Lerma has become a popular destination for both casual visitors and dedicated eclipse chasers. The Mirador de Los Arcos sits high on a hill, offering open views to the east and north—but most importantly, for August 12, 2026, it boasts a wide, unobstructed view to the west. Early arrivals claimed the best spots along the western edge, while later crowds began gathering from around 6:00 PM onward. After the sunset around 9:20 PM making the end of the eclipse, crowds started leaving.

Today around 7:30 p.m., the town of Lerma in northern Spain will witness a total solar eclipse. We drove here before noon, went up to the Mirador de Los Arcos (the Arch Viewpoint), and carefully picked a spot with the right angle and height. Quite a few people had already staked out their positions before us, and more kept arriving afterward. With another five and a half hours to go until the eclipse begins, we're full of anticipation.

I did not have high expectation on finding food along that mountain road on a Sunday afternoon, but this little shop proved me wrong. We absolutely loved the meatballs, tuna salad, and carrilleras de cerdo - simply delicious.

After leaving Annecy, we passed through Grenoble. There's something fun we couldn't miss.
Grenoble has the famous Grenoble-Bastille cable car (Téléphérique de Grenoble Bastille). On our way from Geneva Switzerland to Valence France we stopped by Château d'Annecy.
Château d'Annecy is a landmark medieval castle in the old town of Annecy, in the Haute-Savoie department of France. It has been classified as a French historical monument. We climbed the 157 steps of the north tower and were rewarded with a breathtaking 360° panoramic view—across the city, over Lake Geneva, and all the way to Mont Blanc. The scenery was absolutely spectacular.

On our way to UN European Headquarters we came to this park by ferry M3 then M4, just to enjoy the scenery of the lake. There is a Statue of Cervantes (Don Quixote author) near the lakefront. The brass plaque bears the text “The City of Madrid to the City of Geneva” (in Spanish or French), symbolising the cultural exchange between the two cities.
