      Day Eleven: Around Lisbon

      March 26 in Portugal ⋅ 🌬 14 °C

With plans for big days, we set alarms for 7:30, ready to hang out Helena for a day towards Sintra. Yet all is never set in stone. We ended up sleeping in till 12 (we have not been sleeping at all...) and Helena ended up being sick or unwell, so we didn't get to go. But that's OK, Ethan loves the ocean and fish, so we ended up in the oceanarium! Wow, it was amazing. There were so many fish and interesting exhibits. There was one with penguins that had no glass or wall between us, and one was sitting right on the end, I could have petted him if I wanted! Then, right after, there was one with birds, which were being fed right in front of us. The lady would throw food in the air, and the bird would honestly be flying a couple inches from our heads. It's just so strange because I feel like back home, you would never be able to be right beside the animals. Maybe North Americans are really assholes. But afterward, we finally risked the public transportation to head to the lisbon castle. It went quite smoothly, but man, the bus was LOADED with people. Ended up stopping for a 4.80 euro sandwich and coffee (how is it so cheap!) On our way up to the castle, we decided to use the e scooters. Then, to realize certain areas you can not park the scooters... so we had to go back to where we started. But we did get to stop for some crazy views! I did almost fall off the viewpoint, but luckily, I was there to catch myself! After all this, when we finally got to the castle, it was too late... so for the third time this trip, I arrived late for something. But that's OK, there is so much to see, and honestly, I have had so much fun just being present in this crazy new world, having a coffee or just walking around is treat alone. We even found this little secret gem of a rooftop bar with fabulous views and vibes. There is nothing better than watching the city with a bottle of wine. It's a great way to close out the day. Until you realize you never had dinner when you finally reach the hostel and the only place open was this hole in a way. The kitchen was closed, but they said they would make their meat of the day, with no idea what it was, wondering if it is even a good idea to eat here we dug in. And wow, it is so far one of my favorite meals for sure! That was the best way to finish the day.Read more

      Dag 19

      May 1, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Read more

      Lisboa Day 3

      March 26 in Portugal ⋅ 🌬 13 °C

Today, the plan was to wake up sorta early and see if the weather was good enough to go to Sintra, we ended up waking up at 12 instead lol. Musta been pretty tired, I guess. After we got a move on, we decided to go to the aquarium. I'm only able to post 2 videos per post, so there might be a day 3 part 2 post because the aquarium was unbelievable. There are so many awesome things to see! I got a business idea, though lol. There needs to be a 16+ aquarium. I'm sorry, but your screaming infant doesn't care about jellyfish. After the aquarium we bussed back near our area. We hopped off a little early to just walk around and explore the city. We heard there was a huge 4-acre castle. Unfortunately, we explored for too long, and we wouldn't have had time to make it to the top before it closed. Side note, the sidewalks are slipery when wet. I slipped down a few stairs leaving the castle, and made a scene. Everyone saw, so i had to act like my shoulder didn't hurt lol. After I recovered, we found a rooftop bar with amazing views and atmosphere. We got a little snacky after so we went looking for a small bite to eat, we ended up finding a hole in the wall place that we immediately decided was gonna below average but it was our only choice. Well, they ended up making us food even after they closed the kitchen, and it was honestly some of the best food yet. Shout out to Tambarina!Read more

      WYD Day 2

      August 2, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

This morning we met up for our first ‘Rise Up’ session of WYD. Unfortunately the sound wasn’t great so we ended up leaving and heading back to the hotel for Mass - lead by Fr Andrew.

After Mass we were free to go and attend any of the Youth Festival events across the city. Miki and I headed to the Aquarium for a presentation however the event filled just before we got to the front of the line.

We decided to go on a round trip on the Skyliner instead. From the carriage we had an incredible view!

After the skyliner we went back to the hotel for a rest, and then to dinner. We had a pilgrim meal at a small kebab shop. In the line we got talking to two Brazilian men and we shared stories of kangaroos in Australia and our dangerous birds. One of the men shared that he had recently done a 14 day mission to a group of indigenous people in the Amazon. While there, the camp was attacked by cannibals and a young girl was taken. Suddenly the Australian wildlife didn’t seem so scary!

Miki and I took our dinner to the park and after eating had an easy trip back to the hotel for an early night.

      Lissabon - Ocenário de Lisboa

      May 1, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

      April 5, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Read more

    • Lisbon-Aquarium

      November 8, 2022 in Portugal ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

Lisbon is one of Europes sunniest capitals, so we witnessed the rare phenomenon of heavy rain today.
Flexible as we are, we decided to continue a tour of connected Aquariums around the world that we started in Palma de Mallorca.
An impressive institution and the ideal place for a day like that.
      They even had sea-otters 😍.

After leaving, the sky turned blue and we finished the remaining bus-tour through the modern parts of Lisbon. Less impressive for the lovers of old architecture that we are, but interesting nevertheless.

We visited our favorite restaurant, came to know the Pittsburgh-Pat and got our last Ginjinha.

...at least, so we thought, because our evening ended in a cute little Fado-Bar with enchanting music where we drank some port, some wine and the definitely last ginjinha...for now

    • Regentag

      November 17, 2019 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Heute morgen ging es sehr früh los. Ungewollt.

      Home today

      May 21, 2023 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Well I don't know what's rocked my boat more the azores or Lisbon.

In all honesty it has to be the azores, what a beautiful island and the people so friendly with the added bonus of seeing the whales, most of my pics are on the camera ...it was awesome.

Mind you Lisbon has come close, some good food and some really good beer, even found a real ale bar that is self service and sells 7.1 ° cider 😍

Only 106 days until my next sojourn 😎🌞
