    Great food in night market

    May 21 in Thailand

After driving by taxi to our hostel, the students had dinner in a fantastic little night market. Everything is so cheap and delicious. Dishes include curried crab, pad Thai noodles, noodle soup bowls, chicken skewers with peanut sauce, green papaya salad, and mango sticky rice.

    Leaving Bangkok

    May 22 in Thailand

We are leaving Bangkok at 7 am en route for Kanchanaburi. I think the students will agree that Bangkok is interesting, but it is hectic, hot, and noisy. We saw a lot of things, but it is time to move on to a more peaceful setting. Tomorrow will be a great continue to check the journal.

    Funky hostel

    May 21 in Thailand

We are staying at a small hostel Just down the street from the night market. It has a lot of character, but I just learned that in a few weeks it will be shut down. I have a feeling that the owner is selling to a developer.

    May 22 in Thailand

A person could get lost exploring the alleys filled with wholesale vendors in Chinatown. Students were given time to explore, and they had to take a picture of one interesting thing-person, place, etc. for a sharing session. I could eat my way through Chinatown...coconut pancakes, egg rolls, dumplings, steamed buns.Read more

    Royal Palace and Wats

    May 22 in Thailand

Our first stop today was the royal palace. As you can see, the detail is incredible and upkeep must cost a fortune. In one picture you see the reclining Buddha, the third largest in Thailand. There was rain today, and that cooled things off tremendously.

The fresh vegetables are incredible. The market we visited is open 24 hours. There were so many people sorting peppers, washing produce, and hauling large baskets of delicious fresh foods. The flowers were being strung into garlands for offerings to Buddha and spirits. The smell was fantastic.

    Bangkok Sukhumvit

    December 30, 2017 in Thailand

    Mal sehen, was morgen wird....

    Happy New Year 2018

Happy New Year🌠 2018 - 12 Monate gemeinsam reisen...wir erfüllen uns unseren Traum....

    January 3 in Thailand

Staying at the Doubletree Hilton with Megan and Glenna in an adjoining room. Glenna is very dehydrated AND sunburnt AND has many mosquito bites so she is sleeping and drinking water with rehydration salts. Meg and the parents headed over to Siam Mall for people watching and coffee. Very upscale and fashionable with all of the Christmas decorations still up.

There’s a good expatriate restaurant/bar across the street with live music (80s cover music), very inviting, so takeout for dinner. Great food!!!

We split into 2 pairs today with Dale and Meg heading for the the Grand Palace and reclining Buddha and Glenna and I going low key at the hotel as she recuperates from her various maladies.

The pool area was wonderful with cabanas to lay in and recliners in the pool. Heaven....

But also interesting is all the construction underway across Bangkok. Sukhumvit is booming with new luxury condos, nightlife, restaurants. More about a favorite in an upcoming posting.Read more
