    Wineyard, Mendoza

    I was very disappointed by the city, Mendoza. Very dirty, no nice restaurants, nothing. But when I arrived at the vineyard region I knew why everyone goes to Mendoza. Just great here. You rent a bike for a day and then you ride from one bodega to the next one for winetasting. First you get a tour at the bodega before they tell you something about the wine and you taste it, then you go to the next bodega. Thats what you do all day here and you get to know the different wine here around. One of the best wine known all over the world. Some people I met in Mendoza were doing the winetasting for a week, unfortunatly I had to leave again after a great day in the vineyard. But I will be back :-)Leer más

    Nach einer weiteren längeren Busreise bin ich in Buenos Aires angekommen. Eine unglaublich vielfältige Stadt mit freundlichen Leuten, vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten und dem allerbesten Fleisch auf der Welt. Am Samstag Abend spielte dann noch Boca Juniors, was für jeden Fussballfan ein Highlight in der Stadt ist.Leer más

    Tigre, Boca en Buenos Aires

    After 3 months apart I finally met Selina again in Buenos Aires where we started our travel adventure together. The city offers you a great variety of sight seeings. We visited Boca, the poorest part of Buenos Aires, known as a colorful part of the city with a lot of tango shows and the birthplace of Diego Maradona.
    A day later we took the train to Tigre. A nice suburb where we chilled out at the river and even took a river cruise where we got learn much more about the region.
    Obviously we also enjoyed the great restaurants with the best wine and best meat. Not in a backpacker style we had this Airbnb apartment with a amazing view over the city. But after 4 relaxing, though also very impressive days in this city we took our backpacks to make us on our way to Iguazu waterfalls. Unfortunatly there was a country-wide strike, so we had to stay another night until a bus took us on a 18 hours ride up to the nature spectacle in Iguazu.    Leer más

    Cataratas del Iguazu I

    It is one of the biggest nature spectacle in the world... Iguazu waterfalls! We planned to do one day in the national park in Argentina and one day in Brasil. But due to the strikes in Argentina we arrived one day later than planed and had only one full day in Puerto Iguazu. So we decided to skip Brasil and enjoy the whole day on the Argentinian side. We arrived early in the morning, entering the park felt like being at a rollercoaster park. But after a 30min walk we made it to the forest with the first small waterfalls. Already amazing. But when we discovered the Iguazu waterfalls we were totally speechless. I ve never seen such a nature phenomena. It is so impressive when you see the amount of water crushing down the waterfalls. By the way, Iguazu are the biggest but not highest waterfalls in the world.
    After we walked around for 3 hours we took a boat trip to get closer to the waterfalls. We expected to get a bit wet but not that we ride underneath a few waterfalls. It was funny, that also explained why other people were only wearing their swimmers. We didnt and were totally soaked. Anyway it was warm enough and we kept going to check out all the different fantastic views with different waterfalls in the background.    Leer más

    Salar de Uyuni - Dia I

    In Salta entschieden wir uns nicht direkt nach Bolivien zu gehen, sondern von Chile einen mehrtägigen Trip durch die Salzwüste nach Bolivien zu machen. So war ich nach 4 Wochen wieder zurück in San Pedro de Atacama, was ja aber nicht schlecht war, da ich so bereits alle guten Restaurants und Bars kannte. Für die Anklimatisierung (San Pedro liegt auf 2600m) wollten wir vor dem Trip nach Uyuni (bis 5000m) zwei Nächte in San Pedro bleiben. Doch die Reise von Salta über zwei Passhöhen bis zu 5000m nach Chile strapazierte den Körper bereits ziemlich heftig... Hallo Kopfschmerzen. Und mit den Strapazen ging es gleich weiter: Wie sollen wir von den unzähligen Touranbietern den richtigen auswählen, wenn alle mit den gleichen Worten á la "mejor Tour" prahlen. Gut, dann nahmen wir halt das Auswahlkriterium "inkl. english-guide", wobei wir schnell feststellen mussten, dass es nur spanisch und französischsprachige (!) (wieso weiss niemand) angeboten wurde. Nach den zwei Nächten ging dann aber die Reise los, wobei am ersten Tag viel Geduld gefragt war. Die Aus- bzw. Einreise von Chile nach Bolivien dauerte sehr lange. An der Grenze stiegen wir dann auf einen 4WD Jeep um und die Reise konnte nun wirklich losgehen und es erwarteten uns bereits erste Highlights: weisse und grüne Lagunen vor dem Vulkan Lincancabur (6000m), Geysers mit dampfendem Wasser aus dem Innern des Vulkangesteins oder auch natürliche Thermalbäder zum Relaxen. Am Abend kamen wir dann bei einer roten Lagune an, wo wir über 30'000 Flamingos bestaunen konnten.Leer más

