    Road Trip to Sayulita!

    11 février 2020, Mexique ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

GAHS: When researching our trip, the old boy had discovered a funky little town north of PV that was highly recommended by Trip Advisor. And so, in honor of my birthday we booked a room and hopped on the bus to make our way to Sayulita. It would have cost us $500 pesos to take a cab (@$35 CAD) but we opted to save some money and take a bus for$81 pesos/person. One would expect to be dropped off right in the town of Sayulita ... but ... no. We were dropped off on the highway a few kilometers from the town site. I couldnt see any taxis anywhere so we wandered over to the gas station.

GRATITUDES: Thank goodness a women on a motor cycle directed us to the line up of white multi-passenger vans lined up across the road. THEY were the taxis. Once we got close enough you could see the very wee, tiny taxi symbol faintly painted in front of the driver's door!!! Sheesh .... it cost us a other 70 pesos to get from the highway to the hotel! The price of the cab seems quite reasonable in retrospect. Such are the joys of travel. 🙄

Sayulita has a very laid back, hippy vibe ... lots of artisans and locals selling their wares in quaint little shops that smell of incense and/or essential oils. The streets are lined with tables jutting out of restaurants and bars ... hoping to capture the tourists.

GIFTS: We had some time to kill before we could check into our room so the old boy was in search of a good fish taco (again!!) and was recommended to try a little hole in the wall ... literally... a little hole in the wall on the corner. It was called Taco Gaby's. And well .... it was oh so good ... that we might have to go back!!! Oh ... and the taco cost 25 pesos. He had one later in a restaurant on the beach that cost 200 pesos! I probably don't even have to tell you which one was better, do I?

We srolled the streets and found a Christmas ornament and then eagerly ventured over to our hotel to check in! Its always a bit nerve racking because you never really know, until you arrive, if you'll be happy with the room you booked. AND .... we were not the least bit disappointed with the room ... but .... the clouds moved in and the wind picked up and we probably won't need the a/c tonight after all.

Our balcony overlooks the ocean and we were hoping to have a little beach time today ... but ... fingers crossed the sun shines again tomorrow because we were able to get a late day check out (5pm!) in hopes we'd be able to take advantage of the amenities here. 🤞🤞

Before we headed out to supper we enjoyed the view from our balcony ... lots of people surfing in this area!! We went to "Mary's" for supper based upon the rave reviews ... but most disappointingly ... it was really salty. 😔 Fortunately, we have not yet had any ill effects ... and ... bought some homemade banana bread from a fellow walking the streets. It was delicious!!

And ... although we rushed home in hopes of having a great vantage point to see the sunset ... the mountain impeded our view. We are not complaining though ... because the sights from our balcony are still pretty darn spectacular!!

Good night from Sayulita .... 💛

    Beachy Blessings!

    12 février 2020, Mexique ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

GOODNESS: Well .... we thought some beach time by the water in Sayulita would be a perfect addition to the Mexican heat .... but .... we no sooner arrived and the clouds and wind rolled in. We were hoping to see some sun this morning, but no. And yet .... how could one not be grateful anyway .... sipping our coffee on our balcony overlooking the ocean .... watching the hoards of seagulls, pelicans and garnets(?) squacking frenetically and jockeying for best position whilst impatiently awaiting the 5 gallon pail of fisherman's 'waste' (I.e. fish guts) to be tossed in their direction. I forgot how loud the ocean is!!! It seemed a bit calmer than yesterday (fewer surfers) but still so active.

GRATITUDES: After a nice home cooked breakfast of veggie sandwiches, tomatoes and mangos we wandered the streets and meandered our way through a small local market. I picked up one of the signature symbols that hang across the streets from a little family who were selling them on a corner. I took a picture of the Mama holding up a pink one that she was currently creating! Apparently, these little mats are invitation to the divine for blessings .... blessings of all kinds.

GASPS: A little further along, I wanted to take a picture of one of the bars that had swings for seats. The old boy positioned himself on the swing ... and then ... before he could even order a Cervasa .... he fell backwards off of it onto the sidewalk!! 😲😟😬 He said his head was okay ... and thankfully the bartender had some cotton balls and antiseptic for the wound on his arm (I'm guessing he's not the only one to take a tumble!). After that unwelcome surprise ... he opted to straddle the swing while he enjoyed his beer!

GROANS: And somehow, completely unbeknownst to me, I ended up with bird shit on my blouse. 🤔🤨🧐 Thankfully, I packed a change of clothes.

