Pura vida!
Die positive Lebenseinstellung der Ticos (der Einwohner von CR) schwappt auch auf die miesgrämigen, sorgenvollen Europäer über. Die Sonne, die Tiere, die Pflanzen, die Menschen - alles lacht einen an. Da kommt die gute Laune automatisch. Und rechtfertigt auch den Namen Costa Rica = Reiche Küste.
Das Land hat schon sehr früh den Umweltschutz verstanden und umgesetzt. Riesige Flächen wurden geschützt und damit vor Abholzung bewahrt und Tiere vor dem Aussterben bewahrt. Ergebnis ist, dass man heute vom Tourismus gut leben kann (der trotzdem nicht ausufert). Fast die gesamte Energieversorgung Costa Ricas läuft über Wasser- und Windkraft. Man verkauft sogar Windenergie an 4 umliegende Staaten. Die Leute haben verstanden, wie es geht.
Es gibt nur einen Tunnel im ganzen Land, 400m lang. Daher kann man die unglaublich grüne und hügelige Landschaft die restliche Zeit auf endlosen Serpentinenstraßen mit erstaunlich grossen Schlaglöchern bewundern. Also der Fahrer jetzt nicht so.
Man kommt durch viele kleine Ortschaften, grosse Städte gibts eher selten. Aber jedes noch so kleine Dorf hat 2 Dinge: eine Schule und eine medizinische Versorgung. Costa Rica hat KEIN eigenes Militär. Das Geld stecken sie stattdessen in die Bildung und haben eine Analphabetenrate von fast 0%. Hut ab! (Mal von Nicuraga überfallen, haben sie sich an die Weltgemeinschaft gewandt und Nicaragua zog wieder ab. Manchmal klappt das also.)
Das Wetter ist trotz Regenzeit super gewesen. Grundregel: Vormittags Sonne, ab 14 Uhr Regen. Hatte aber immer das Glück, dass meine Tagesaktivitäten schon vorbei waren, wenn es dann abends doch anfing. Abgesehen davon gibt es keine Regeln für das Wetter. Die Ticos sagen, Wetter kommt halt, wie und wann es kommt, man weiss es nicht, also lassen wir uns überraschen.
Überascht sind viele Touristen auch von den Preisen. So hoch oder höher als in Deutschland. Da gab es schon dokumentierte Szenen an Supermarktkassen ob des Bierpreises (Fremdschäm 🤦🏼‍♀️)… Ich orientiere mich ja stattdessen an den Schokoladenpreisen. Gut, 8 Euro teilweise für eine kleine Packung M&M‘s oder 10 Euro für eine inländische Schokolade waren mir dann (meistens) auch zu viel. Aber niemand hat gesagt, dass im Paradies alles perfekt wäre. 🤣
Das Obst ist ausserdem eine Wucht. Die beste Ananas hab ich hier gegessen. Melone, Papaya und Ananas stehen quasi bei jeder Gelegenheit am Tisch. Bananen, Ananas, Kaffee, Wassermelonen und Zierpflanzen sind führend im Export auf dem Sektor.
Dafür kriegt man einen Mietwagen für 40 Euro am Tag und Sprit kostet nur 1,50 Euro. Und man fühlt sich sicher.
Also, hat man 2-3 Wochen Zeit und ist nicht auf Billigurlaub aus, kann man hier einen super schönen Urlaub verbringen.

The positive attitude of the Ticos (the inhabitants of CR) also spills over into the moody, worried Europeans. The sun, the animals, the plants, the people - everything smiles at you. Good mood is guaranteed. And also justifies the name Costa Rica = Rich Coast.
The country understood and implemented environmental protection very early on. Huge areas were protected and thus saved from deforestation and animals saved from extinction. The result is that today you can make a good living from tourism (which is still not getting out of hand). Almost all of Costa Rica's energy supply comes from water and wind power. They even sell wind energy to 4 surrounding states. People understood how to do it.
There is only one tunnel in the whole country, 400m long. Therefore you can admire the incredibly green and hilly landscape the rest of the time on endless serpentine roads with surprisingly large potholes. Well, the driver now not so much indeed.
You come through many small towns, big cities are rare. But every village, no matter how small, has 2 things: a school and medical care. Costa Rica does NOT have its own military. Instead, they put the money into education and have an illiteracy rate of almost 0%. Hats off! (Once attacked by Nicuraga, they appealed to the world community and Nicaragua left. So sometimes it works.)
Despite the rainy season, the weather was great. Basic rule: Sun in the morning, rain from 2 p.m. But I was always lucky that my daytime activities were already over when it started in the evening. Other than that, there are no rules about the weather. The Ticos say the weather will come, how and when it will come, you don't know, so we'll let ourselves be surprised.
Many tourists are also surprised by the prices. As high or higher than in Germany. There were already documented scenes at supermarket checkouts about the price of beer (foreign shame 🤦🏼‍♀️)... Instead, I orient myself on the chocolate prices. Well, 8 euros sometimes for a small pack of M&M's or 10 euros for a domestic chocolate were (mostly) too much for me. But no one said everything would be perfect in paradise. 🤣
The fruit is also awesome. I ate the best pineapple here. Melons, papayas and pineapples are at the table at almost every opportunity. Bananas, pineapples, coffee, watermelons and ornamental plants are leading exports in the sector.
You can rent a car for 40 euros a day and fuel only costs 1.50 euros. And you feel safe.
So, if you have 2-3 weeks and are not looking for a super cheap holiday, you can spend a extremely nice holiday here.Baca lagi
