      4. Etappe von Liendo nach Santona

      Motto des Tages: Es kommt niemals ein Pilger nach Hause, ohne ein Vorurteil weniger und eine neue Idee mehr zu haben (Thomas Morus)

      Nachdem unser Schlafsaal in der Albergue die ganze Nacht einen heftigen Schnarcher genossen hatte, ging es dann um 07:00 Uhr ohne Frühstück Richtung Laredo. Der Pastor hatte uns morgens um 08:00 Uhr zur Messe eingeladen, aber wir mussten ja schon los. Anfangs ein Stück Straße, die dann in einen Feldweg mit steilem Anstieg mündete. 5 Kilometer lang begleiteten uns dann holprige steinige Wege, die uns alles abverlangten. Schön, aber schwer zu gehen. Es ging nur bergauf. Aber wie heißt es so schön: Wo es raufgeht, geht es auch wieder runter. Bergauf geht schweißtreibend auf den Puls, bergab werden die Knie gefordert. Ein toller Ausblick auf Laredo war der Lohn für diese harte Strecke und das am frühen Morgen. Nachdem wir heute morgen die Kirche aus Zeitgründen ausgelassen haben, haben wir dann einen kleinen Abstecher in die Eglisia Santa Maria gemacht. In Laredo haben wir dann um 11:00 Uhr unser verspätetes Frühstück eingenommen. Gut gestärkt (außer Karl, der nie Hunger hat!) entschieden wir dann nach Santano weiter zu pilgern. Vorbei an einem für Spanien so typischen Markt, auf dem Karl 3 Bananen, 2 Äpfel und 1 Apfelsine für 2,90 Euro erworben hat. Nach fast 7 Kilometern Strandpromenade bei 24 Grad setzten wir mit einer kleinen Personenfähre über und gingen zu unserer über Booking.com gebuchten Pension. Wir hatten ja noch ein bisschen Schlaf nach zu holen. Ab morgen wird das Wetter kälter. Warten wir mal ab, was der Wettergott uns beschert.Read more

      5.Etappe von Santona nach Noja

      Motto des Tages: L'Chaim, Lechajim oder Lachaim ist auch ein hebräischer Trinkspruch, er bedeutet „Auf das Leben“. Es ist kein Wunsch für die Zukunft wie die meisten Trinksprüche.

      Heute feiert Karl seinen 65. Geburtstag in Asturien. In diesem Sinne haben wir entschlossen, nur eine kurze Etappe von 9 Kilometern zu gehen. Die Pension in Noja mit Meerblick haben wir schon gebucht und werden dann den Tag entsprechend genießen. Ich denke mal dass Karl sich nicht lumpen lässt.

      Mit einer weiblichen Begleitung, Mosiell aus Polen, die wir schon aus 2 Albuerges kannten, setzten wir den Weg nach Noja fort. Im Laufe des Caminos trifft man immer wieder auf Wegbegleiter. Nette Gespräche erleichterten den heutigen steilen und holprigen Camino entlang der Küste, bevor wir nach Überquerung des Höhenzuges auf den auch hier langen Sandstrand von Noja aufschlugen. Hier trennten sich unser Weg mit Mosiell mit einem herzlichen Buen Camino. In unserem zuvor gebuchten Hotel gönnten wir uns erst einmal ein Geburtstagsbierchen. Nach drei Cerveza Grande haben wir jetzt entschieden, das Abendessen mit einer traditionellen Paella de Bogavanta (traditional) vorzuziehen. Grund: Die Küche schließt um 16:00 Uhr und öffnet dann erst wieder um 20:30 Uhr. Wie immer gehen die Spanier erst abends spät essen, dann sind wir aber verhungert. Nach der Paella mit einem leckeren Vino Tinto beziehen wir jetzt unser Zimmer mit Meerblick. Die Temperatur lag heute mit 19 Grad ideal zum Wandern. Die Biskaya hat gerade eine Wassertemperatur von 16,3 Grad. Karl hat von mir noch einen kleinen Geburtstagsstrauss (siehe Bild) bekommen. Zum Abschluss haben wir uns noch 2 Flaschen Vino Blanco und 2 Longaniza Criolla (eine Art Mettwurst) auf dem Balkon mit Meerblick gegönnt und den Geburtstagsabend entsprechend ausklingen lassen.       Ausflug nach Santona

      Von der Puntal de Lareda geht eine kleine Fähre nach Santona auf die andere Seite der Bucht. Die Fähre legt direkt am Strand an, ein kleiner Steg wird herunter gelassen und los gehts. Nach nicht mal 10 Min ist man auf der anderen Seite der Bucht. Santonas Hafen war der erste in Kantabrien, in dem Fisch (Tunfisch und Anschovis in Olivenöl) in Konserven verpackt wurden.Read more