    Salar de Uyuni - Dia II

    14 de abril de 2017, Bolivia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

    Um 8.00 gings bereits wieder los und unser Guide, Jorge, wollte auch heute das Wüsten-Rennen gegen seine Kollegen anführen. So waren wir natürlich auch die ersten, die in der Iiloli Wüste ankamen. Dort konnten wir verschiedenste, eindrückliche Steinformen bestaunen, die durch die Winderosionen enstanden sind. Mit "vamos, vamos" von Jorge ging es dann aber schnell weiter zu den farbigen Lagunen "Honda", "Chiarkota" und "Cañapa". Dort entdeckten wir ein Fussballfeld mit einer einzigartigen Kulisse. Das Feld konnte jedoch nur dank den trinkfreudigen Einwohnern mit leeren Weinflaschen abgesteckt werden. Und die Flamingos auf der Lagune können als Zuschauer dazugezählt werden. Leider fehlte uns einen Ball, wodurch wir dann mit unserem Jeep weiterzogen Richtung San Juan - dem Anfang der Salzwüste von Uyuni.Leer más

    Salar de Uyuni - Dia III

    Es war 4.30 AM und um 4.45 AM wollte Jorge bereits mit seiner 6-köpfigen Bande startklar sein. Es stand wohl einer der schönsten Sonnenaufgänge überhaupt auf dem Programm.. mhm auch ein "romantischer" Teil war in der Tour inbegriffen 🙄
    Für eine Wüste war um diese Uhrzeit bereits sehr viel Betrieb, ca. 10 andere Jeeps folgten uns, die aber Jorge mit diversen Manövern versuchte abzuschütteln. Und so waren wir wieder alleine in der Dürrenwüste, die dann langsam zu einer Salzwüste wurde mit einer Wasserschicht obendrauf. und dort stiegen wir auch aus und trauten unseren Augen kaum. In der endlosen Wüste mit den herrlichen Farben am Himmel und der fast schon kitschigen Spiegelung auf dem Boden. Wir hatten das Glück, dass zu dieser Zeit gerade die Regenzeit vorbei war und wir so zum einen die nasse sowie auch die trockene Wüste bestaunen konnten. Nach dem Sonnenaufgang ging es dann mit Höchstgeschwindigkeit auf der flachen Ebene (hier würde ich auch mal gerne ein paar Testfahrten machen) ging es dann zur Kaktusinsel zum gemütlichen Frühstück. Unglaublich aber wahr, rutschte der eine Kollege im dümmsten Moment aus und landete direkt im Kaktusfeld, was ziemlich schmerzhaft aussah. Nach diesem Zwischenfall ging es dann weiter zum trockenen Teil der Wüste, wo dann die obligaten Fotos in der Salzwüste nicht fehlen durften. Mit einem Mittagessen in Uyuni ging unsere eindrückliche Tour zu Ende. Da die Stadt, abgesehen eines verrosteten "Zugfriedhofs" nichts zu bieten hat, buchten wir am Abend gleich den Bus weiter nach La Paz, wo einiges wieder auf dem Programm stand.    Leer más

