Out and about today, first off into southampton and had a wander around and then headed to the Tudor House, what an amazing place it was a wonderful way to see history and the way people lived around 1500 AD and stone work eg chimneys from 1200AD how truly amazing.
We then went to Fort Nelson in Portsmouth, the sheer size of the place and the guns are amazing, we also went through the tunnels which are massive. we spent the day with Jamie, Emma and the 3 kids , makes for a busy day. ,

      Morning in Southampton

      June 2, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

We wake in our cozy little cubicle to the sounds of church bells close by and by party revellers of the night gone by. There of course is traffic noise that is somewhat soothing. We are sipping a cup of coffee preparing for the next adventure that befalls us.
As we ready ourselves the wonderful aroma of our breakfast being prepared finds its way upstairs. We are new people today. No longer itinerant travellers seeking shelter where we can find it. We are the sheltered, who will be entertained and waited upon. It is easier to write about hard times than a pampered life. Hard times are a more interesting story. We’ll see how this develops.
Our new status means we are taking a cab to the boat.

    • Day 40

      Southampton, United Kingdom

      September 11, 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Our private tour included visiting the important historical sights of Southampton with its many memorials. We went to the SeaCity Museum’s Titanic exhibit.
We then drove out to the New Forest, an open area of 220 miles where wild horses, cows, and donkeys roam free. These animals came right next to our car. The residents here are called commoners and live in beautiful thatched roof houses that are very far apart.
The visit to this most unique area was enhanced by our guide who was an expert on life in the New Forest.

      Silversea Gala

      September 11, 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

When we booked our multi-segment voyage, we had to get special permission for this “one day cruise” that never left Southampton. Regular passengers disembarked. Media, travel agents and special guests embarked. It was the first time that the Silver Muse docked in Southampton. It was also the birthday of the owner who brought aboard his friends for the night. Us and 33 other in transit passengers were invited to the festivities.
Rose set a trend at the bar with her French Martini.

      Ms Marina

      June 2, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Our boarding was 12 noon. We came at 11 hoping to avoid some crowds. We did, however there were a couple hundred with the same thought. Everything went smooth, check in, security and finally boarding. We checked out the ship, pretty nice. Now we make our way to the restaurant for lunch.

Well it is 5pm and we are off....wait a minute we have gone back to dock!
In the mean time our room is lovely And we are settled in enjoying a beverage and cheese plate.

I like it when there are problems with an operation that isn’t my responsibility. According to the Captain, the wind is too strong to leave the dock, although he did try. We now wait for a tugboat to assist our departure. I guess the aviation equivalent would be getting towed back to the gate because the taxiway is too slippery. Oh well it will soon be time for supper.

      Mayflower Cruise Terminal

      July 13, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

The surprise didn’t go as planned but was still a huge success! Knowing Jackson was out in Southampton Ruby and took a taxi to Standing Orders where Jackson and I use to always go for lunch. He however had so much shopping to do that he didn’t have time to go there, so the surprise had to wait for the ship.
Once we got on-board and dropped our stuff off at our cabin we headed down to the bar that he works at called Brodie’s. I walked up behind him and stood there well he was on the phone, waiting for him to turn around when he was done. He however turned around when he was still on the phone and was in complete shock. In his surprise we are pretty sure he hung up on whoever he was on the phone with. When I asked him about it later he doesn’t even remember being on the phone. With Jackson being at work though the real hello had to wait for later but he was walking around from guest to guest with the biggest grin on his face. There were to passengers sitting near Jackson when I surprised him and they really enjoyed watching his reaction as well.
Ruby and I didn’t do much tonight. We went for the sail away party so Ruby could see us set sail. She found it so weird that you could see the ship was moving but not feel it. Then after giving her a tour we headed for dinner at our assigned restaurant, Peninsular. We are trying so hard to stay awake and not go to sleep too early but we are both exhausted. I’m guessing we’ll be sleeping in tomorrow.

      Back in Southampton

      April 11, 2016 in England ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

I have come to really enjoy Southampton. In Europe it's one of the few places I can speak the language and I was even able to play Magic at the University with some great new friends. This is where I stayed while I waited for the team to finish up on the pre-inaugural trip. I was pretty ready to be off ships by now.Read more

      Southampton day 2

      June 13, 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

I am currently sitting on the balcony. It's 7:45 am and the temperature is 54. Perfect!

Last night we had dinner at Wagamama with Heather's friend Andy and his charming wife Jade. After dinner we stopped by the co op for breakfast supplies. The kid found banana milk. He was thrilled.

We also managed to catch the Europa regional exclusive Pokémon Mr. Mime. A definite highlight!!

Today we plan to do the Southampton city wall walk and fund a great pub for lunch.

    • Day 51

      Southampton, UK

      October 20, 2017 in England ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Another weird, emotionally draining day. I had to get up early for work in the morning (6:00am) but got to leave early at 8:30 to get Jackson (the boyfriend) on the ship with a visitor pass I had gotten him. I however had a meeting so I left him to watch a movie in my cabin. The meeting ended up taking almost two hours. So by the time that was done Jackson and I only had an hour before he had to leave for work. He got to see a bit of the ship and say hi to a few friends. After a very sad, tearful goodbye he left in a taxi to head to work. Then I went back on the ship to also say goodbye to a photographer as well who was headed home.

We are now going to be heading across the Atlantic for Caribbean season so I headed into Southampton with my friend Ashton (bar steward) to do some much needed grocery shopping and pick up a few other things. Jackson however knew that I was going into Southampton with Ashton and that we would end up at Standing Orders for some food. So when he found out he was starting an hour later then was originally planned he waited there for us to surprise me. So I got to see him one last time. The next time will be when he joins the ship on February 23rd.

When we were in Standing Orders we got some news. It was up in the air wether either ship would actually sail today as planned. There is a massive storm right in our path with 14 meter swell. So we found out that my ship was now for sure staying but Jackson’s was leaving. They are headed the opposite direction as us so they were going to miss the worst of the storm. Even though we weren’t sailing away from anything the ship still hosted their sail away party on the top deck. I was up there taking photos so I got to see my old ship where Jackson is sail past. My manager had literally told me to forget about the passengers when it was sailing past us that I could go to the front of the ship to see it go past instead. Jackson had told me he was working on the back deck for the sail away but the ship’s were too far apart. The people were the size of ants, so I couldn’t make him out.

My work shift ended with my manager also telling me that I should be emotional more often. Apparently I had managed to up-sell quite a bit tonight.

Then after work most of the team had already gone out in Southampton but I was too exhausted to find them and do anything so Monixa (Photographer) and I had a girls night on the ship instead. She was IPM and couldn’t get off and it’s her New Year’s so we went to one of the restaurants for dinner. I had my usual steak which was amazing as always.

Now I’m completely exhausted so it’s time for some sleep.

      Brighton

      July 31, 2018 in England ⋅ 🌙 18 °C
