      Taipei - Musée du Palais

      4 maja, Tajwan ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

      Taipei Day 5

      27 marca, Tajwan ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Had Fu Hang soy milk for breakfast, it was about 40 mins wait before we eventually got up the stairs into the food court-like area to order and eat. The salty soy milk with spring onions was weird, the soy milk and everything else was regular. The yu tiao was nice and crunchy.
We then took a bus to Liberty Square and on the way there we stopped by at Nanmen market where we bought some jerky, Floss and sweets.
We walked Liberty Square, pass the arch, into the Arts buildings and saw the changing of the guards at Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall. We stopped by the pond to have the snacks and had an isotonic drink called Super Supao from a vending machine, wtf.
Then took a train and bus to Shilin and on to the National Palace Museum. In the train we were falling asleep so we had bottled coffee from 7-11.
National Palace Museum had some really cool pieces from China, from the BC era til the mid 1900s. Some really intricate and delicate workmanship and curio artefacts. The carving and polishing of some of the material is just mind blowing, like the Jade Cabbage, meat piece, multi layered carved ivory ball, carved fruit and olive pits, hair pieces and decorations, sandalwood carved furniture and screens. Too many to list.
Afterwards went to Shilin Night Market for dinner and had corn and Sausage dog, grilled chicken thighs, large meatball dumpling, green mango, grilled Sausage, papaya milk.
We then went to TaipeiEye to watch a stage petrormance of Monkey King and Monk Tang vs Rat Spirit. Captivating entertainment. They also let us wear robes ala noble style for pictures, and then pictures with the performers.
After a long day we returned to the hotel, but not before grabbing hot dogs from Mos burger and drinks from 7-11.

      Typhoon and hotsprings

      5 października 2023, Tajwan ⋅ 🌬 29 °C

Had to leave Hsieh and the family early as the typhoon meant basically lockdown in South Taiwan 😓, so he stuck me back on the train to Taipei so I could enjoy sightseeing and actually catch my flight!
So unplanned day trip to an area called Beitou where there are natural hot springs and several museums...
Just had a ganda around for a bit, including the thermal valley where I bumped into Silvia (Taiwanese but lives in Aus) and Orna (from Isreal) while burning the back of my legs on some hot seats (I didn't realise they were hot in my defence)...
We went to a local foot spa to chill with feet in hot water, and quiz Silvia on how to get to various locations (honestly, she was so patient with us!) before going for dumplings.
Went to the hot springs museum before saying goodbye to Silvia (honestly, she could have a career change and become a tour guide!), and Orna and I jumped into the public hot springs for a soak in the rain... very hot, but relaxing!

Yangmingshan park & Betiou hot springs

      9 listopada 2019, Tajwan ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Morning hike to the top of Mt Quxing. Great hike although probably took longer to get to the start, as missed the bus stop. The hike up is concrete steps which is hard on the legs but it's an interesting route through tall grasses on the mountain side and then a bamboo forest with the path carved through it. I had to wear all my layers and I was still cold - no views from the top due to swirling fog! I head back down and caught the bus to Betiou hot springs. The town has a large turquoise thermal pond and more hotels than you can count but we took the local option and headed the public thermal baths. They were hot (I didn't make it into the 45C pool) and freezing and the locals made sure we totally submerged ourselves in the cold pools! Czytaj więcej

Taipei Day 4 - Yangmingshan NP

      26 marca, Tajwan ⋅ 🌬 19 °C

Had breakfast at a sandwich shop - kimchi, beef and cheese sandwich, peanut butter sandwich and pork fillet and egg sandwich.
Took bus to Yangmingshan NP and saw rows of cherry blossom, caila lily walking trail, flower clock, a pavilion covered with wysteria, azalea and camellia garden and more.
With the weather being crappy, we ducked into a Chinese restaurant and had lunch of stir fry mushrooms and steaming hot clam & chicken soup.
Didn't manage to go to a few of the sites as the bus times were very off and weather was cloudy, foggy and drizzling.
We took the bus back to Taipei and then went to local shop for noodles and weird side dishes.
On the way back to the hotel we had a foot and shoulder massage, and rejuvenated we walked to Ximen to see if there were dance performances happening for entertainment purposes but unfortunately not. We did see a girl with a wedgie for a pants. Bought brown sugar milk pearl drink for the wall back to the hotel.

      Taipei

      16 września 2022, Tajwan ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

      Taipei

      ###### english ######

Several hours are not enough. You almost have to be happy if you can't read the Chinese script and therefore only look at the books, scrolls and calligraphy departments briefly. With hundreds of thousands (!) of exhibits, it's easy to get your head spinning.

Wonderful museum, especially for those who appreciate porcelain and craftsmanship of all kinds.

      National Palace Museum

      11 listopada 2019, Tajwan ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Last day! Packed up and stowed our luggage at train station before heading to the National Palace Museum. One of the most visited museums in the world. The museum was started to safely store the Chinese artefacts of the Forbidden City, so the focus is art and artefacts from the great Chinese dynasties Lots of beautifully made items in all mediums some of it dating back to 200ad. The two most popular items are a jade stone carved into the shape of a Chinese cabbage and the other a polished stone which looks like a piece of pork belly. Not sure why they're so popular but it is a nation of food lovers! After the museum there was just time for a final bubble tea before heading to the airport. Czytaj więcej

Termas de Xinbeitou + Elephant mountain

      11 sierpnia 2019, Tajwan ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Un show.

Day 6: The Longest Day EVER!

      12 stycznia 2018, Tajwan ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

      Hello Everyone!

It was a very long day today.
Firstly, we introduced Australian festivals to the Kaiping students. We organised a few activities , from teaching them how to sing Australian Jingle Bells and how to speak "Australian", to how to play Australian Rules Football using a netball(because there are no Aussie footballs in Taiwan, we had to use a netball). The activities were a success, we couldn't stop laughing!

Before we broke the school windows, a few students left with us for Shi Dong market. We ate Japanese cuisine for lunch then we were left to explore. A fellow student, Medusa, accompanied me and we had a "knife massage" together! A knife massage is where knives are used to massage around the back, neck and shoulders. Before we got the massage we were a bit afraid, but afterwards we felt very comfortable. Medusa also taught me a lot of flower names in Chinese. I especially liked the Lan Hua, Taiwan's national flower.
Afterwards we went to the National Palace Museum, but before we went in we went discovered the Mummy exhibit. Yes! We went to see the British Museum's Mummy exhibit in Taiwan! Both museums were very interesting, the National Palace Museum's most famous exhibit was a jade cabbage, called "Jadeite Cabbage With Insects".

This day still isn't over! In the evening we went to the Shi Lin night market, ate a lot of small snacks and played some small carnival games. We ate fried chicken cutlet, spring onion pancake, Taiwanese sausage, oyster omelette, fish ball soup, papaya milk, carrot juice and roast mushroom. We also played a lot of games. Fitzie played the best, but after spending a lot of money (400NTD = $17.10), we all won a prize.

We will sleep very well tonight!!