GIFTS: We have enjoyed our time here thoroughly ... despite the lack of sunshine! We even had 4 more of Gaby's tacos before heading back to Vallarta. It has been a grand little adventure but we are ready to reconnect with our amigos! Gratefully, our taxi driver arrived as scheduled and we arrived back at home in time to enjoy some fine dining together at our favorite corner hamburger and taco stands! 🤞🤞

    Birthday Ps ...

    13 février 2020, Mexique ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

GOODNESS: Its Jacky's birthday today so ... she had a whole lot of "P"s in mind in order to mark the celebration! Our day started off with side by side "P"edicures courtesy of her thoughtful son! He knew it would be more fun with a friend ... so ... I benefited big time!! Purple for me and blue for her!

Then we stopped for a little refreshment and the birthday girl ordered a "P"ina Colada .... which she thoroughly enjoyed. The old boy and I ordered the two for one view o blanco ... but ... the wine had turned and they didn't have anymore so we indulged in a delicious margarita instead ... I had the chica and he had the big one!! We traded up for Patron .... because ... as you know ... I'm a bit finicky about my tequila! And ... they did not disappoint!

And then ... enroute to lunch, we came across a few iguanas sunning themselves on the rocks. One of them was obvious ... but see if you can see the other two. They are almost undetectable on those rocks!! Better there than on my shoulders! 🥴

GRINS AND GIGGLES: We enjoyed a lovely lunch ... and .... were blown away when the servers brought the "P"arty to the birthday girl .... including a couple of spontaneous lap dances! Be sure to check out the video! 😉

And then .... after pitching up a few things for our Valentines Party tomorrow, we headed back to our casa ... passed by some gorgeous foliage ... dropped our refreshments under the "P"alapa and dipped our toes in the "P"ool! All in all, it was a ovely day celebrating a lovely lady!! 💖

And now ... we are all relaxing at home .... "P"artied right out ... and almost ready for bed.

GAHS: It is so hard to believe we only have 3 more sleeps until we are home. It has gone by far too fast ...😔

    Valentines Day Pool Party!

    15 février 2020, Mexique ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

GAHS: I'm a day late with my post .... but here is a wee snippet of our Mexican fun and frolic yesterday. While the boys were having their coffee at the kitchen table, we mosied over to the pool in our pjs yesterday morning. Since our days of enjoying the warm sunshine are dwindling rapidly, starting the day with the sun on our shoulders, coffee in hand and nibbling on the moist, delicious banana bread we brought back from Sayulita was so very lovely. ☀️🌞

GRINS: We cooked up some chorizo and scrambled eggs for breakfast. And since we don't have a toaster .... we improvised! And viola!

GRATITUDES: We had invited our new friends (who let us do laundry at their place last week) over for a grilled shrimp, garlic chicken and roasted pepper BBQ. It was nice to enjoy the gorgeous weather poolside. We even got a scrumptious cake from the bakery!

I even got a wee glimpse of the sunset last night. It is our Mexican mission today to finish our last full day here on a beach watching a sunset. We haven't been positioned properly to enjoy one yet ... so ... tonight is the night!

Hope you all had a nice Valentines day! 💖

    Sandals, Shorts, Shrimp and Sunsets

    16 février 2020, Mexique ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

GREATNESS: We were looking for a great place for our 'last supper' in PV. And, of course, our initial plan never panned out. And so, we decided to revisit our 'favorite' spot near the Malecon instead. Gaby's is where we has the most spectacular coconut shrimp ... and ... now we know they also have the most spectacular margaritas!!! They used a tequila that I didn't recognize .... but .... it was even better than Patron. Those "Premium" margaritas made with Don Julio Añejo tequila were so good we ordered one 'to go' and put it in our trusty Contigo mug .... so we could sip on it while watching the sunset.

Turns out we ended up at a great little pub/restaurant on the edge of the water .... we arrived at 5pm and had a couple of hours to wait for the sun to go down ... so we opted to simply while away the hours in the warm sunshine! The cervesas and wine and tequila made the waiting much easier!😉

GLORIOUSNESS: We were concerned that the cloud cover from the day might mean no sunset .... but .... we were very fortunate indeed!! It was such a fabulous evening ... and .... a great dway to celebrate our last evening here in this pretty paradise! 💥💥💥💥💥

GAHS: And then the competition was on for who could get the best pic!! Unfortunately, despite the 213 shots I took, Finny captured the best two within the 25 he took!

GROANS: The results of Leg 2 of the Collosal Cutthroat Coaster Contest are in ... the one of us with the most different colored coasters is: Jacky!!! She scored by collecting 9 different colored coasters. 🙌

GRATITUDES: All in all, we are heading home with a heartful of smiles and so many great memories of sandals, sand, sunshine, skorts .... a sunset ... and so much silly fun! 😍🤩🤗