      Day Eight: Castro Urdailes to Santona

      We took advantage of the privacy to sleep in just a little comprimisng on the a 715am alarm. We had been up later than expected looking for places to eat. I am always caught off gaurd how we will arrive somewhere and it is quite calm and peaceful and then siesta ends and the streets beging to swell. People dont go straight to dinner either they first get a drink and a snack (theres a name for it but i cant remeber) and then they begin having dinner around 830 or 9. It also didnt help that it was saturday night. But despite some aimeless wandering we found a place. We continued today to get mode dramatic coast lines and were given a nice break from all the pavement for some time. The three of us joke a lot that we've become boogie pilgrims, leaving around 7 or 8 (most pilgrims seem to be up and on the road by 6am!!), and then stopping for first and second breakfast before lunch. But its what we like and the camino has something different for everyone. We also decided that we would be called the White Lotus, a homage to the secret society good guys in Avatar the Last airbender. As we we are all quite non drama and try to be respectful as much as possible, something that cant always be said for other pilgrims. Our feet continue to be sore and the extra weight from all the extra clothes I brought seemed to be catching up to me today. I really needed to focus when going up hills. After some amazing views and scaling some large hills we decended into Laredo. Another larger vacation city situated in a cove of sorts. It was like a penisula with something like a 5-6km beach running its length. We stopped at the hostel there and even though they had beds we decided to take the ferry out of Laredo into Santona. The hostel there said they were full but if we showed up they would call "families" and we thought that would be a worthy experience. We bumped into Samuel and Timothy again. They seem to make their once a day appearance, to give us the scoop on the town or the latest tea and keep going. It almost feels like they are ths NPCs of a video game. At the hostel the two other girls from germany arrived at the same time and the guy running the hostel was very frustrated with them over a miscommunication. It was really akward but i barely had any idea what was happening. He did indeed call "families" and he shuffled all 5 of us outside to meet this lady that was taking us to her apartment. It was tiny. And we laughed to ourselves over the situation we got ourselves in. We blew up an airmatress in tbe living room and i rolled out my mat. The girls took the bedroom. The three of us went down for a quick swim and dinner before settling in for the night.Read more

      Liendo - Laredo - Santoña

      Nach einer Nacht in einer mehr als grauenhaften Herberge🙈18 Betten auf ca 35qm voller Spark gehts weiter in Traumhafter Stiller Natur. Du kleine Bergdörfer die nur von eigen Produkten leben über das große Touristische Laredo. Mit traumhaften langen weißen Stränden. Ich merke aber je mehr ich hier in der fast unberührten Natur laufe desto krasser ist es dann die Menschenmassen in den großen Städten zu sehen. Unterwegs trifft man auch höchstens auf eine Handvoll Pilger . Bevor sich dann in den Herbergen wieder alles trifft. Ich bin so froh und dankbar diese Erfahrung machen zu dürfen. Es verändert jetzt schon so viel in mir...was braucht man wirklich zum Leben?????
      Und das wichtigste ist, das ich mehr und mehr in die Gesundung gehe

      Day 20

      Laredo to Santoña

      We wake to the sun streaming into our room, it's a short walking day today so there is no need to get up early and get ready, so over I roll and go back to sleep for another half hour, I re-awake to people in the courtyard chatting and eating their breakfast and decide it's time to get up. George and Lisa have left to go to breakfast, I will follow shortly. It's a beautiful day in Laredo and I would have loved to have spent more time in this city, it's beautiful, friendly and has a party vibe at night and a relaxed vibe during the day. We finish breakfast, finish packing our backpacks, check out and head off. We walk to the esplanade, we can't see the sea over the high sand dunes, but you can hear it and smell the salt in the air, it's a lovely walk out to the point to catch the ferry to Santona. There are bike riders, walkers, runners, couples, dog walkers and pilgrims, we have a flat paved walk to the point then we hit the beach to walk to the ferry that docks right on the beach. It costs 2€ to take the ferry and takes about 10 minutes to get to Santoña. We then walk to our pension, we can't check in until 1:30pm, but we swing by in the hopes that we can drop our backpacks off, we arrived at our accommodation, but can't find anyone so we head into the plaza for a drink. We follow the sound of music and find a table in the shade facing the plaza and we sit back and enjoy the festivities going on, there is music, dancing, a foam machine and a presentation. The plaza is full of families and it's a very upbeat vibe. By the time we leave a lot of kids and parents have been foamed, but the presentation hasn't started. We head back to our pension, book in and catch up on some posts, journaling and sleep. I think we are all pretty exhausted and my feet are throbbing. We meet up with George at 8pm in search of dinner, we end up at an Italian restaurant where we order peppers, pizza and spaghetti bolognese, oh and wine of course, we then head back to our rooms for sleep.Read more

