Das Meer immer fest im Blick

Aufwachen und als Erstes das Meer hören, wie schön. Frühstück im Hotel und danach etwas Sonnen auf unserer Terrasse, auch nicht übel. Damit wir hier im Hotel nicht zu faul werden, geht es danach auf eine etwa 5 km lange Wanderung, immer entlang der Küste, stets begleitet von einer stürmischen Brise. Danach wieder chillen im Hotel mit diesem Blick aufs Meer, von dem ich einfach nicht genug bekomme. Morgen muss ich mich allerdings schweren Herzens trennen, Bilbao möchte erkundet werden...Read more

Last night's campsite was but a stones throw from the beach. Was great being able to hear the ocean all night.

Not a long ride today but good to get into Santander early to do some exploring of the city.Read more

Santander

Today we take a day of rest and explore the city of Santander. It's a nice experience after many days of waking up, eating something, putting on the backpack and going to the next place.
Still this day involved walking but without the pack it's so much more comfortable.
We walked over the beach, visited the cathedral and now we're at a bodega for lunch. Life in Spain is good. 🇪🇸☀️Read more

Leaving Santander by the coast

We took another coastal option today. Instead of following the arrows along concrete and asphalt, we walked along the promenade towards the beaches and the cliffs, passing through some very nice parts of Santander. I'm surprised that more pilgrims don't take this variant.Read more

Traveler Elizabeth - you need to join the Camino forum! I'll send you links when I get home. Laurie - 8 people took the coastal route out of Santander a day after us, using your GPS tracks! The word is spreading, but most pilgrims we met were Spanish (using Gronze) or German (using the red or yellow German guides).

Chilling on the beach

Santander -> Bilbao

Nach einem morgendlichen Besuch des Infinity Pools unseres Hotels laufen wir über einen toll angelegten Wanderweg weit oben über dem Wasser entlang und pflücken uns ein paar Feigen vom Baum.
Nach 20 min erreichen wir den wunderschönen Playa de Mataleñas, den wir fast ganz für uns alleine haben. Wir spielen Karten und lassen die Seele baumeln.
Am Nachmittag nehmen wir den Bus nach Bilbao. Dort lassen wir nach einem Spaziergang im Casco Viejo den Abend mit Pinchos und Cidre auf dem Plaza Nueva ausklingen.Read more

La credencial is the proof of all the places you have visited on the Camino. It's a personal document and you can have it stamped and dated in the hostels, churches, ferries and what not more.
This is what mine looks like today. It's filled for 1/3, so we have to be careful with the space for the next 600km. Buen Camino!Read more

Beautiful walk around the cliffs and across the beach then a boat across to Santander. It was hard work walking on the sand and when we sat down for a rest nearly got swamped by a large wave. We are staying here for 2 days to rest our feet and our bodies. After a trip to the pharmacy we should have everything we need to treat our damaged feet!Read more

Spanish & octopus.

A full day of lessons through till 8 looked like hard work at tge best of times let alone with a hangover. An early start wasn't ideal either. Battled through gamely - verbs & adjectives don't help a headache. Downtime was hindered by torrential rain. Tried translating the local paper's match report but that hurt my brain a bit too much. Eventually honework was set & the day was done. Into town for food except everyone had eaten so just me - had some octopus liberally coated with olive oil & paprika.Read more

Arrivati in città per le 12:00 circa, ci dirigiamo verso de collina de la Magdalena dove abbiamo individuato un parcheggio 🚙_O🅿️ adatto per ERNESTO. Da qui, nonostante la schiarita 🌥️ ci armiamo di ombrello 🌂 e impermeabile 🧥 e ci incamminiamo verso il centro percorrendo la passeggiata con una spettacolare vista sula BAIA e il porto in secca per la ⏬ BASSA MAREA.
Iniziamo la visita dal CENTRO BOTIN di RENZO PIANO 🧑‍💼📐, di cui apprezziamo ogni piccola sfaccettatura anche grazie al sole 🌞 appena spuntato. Facciamo scatti 📸 di ogni angolatura, cogliendo oltre che la cura del dettaglio anche il particolare e forte rapporto di fusione con il paesaggio e con la città che il progetto ha saputo definire. Procediamo la visita con gli esterni della cattedrale ⛪ per poi raggiungere il Mercado DE LA ESPERANZA 🛒🛍️ dove non rinunciamo a qualche acquisto comprando pane 🥖🥖 2 BARRE AL MAIS qualche EMPANADAS 🥟🥟🥟 per il pranzo e qualche dolcetto tipico cantabrico: per le colazioni scegliamo il SOBAOS 🥮 (100% MANTEQUILLA) e per la cena 🥧 la QUESADA PASIEGA. 😋😋😋 TOT €23,00.
Usciti dal mercato in chiusura alle 14:00 veniamo sorpresi dalla pioggia 🌧️🌧️, così giunti a PLAZA PORTICADO ci gustiamo 😋 il pranzo 🍝 su comode sedute al coperto. Terminata la breve pausa pranzo sotto una pioggia 🌧️🌧️ battente ripercorriamo i 5 km di passeggiata che ci separano dal parcheggio 🅿️🚙_O da dove ripartiamo per le ore 15:20 circa direzione COMILLAS.Read more

Sunshine at last.

Morning run, though not Ipanema, was the closest so far - beachside run with some hint of sunshine ... promising. A late final lesson (11.30) left time for a little relaxing in the sunshine & little walk along the beach. Following another verb frenzy there was the obligatory sociable meal which was tolerated - went for the light options to see if that helped - my stomach rather than my inherent anti-social instincts. Got ripped off & still insisted on leaving a tip - clearly my influence didn't carry any weight. Had a little walk around Magdalena Peninsula - admiring the views & the former royal summer residence.Read more