    Death Road en La Paz

    Es ist imposant wie die Häuser in die Berge der grössten Stadt Boliviens gebaut wurden. La Paz ist bestimmt nicht die sauberste Stadt, liegt jedoch perfekt für diverse Aktivitäten. Mit grosser Freude entdeckten wir am ersten Tag ein englisches Pub mit gutem Essen und gutem Bier. Wie es sein musste, waren an den folgenden Tagen noch die Champions League Partien, wodurch wir unseren Aufenthalt noch deutlich verlängern mussten.
    Am spielfreien Tag entschieden wir uns jedoch mit Mountainbikes die "death road", die gefährlichste Strasse der Welt hinunter zu donnern. Man startet früh am Morgen auf eiskalten 4800m und fährt über 65km in den Jungle auf 1300m. Eine eindrückliche, aber nicht ungefährliche Fahrt durch die Schlucht, wo sich früher Autos frontal begegnet sind. Teilweise ist die Strasse gerade mal 3,5m breit und europäische Sicherheitsmassnahmen wie Leitplanken sind hier auch nicht bekannt. Neben der Strasse geht es bis zu 600m senkrecht die Schlucht hinunter, wo vor allem früher viele Einheimische (und auch heute noch einige Touristen) ihr Leben verloren. Vor 10 Jahren konnte eine neue Strasse gebaut werden, wodurch heute die Strasse mehrheitlich nur noch von Mountainbikes befahren wird. Trotz eines Sturzes von Selina kamen wir unverletzt unten an und genossen in der Gruppe das wohlverdiente Bier. Ein cooles Abenteuer in der imposanten Natur.    Leer más

    Copacabana y lago Titicaca

    After the busy city La Paz we enjoyed a few days at the Titicaca lake, 4 hours from La Paz. Copacabana is a very small town with a lot of coffee shops and good restaurants. During the day it is sunny and warm whereas it gets very cold during the night.     Isla del Sol

    Von Copacabana aus machten wir per Boot einen Tagestrip auf die bekannte Isla del Sol, die Geburtsstätte der Inkas. Die zunehmend touristische Insel hat einige alte "Schätze" zu bieten. Wir besichtigten einige Ruinen, die heiligen Treppen der Inkas, die Quellen der Inkas und genossen den Tag mit herrlicher Aussicht auf den Titicacasee.
    Am nächsten Morgen war es dann soweit das eindrückliche Bolivien hinter uns zu lassen und weiter nach Peru zu ziehen.    Leer más

    Puno, Peru

    Arrived in Puno we straight went on our first tour, because we did not want to stay in Puno for long as it is similar to Copacabana, just on the other side of the Titicaca lake. A boat took us to the floating island made and rebuild every now and then by the local people living on the island. It was impressive to see the creation and especially to meet some local women and their culture.Leer más

    Arequipa

    Arequipa ist die 2. grösste, jedoch vermutlich die schönste Stadt in Peru. Wir waren überrascht über die Sauberkeit, die gemütlichen Restaurants und schönen Kaffees in der Innenstadt. Da wir noch einiges auf unserer "Todo"-Liste hatten, konnten wir leider nur eine Nacht bleiben. Der Cañon, gleich in der Nähe, muss atemberaubend sein und werden wir auf unserer nächsten Reise dann bestaunen :-)
    An unserem einzigen Tag in Arequipa schlenderten wir durch die Innenstadt und buchten eine 3 stündige Tour rund um die Stadt. Dabei zeigten sie uns die berühmten Kathedralen, die besten Aussichtspunkte mit den dominanten Vulkanen im Hintergrund und eine Lamazucht mit der Kleiderproduktion gleich nebenan. Selina dachte das Lama sei ihr neuer Freund. Naja, mit einer gnadenlosen Spuckattack machte er sein Interesse deutlich.    Leer más

    Huacachina, Tour del pisco y vino

    Huacachina ist eine kleine Oase umgeben von riesigen Dünen perfekt zum relaxen oder sandboarden, was natürlich viele Backpackers anlockt. Da der erste Tag ein wenig bewölkt war, machten wir eine Pisco-tasting Tour. Mit einer Holländerin und einem sehr unterhaltsamen Guide waren wir lediglich zu viert auf dieser Tour. Die Gegend ist bekannt für den besten Pisco, den man üblicherweise mit Lemonade als "pisco sour" trinkt. Wir haben uns gedacht, dass wir lediglich eine Bodega besuchen. Aus diesem Grund haben wir dort auch gerne alle 20 Flasche mit verschiedenen Pisco Variationen durchprobiert. Als "Abschluss" bestellten wir dazu noch den originalen Pisco Sour. Schon etwas angeheitert erklärte uns anschliessend unser Guide lachend, dass wir noch 2 weitere Bodegas mit demselben Programm besuchen werden. Die 3. Bodega war jedoch die beste... die produzierten Pisco waren noch nicht in Flaschen abgefüllt und wir mussten den Pisco sogar direkt aus den Fässern trinken. War definitiv ein lustiger Nachmittag mit genügend Pisco!Leer más

