    La Spezia sehen und schmecken

    October 14, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Ach so, auf ein Schloss und vorbei an historischen Gebäuden und der Uferpromende ging es ja auch noch aber das war nur Nebensache. 😉

    La Spezia

    September 12, 2020 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

    April 20, 2018 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Another day that did not go as planned. We all waited for the guys who were taking photos on the gangway to finish and then we all headed out together to go to Piza to see the leaning tower. We knew we had to take the train for an hour to get there and that was about it. We got outside and talked to the information desk, they gave us a map and circled the train station which was a 25 minute walk. When we got to the train station it would have been a 40 minute wait for the train. So we looked it up online and it would have been a 25 minute walk again after the train to get to the tower. So we strapped the idea and decided to just relax in Le Spezia instead. We are all now relaxing in a Café called Tripoli with wifi and waiting on our lunch.Read more

    Cinque Terre

    November 24, 2017 in Italy ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

    Last day in Riomagiorre,
We had a nice relaxing stroll around the town centre, had coffee and a look good look at Riomagiorre itself. Then Roberto, our porter came to heave our heavy suitcases, one on his shoulder and the other in his hand like it was so light, along the narrow paths, down to the paved area where he could roll the suitcases, to the train station for our journey to Bologna. Roberto told us that his grandmother had to walk to La Spezia 2 to 3 times a day with grapes in a basket on her head, when there weren't any trains at Cinque Terre. La Spezie is twice the distance of our hike to Portovenere.Read more

    La Spezía, Italy

    March 30, 2018 in Italy ⋅ 🌫 14 °C

Today was a disappointment. I had requested a tour to go to Florence which I didn’t get. So Jackson and I just went out to explore La Spezía instead. There however was nothing here. There was the beginnings of a boat show for the weekend along the harbour but everything everywhere was deserted. There wasn’t much to see, we’re just sitting in the cruise terminal using the wifi to fill in time until we start work. Coming back here I would push harder to get on the Florence tour.Read more

    La Spezia, Italy

    June 22, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

This morning we docked at La Spezia and walked to the train station to catch our train to visit 3 villages. It was a very easy half hour walk and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The walk gave me an opportunity to walk off the black pudding I had for breakfast. What a treat it was, something I haven't had for years.

There are 5 villages located on the coastline which are collectively known as ‘Cinque Terre’. A short train ride from La Spezia gets you there. The first village we visited was Vernazza. It is an old fishing village with a very small harbour. Very quaint and picturesque but overflowing with tourists. Next was Monterosso al Mare. Much bigger and even more tourists. The beaches here are private in the main and for a daily fee you have your own changing box, sun lounges and umbrella. Not sure what the price is though.

We had lunch and shopped for a while. Jo bought a local liqueur she loves, Limonchilos. From memory, the last time she had it was when we were here in Italy 2 years ago.
Then it was off to the third and last stop off, Riomaggiore another quaint historical fishing village.

We teamed with a slightly younger couple from another tour ship. She was German and he Irish. Both couples rued that we weren't on the same cruise ship as we really hit it off.
Once back in our cabin we proceeded to freshen up before dinner. The staff are highly efficient and tidy up after us even though we leave our cabin tidy. I don't think they understand our system as everything is in a different place when we come home from dinner.

We generally go to the cabaret show each night and have thoroughly enjoying them.