      Day 21

      Santoña

      Yay, sleep in today! I wake at around 9:30am, it's been a noisy night in this Pension, so continuous sleep has evaded me, but that's what you get with shared accommodation, at least I can get up when I am ready. George and Lisa go to breakfast and I sleep on for another 10 minutes or so, then I hop up, shower and head for breakfast. I meet Lisa and George at the door to the Pension, I hand over the keys to our room and I head for breakfast, leaving Louie to do her washing. I have a yummy cafe con leche at breakfast, work on my journal and chat to Mum and Ann. Then it's time to head back to our room, I need to wash my smalls so they have time to dry before heading to lunch. Abby (the lovely lady that runs this pension) recommended a restaurant a few streets away called “La Tradicional”, so we decide to check it out for lunch today. Louie and I order prawns two ways with red sauce as well as chicken wing dings and patatas, George orders Paella Mixta and of course we all order wine, the meals and the wine are delicious, we leave with full bellies and I am in need of a nanny nap, all this wine (2 glasses) has gone straight to my head, I am such a light weight when it comes to drinking, sorry Louie, you have been trying to train me in the art of drinking for the past 27 years and I am still a complete disappointment. I sleep for a couple of hours while Lisa and George go exploring. I then wake up and continue working on my journal until it's time for dinner, on our way home from dinner, we pass a laundromat, we can't believe it, we tried to Google one in this town but it said the nearest one was in Laredo, google how could you, you lied to us, keep that up and we will have to find a different search engine!! Anyway the day is done, I have got a lot of journaling done over this rest day and that is what I wanted to achieve, oh and to rest these throbbing feet.Read more

      9. Etappe: Liendo - Santona

      Heute Morgen gemütlich um kurz nach 8 gestartet, da wir nur eine kurze Etappe vor uns hatten und das Wetter schlecht werden sollte. Es blieb dann zum Glück zwar bewölkt, aber ansonsten trocken. Die Gegend wild romantisch, die Ortschaft Laredo versprach von oben gesehen schöner zu sein, als sie tatsächlich war. Die Suche nach dem Anleger der Fähre war lustig, weil keiner wusste wo er war. Kein Wunder, es gab gar keinen. Örtchen Santona ganz niedlich, aber nach 2 Stunden ist man auch durch. Die Herberge, die wir eigentlich ansteuern wollten, hatte geschlossen, so dass wir die Alternative nehmen mussten. Sehr zentral gelegen, ansonsten eher schmuddelig. Naja, für 1 Nacht wird es schon gehen. Heute wieder den kompletten Tag mit Anja verbracht. Immer noch sehr nett. Jannis hat sich heute auch wieder gemeldet, ich bezweifle aber, dass wir uns nochmal sehen werden. Aber wer weiß.Read more

      Day 8

      Tag 8: Wald, Strand->kleiner Sonnenbrand

      Strecke: 22 KM; HM: 500; von El Pontarron nach Santona

      Heute früh haben wir die Herberge zügig verlassen. Wir waren ganz froh endlich raus zu sein. Nach einem kleinen Marsch ins Landesinnere standen heute 2 kleinere Berge auf den Programm um wieder zurück an die Küste zu kommen. Die Wälder bestehen hier zum Großteil aus Eukalyptusbäumen. Dementsprechend hat es auch sehr angenehm danach gerochen. Ich glaub dass haben wir noch gar nicht geschrieben, dass der Wald in diesen Regionen fast nur aus Eukalyptusbäumen besteht und auch stellenweise Bambus wächst. Diese Pflanzen gibt es schon seit Tag 1. Hinter den Bergen sind wir dann auf die Stadt Laredo gestoßen, die einen unglaublich schönen Strand hat. Am Strand selber war gar nix los. Das meiste hatte geschlossen, da die Saison noch nicht begonnen hat. Hier sind wir 5 KM am Strand entlang bis wir an die Spitze der Bucht gelangt sind. Hier sind wir dann per Wassertaxi auf die andere Seite nach Santona übergesetzt und sind nun in der mit Abstand Besten Alberque. Riesengroß in einem spanischen Altstadtzentrum vor einem großen Platz mit Cafés gelegen. Top ausgestattet und alles neu und sehr gepflegt. Heute war es bei strahlendem Sonnenschein um die 18 Grad. Morgen geht's an die 23 und übermorgen geht es schon an die 30 ran. Ich hoffe wir könnenbei der Hitze dann noch unsere Kilometer laufen😉Read more
