Isola Ortigia

This morning we left by car with Janet & Sinclair squashed into the back seat! Getting out of Taormina was a little stressful but the drive down to Isola di Ortigia which is part of Syracuse was fine. However, the last bit through the historical centre was one way, very small, narrow roads and quite painful. St Craig Rogers was outstanding and we appreciate his very Italian efforts. Our hotel the Re Federico Boutique Hotel is certainly in a good spot. We set out walking through this baroque town exhibiting all the histories of this area including Greek, Roman, Moors and more. We initially went looking for the daily market and had a nice, noisy lunch amidst all the fresh fish and Sicilians. Afterwards, the Santa Lucia Cathedral, the town square fountain, and various buildings were all amazing. The Cathedral was originally a Greek Temple in the 5th Century BC then later repurposed as a church. All the stages were obvious in the structure and the light shades looked ottoman like and it was a most interesting church to see.En savoir plus

Fui de day trip a Syracuse. Tomé el camión de las 12:30 porque esta vez aunque corrí no alcancé el anterior. Después de hora y media llegué a la ciudad. Estuve caminando al rededor. Crucé a la isla que está unida a la parte continental por dos puentes. Pasé por las partes más turístucas, la fuente, la iglesia, caminé por la orilla hasta llegar al castillo. La vista ahí era muy bonita porque el castillo está justó al lado del mar.
Fui a buscar un lugar para comer, moría de hambre. Me senté en un restaurante y comí un arancino y una cerveza.
Luego seguí caminando, eran apenas las 5 y mi camión de regreso salía a las 8pm.
Me senté frente a la orilla del mar, estaba esperando el atardecer.
Fui en búsqueda de cannolis y un lugar para usar el baño.
Caminé un rato más al rededor de la ciudad, me senté a leer un rato y luego fui de vuelta a la estación. En mi regreso encontré una gelateria y compré un helado mitad cannoli, mitad ricotta con pera. Estaba delicioso.
Al fin volví, tomé el bus y me llevó una hora llegar a Catania. Por suerte el autobus paró cerca del hostal y no tuve que caminar mucho.
Me encontré a Diletta trabajando. Platicamos un rato y me fui a dormir.En savoir plus
