After a short break at the hotel and with a new camera battery, I was drawn to another highlight of New York, which I wanted to see in good weather. The Central Park. I took the subway to the northern end and walked from there to the southern end. I have to admit, at first I was a little disappointed. There is a lot of construction going on in the southern part and so you walk long distances past meadows, trees, baseball fields and lakes. After about a quarter there is the first street crossing and behind it is "The Reservoir", the largest lake in the park and the most important fresh water reservoir in the city. The view of the skyline is breathtaking. After the reservoir another road crossing and behind it more baseball fields, more green meadows, more trees, but also more people. From here on life is raging. Everywhere people are playing, singing, laughing, talking, cuddling, kissing, sleeping, and smoking pot. And it is insanely clean despite the many people. I would wish for that in Germany, too. In this section I got lost for the first time and was briefly disoriented, and that's something that strikes me negatively - without a cell phone you're screwed here. There are hardly any signs or signposts. After the extra loop around "The Great Lawn" (an oval meadow full of baseball fields), I went to my highlight, "The Ramble", after the next road crossing at Belvedere Castle. Finally some denser forest, steeper trails, a deliberate maze and the feeling of being in nature. Great. Then the three tourist attractions: the Bethesda Fountain, the Central Park Carousel, and Umpire Rock. So - a fountain besieged by tourists, an ancient carousel hidden in a house, and a big rock from which you can take the best selfies with skyline in the background. Yes, I have then also seen those 😅

Nach einer kurzen Pause im Hotel und mit neuem Kamera-Akku zog es mich zu einem weiteren Höhepunkt von New York, den ich bei gutem Wetter anschauen wollte. Dem Central Park. Ich bin mit der U-Bahn zum nördlichen Ende gefahren und von dort zum südlichen Ende gelaufen. Ich muss gestehen, zu Anfang war ich etwas enttäuscht. Es wird gerade viel gebaut im südlichen Teil und somit läuft man lange Strecken vorbei an Wiesen, Bäumen, Baseballfeldern und Seen. Nach etwa einem Viertel kommt dann die erste Straßenüberquerung und dahinter liegt das "The Reservoir", der größte See im Park und der wichtigste Frischwasserspeicher der Stadt. Der Blick auf die Skyline ist atemberaubend. Nach dem Reservoir wieder eine Straßenüberquerung und dahinter mehr Baseballfelder, mehr grüne Wiesen, mehr Bäume, aber auch mehr Menschen. Ab hier tobt das Leben. Überall wird gespielt, gesungen, gelacht, geredet, gekuschelt, geküsst, geschlafen, und gekifft. Und es ist trotz der vielen Menschen wahnsinnig sauber. Das würde ich mir in Deutschland auch wünschen. In diesem Abschnitt habe ich mich das erste Mal verlaufen und war kurz orientierungslos, und dass ist etwas was mir negativ auffällt - ohne Handy bist du hier aufgeschmissen. Es gibt kaum Schilder oder Wegweiser. Nach der extra Runde um "The Great Lawn" (eine ovale Wiese voller Baseballfeldern), ging es nach der nächsten Straßenüberquerung am Belvedere Castle zu meinem Highlight, dem "The Ramble". Endlich mal etwas dichterer Wald, steilere Wege, ein gewolltes Labyrinth und das Gefühl in der Natur zu sein. Toll. Danach dann die drei touristischen Attraktionen: der Bethesda Fountain, das Central Park Carousel, und der Umpire Rock. Also - ein von Touristen belagerter Springbrunnen, ein uraltes Karussell versteckt in einem Haus, und ein großer Stein, von dem aus man die besten Selfies mit Skyline im Hintergrund machen kann.