    Huacachina sandboarding

    Ausgeschlafen und relaxt gingen wir am Nachmittag auf eine Buggy Tour mit Sandboarding. Wir düsten mit dem Buggy durch die Dünen, was sich teilweise wie eine Achterbahn anfühlte. Nach einer halben Stunde hielten wir auf einer grossen Düne an, wo wir sandboarden konnten. Die Stürze von einigen Touristen, die das erste mal auf einem Board standen und sich ein wenig überschätzten, sahen schon von weitem sehr schmerzhaft aus. So cool das Sandboarden in kurzen Hosen und T-Shirt auch ist, der fehlende Skilift macht den Aufstieg zurück auf die Düne zu einem richtigen Konditionstraining. War jedoch eine echt coole Aktivität. Plus war die Kulisse mit dem Sonnenuntergang in den endlosen Dünen einzigartig.

    Lima is a very cool place to visit. We stayed in the part Miraflores where it is a bit safer and more modern than other parts. But the city in general has so much to offer. We did a 3 hour tour through the city where we could see different parts, the coast and important buildings like the Parlament house. Though the city is also known as the gourmet temple of South America as it has very nice food to offer. People told us that close where we stayed there was the best restaurant in whole South America. Unfortunatly you have to reserve a table 3 months in advance... so we could not go ;-). We picked another nice restaurant to try the traditional Peruian food called "Cebiche". Delicious!
    After 3 days in Lima we took a night bus up to the border to Ecuador, a surf place called Mancora.    Leer más

    Mancora

    Mancora ist ein beliebter Ort an der Küste um zu relaxen, zu surfen und in den Strandbars während dem Sonnenuntergang ein Bier zu trinken. Genau dies haben wir auch gemacht. Eigentlich wollten wir einige Tag bleiben um zu kitesurfen, doch leider liess uns der Wind im Stich. Mit lokalen Kitesurfern fuhren wir sogar 20min entlang der Küste, wo normalerweise perfekte Verhältnisse vorzufinden sind. Doch während der momentanen Vorsaison war auch dort kein Wind zu spüren. Schade, wir konnten so jedoch die Umgebung ein wenig erkunden und genossen dann den Tag am Strand. Nach 3 Tagen nahmen wir den Nachtbus Richtung Guayaquil (Ecuador), wo wir hofften noch ein gutes last-minute Angebot für eine Tour auf die Galapagos Inseln zu finden.Leer más

    Guayaquil

    Guayaquil ist nach Quito der beste Ort um per Flugzeug auf die Galapagos zu gelangen. Die grösste Stadt in Ecuador hat nicht alzu viel zu bieten. Lediglich die Promenade an der Küste ist noch schön. Unser Ziel war jedoch sowieso nur ein gutes Angebot für einen Trip auf die Galapagos zu finden, was uns schlussendlich auch gelang. Die Preise für eine kurze Reise auf die spektakulären Inseln sind unglaublich hoch - so kann man für wenige Tage bereits mehrere Tausend Franken bezahlen. Wir haben uns dann aber gegen ein Boot-Cruise entschieden und buchten das Insel-Hopping, wo man auf den Inseln schläft und von dort aus mit dem Boot Tagesausflüge macht. Im Nachhinein definitiv die richtige Entscheidung.
    Leider hatten wir beide in Guayaquil irgendetwas falsches gegessen uns so einen Virus eingefangen, wodurch wir in Guayaquil völlig flach lagen. Nach 2 Tagen waren wir jedoch wieder mehr oder weniger fit und wir konnten unser Abenteuer auf die Galapagos beginnen.    Leer más

