Met an english girl in Kaitaia and we got a lift to Takahue. Would have been hiking on a highway with no sidewalk and gravel road... Walking in the forest up the hills on a muddy path. She might have decided to go back and hike an alternative route down to Broadwood. In the evening another swiss couple arrived though I thought I'd be alone.Read more

Mangamuka Gorge Walkway je dobrym prikladem typicke novozelandske dzungle. Husty, bazinaty, kluzky... ale nadherne zeleny prales plny vsemoznych druhu stromu, palem, kapradi, mechu. Pro Toma prvni setkani s NZ busi, ktere mu evidentne moc nesedlo. Ale i pres mnohe pady bojoval statecne a po 2,5 hodinach, kdy jsme se znovu zjevili u auta, se pokryty bahnem porad usmival ;-). Slibene kauri velikany ani nadherne vyhledy jsme ovsem nevideli :-(.
A protoze jsme jakymsi zahadnym zpusobem minuli oficialni DOC free campsite, rozhodli jsme se dnes kempovat na odpocivadle kousek od silnice. Je to tu dost remote, tak to snad bude ok. V superledove swimming hole jsme ze sebe smyli blato a pak jsem nam za odmenu usmazila palacinky.Read more
