Last night we stayed in a concrete teepee at Wigwam Village Motel.
Today we took a side trip off the route and went to San Bernardino National Forest, where we hiked the Alpine Pedal Path.
Highlights from today's travel.
We started out the day by doing a walking tour of the last remaining "Main Street" on the route. The town commissioned a series of murals highlighting the history of the area.
We took a short side trip to see the "Old Woman Meteorite", the second largest meteorite in the US. We also got to see their resident animals, including a desert tortoise and a toad.
We had lunch at the Bagdad Cafe, which was made famous by the 1987 movie of the same name. The place is plastered with souvenirs from the tourists who have visited.
We finished the day with a visit to Joshua Tree National Park. With temperatures pushing 115 degrees, we opted to drive through the park instead of hike.
We left 29 Palms (Joshua Tree National Park) and made our way back to Amboy, where we saw the remains of Roy's Motel Cafe.
We then continued on route 66 before taking another side trip to the Mojave Desert National Preserve. Temperature's were in the 100s, so we drove through the park. We also stopped at Kelso StationMeer informatie
This morning we went to the Powerhouse Route 66 Museum in Kingman. It provided power to the area prior to the opening of the Hoover Dam in the 1930s. We saw displays on the history of the area, asMeer informatie