    Galapagos - dia I

    After a short flight where (they even sprayed the plane to protect the nature of the Galapagos) we arrived in Baltra on the Santa Cruz Island. A guide picked us up and took us to the Puerto Ayora. Already now you could tell the difference of the nature and its wildlife you will not find anywhere else in this world. Sometimes it seemed like the animales are more curious about us humans than the other way around. This nature is just incredible.
    From Puerto Ayora we had a 2 hours boat ride on the open ocean, which was definitly not the best thing for my stomach that still was not well yet. But I survived. After the transfer we checked in at our hotel and had our first trip on our schedule. Just 5 min from our hotel was a big lagoon with many flamingos. Compared to the flamingos in Salar de Uyuni the flamingos here were more colorful and had kind of a neon pink. Amazing! Afterwards we walked to the beach where our guide showed us the small village with only 2000 inhabitants.    Leer más

    Galapagos - dia II

    The plan on day 2 was to go on a hike up to the Sierra Negra vulcano. A great trip to see the fauna and flora on this island. Unfortunatly I felt really sick during the night and was not able to do the hike. There was a hospital on the island, but it is closed on Saturday and Sunday. Guess what, it was Saturday. But after skipping the morning program we were ready (more or less) for the animals in the afternoon. On the way to Concha Perla we found some relaxing sealions and iguanas. The interesting thing on the Galapagos is that the animals do not care about you as long as you do not disturb them. At the Concha Perla we did some snorkeling and were able to swim with sea lions and a variety of colorful fish. We even found some sharks in the water. Impressive nature!Leer más

    Galapagos - dia III

    7 de mayo de 2017, Ecuador ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

    In the morning we took a speedboat to the Tintoreras Islet, an island that got its name from the white tipped fine Tintoreras sharks that alway stay around the island. An incredible place. Besides the impressive sharks we were able to see sea lions, marine iguanas, the funny looking blue-footed boobies, sally lightfood crabs, big sea turtles, pelicans and Galapagos penguins. After the hike on the island we went snorkeling to cool off a bit. Similar to the scenes the day before we were able to find many sea lions that even seemed like wanting to play with us. Fascinating how they swam up very close to us.
    In the afternoon we visited the Giant Tortoise Breeding Center where we could observe different species of giant tortoise. The center has successfully bred and raised the giant tortoise to preserve many endangered subspecies. After the short visit we went for a bushwalk to find the big animales in their natural environment. Especially the size of these creatures is impressive and is only found on the Galapagos islands.     Galapagos - dia IV

    At 6.00 in the morning we took the boat again to transfer 2 hours to the island we originally started our trip on the Galapagos. Lucky I felt better this time. Back on the island Santa Cruz our first trip lead us to the highlands. We had the unforgettable opportunity to observe about 20 giant tortoises in their natural environment. As it is at the moment low season on the Galapagos we were a group of only 4 persons and our guide. In the age of 65 our guide has done this tour so many times and still organises this tour every day. He has even given names to some of the tortoises. And when we arrived you could even see that he has built up a relationship with the big creatures. It was amazing.
    Back in town for lunch we walked into the fish market - funny scenes there. The fresh fish was prepared and sold straight at the pier. But not as usual there was a big audience of pelicans and sea lions waiting either for the waste of the fish during the preparation or a moment where the people do not pay attention and steal a fresh fish. It was a great show at the pier :-)
    In the afternoon we visited Charles Darwin's research center where we could learn a lot about the ongoing conversation efforts directed towards preserving the Giant Tortoises, as well as the natural environment of the archipelago as a whole.
    After a long day with a lot of new adventures we decided to go for a walk at the pier in Puerto Ayora, a small but very nice village with good restaurants. At the pier we had the chance to observe about 50 baby hammersharks that come close to the peer every night to look for food. Great scenes.    Leer más

    Galapagos - dia V

    This day lead us to the North Seymour island. An island with an incredible variety of bird species. We had the chance to see different animals like the Galapagos finches, bird wizards, iguanas and also the breeding nests of sea turtles on the beach. The island is especially famous for its amount of the blue-footed boobies. As it was breeding season it was funny to observe the males dancing to impress the females. Some of the female even already had their (1-3) eggs and were protecing them from other birds or the iguanas. After a hike around the island we went snorkeling. We saw many different colorful fish, big sea turtles, manta rays and even discovered some baby hammersharks. An incredible place to see animals in their natural environment.
    In the evening we went to the pier again, found some sea lions close by the water and went for dinner afterwards to end our trip on the Galapagos. It was a great nature spectacle on those islands.    Leer más
