were happy to just sit at a lookout and soak in the architectural and natural beauty. No surprise that this is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

      We are in the mountain town of Arachova, overlooking the Delphi Valley. That’s where we’ll head tomorrow!      Leia mais

      The Delphi Museum

      The museum is perched on the slopes of Mount Parnassus

      The centerpiece of the museum is the Charioteer of Delphi. This bronze masterpiece, frozen in time, once adorned a victorious chariot.

      We wandered through rooms adorned with sculptures, each telling tales of gods, heroes, and mortals. The Sphinx of Naxos gazed at us with enigmatic eyes, while the Antinoos statue exuded ethereal beauty. We marveled at the delicate kouros figures, their youthful forms eternally preserved.

      In a dimly lit corner, we encountered the Omphalos, the mythical navel of the world. Carved from stone, it symbolized Delphi’s sacred status.

      The Pythia, the Oracle’s priestess, her cryptic utterances once echoed through the Temple of Apollo. As we stood near the reconstructed Tholos, we imagined her veiled figure inhaling the vapors rising from the chasm below.

      From votive offerings to bronze armor, the museum’s collection spanned millennia. We traced the evolution of art, religion, and civilization. The Delphi Sphinx, with its enigmatic smile, seemed to guard the secrets of the ages.      Leia mais

      Tag 244.3: Von Aircon zu Heizung

      Nach noch kurz einem Einkaufsstop und einem Tankstop ging unsere Fahrt zunächst in Richtung Osten und dann in Richtung Norden mit etwas Tendenz Westen. Unsere eine leere Gasflasche konnten wir dank unseres DISH-Adapters bereits an einer Tankstelle auf dem Weg nach „Korinth“ wieder auffüllen.
      Unser Weg führte uns zunächst ein Stück über die Autobahn und kurz vor Athen ging es zurück auf die Landstraße. Diese führte zum Teil durch ziemlich heruntergekommenen Regionen und an vielen nicht mehr existierenden Tankstellen vorbei. Erschreckend war eine relativ große Region in der es vor nicht allzu langer Zeit Waldbrände gegeben haben muss. Sogar ein verlassener Ortsteil war neben vielen abgebrannten schwarzen Baumresten dabei.
      Wir haben uns bewusst entschieden nicht nach Athen zu fahren, da ein paar Gründe dagegen gesprochen haben: die Stellplatzsituation ist schwierig, Großstadtverkehr mit dem Gespann meist ziemlich anstrengend und es wäre Wochenende und uns dann zu voll. Also lieber weiter in die Natur und noch kleinere Orte sehen.
      Je weiter wir in Richtung „Parnass-Gebirge“ kamen, desto regnerischer wurde das Wetter und kühler die Temperaturen.
      Wir fanden einen schönen Platz neben einer kleinen Kirche „Agios Aikatarina“ (Heilige Katharina) mit eigentlich schönem Blick auf die Ortschaft „Arachova“, wenn die Wolken nicht davor sind.
      Robert baute so schnell wie möglich den Homie auf, ich brachte die Kinder rein und räumte das Eselchen kurz aus sowie aus und dann freuten wir uns in unserem warmen trockenen zu Hause zu sein.
      Zunächst war der Plan noch in eine gemütliche Taverne zum Abendessen zu gehen, aber das Wetter lud nicht dazu ein. Also machten wir es uns im Homie gemütlich.
      Als ich im Dunkeln nochmal raus bin, leuchtete „Arachova“ schön am Berghang und unser Homie strahlte eine wohlige Wärme vor den noch schneebedeckten Gipfeln des „Parnass“ aus.
      Die Temperaturen draußen sanken auf unter 5 Grad in der Nacht und somit werden wir heute Nacht anstatt die Klimaanlage wohl eventuell die Heizung wieder brauchen. Was für Temperatursprünge.      Leia mais
