  • Da Nang > Ho Chi Minh

    8 Februari 2023, Vietnam

We checked out of our hotel and got a grab to the taxi. A few things have made me mad at England. 1) The ridiculous costs to drop and pick up at airports. 2) Charging for bags. 3) No water through security. 4) Having to pay to be sat together. So much ridiculousness that's just done here anyway! Tom had a banh mi and I tried to be healthy getting a smoothie but that along with the water and a lemon tea meant my bladder didn't thank me! The plane was a smaller one this time or at least had less space for sure!Baca lagi

  • One Night in Ho Chi Minh City

    8 Februari 2023, Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We spent a night in Ho Chi Minh as part of our visa run to Cambodia. The city was hot! We had an upgrade of our room which didn't feel like an upgrade with a tiny window and a ridiculous bathroom design! We ate some delicious pho and enjoyed a relaxing foot massage! In the evening we found a craft beer cafe for Tom and ended up going over budget by enjoying a pizza from pizza4ps!Baca lagi

Today was the day our visa ran out so we got the bus at 10am to go to Phnom Penh. The bus was comfortable enough and sorted the visa out easily but sneakily add on an extra 10 dollars. The journey ended up taking about 8 hours and Cambodia did not look good on arrival... Rubbish, plastic everywhere!Baca lagi

  • Phnom Penh - Killing fields

    10 Februari 2023, Kemboja ⋅ ⛅ 34 °C

Today we got a tuk tuk with Aron and Rachel to the killing fields. We experiences constant rush hour traffic and more crazy roads! The Killing fields upset me more than I even thought it would. We did the audio tour which guided us around the choeng ku killing fields which were used in the pol pot regime. It showed us where certain buildings were, where graves were, weapons used etc. Pol Pot and his party would build their 'army' by recruiting young children under the age of 17 from the jungle and essentially brainwashing them into murderers. The killing fields were created because they were killing too many people and it was discrete. There was a wooden shed where they would store the prisoners which had no windows, a steel roof and double wooden walls so they could not see each other. They would use the branch from a sugar cane tree to slit their throats along with other weapons. We saw where the mass grave was where 450 bodies were found, a grave where 166 headless bodies were found and there were some under the river who have been left there to rest. The most shocking part for me was the killing tree which makes me sick! 100 women with babies were found here, naked as they were most likely raped. The babies were killing by bashing their heads against the tree and then dumped in the grave. When the killing fields were found, there was blood and brains on the tree. Another tree was used to hang speakers off, so in the night, nobody could hear the screams of the victims. Bone fragments and teeth are still found to this day, along with clothes and rags that surface from the rain. The stupa was build with Buddhism in mind, as a sacred place for these souls. It has 17 tiers and organised into different bones and skulls. These have been analysed to inform gender, how they died and age. Every year there's a memorial service. The most shocking part to me is this was happening 1975-1979!Baca lagi

  • Phnom Penh - S-21

    10 Februari 2023, Kemboja ⋅ 🌙 30 °C

We went to S-21 which has now been turned into a museum. This was somewhat even more upsetting than the killing fields. We paid for the guide, who was a local woman who was 8 at the time of this genecide. She escaped to Vietnam with her mother and 1 sister but her father and brother and sister were murdered. She told us how she wanted to lesnr English so she could be a tour guide to tell people about what happened but she used to cry every day but now she is okay. The prison was once a secondary school, where the classrooms had been turned into prison cells. We first saw the rooms where it was 1 persons cell. These were people who once worked for the regime but Pol Pot was a paranoid man who didn't trust anyone and they would end up dead. He killed for anything, he wanted anyone clever dead and anyone who didn't agree with him but he would make up reasons why they should be dead. We saw the shackles where they would be tied to the metal hospital beds. The once volleyball beams were turned into a torture system where they would tie their hands behind their backs and hang them up and put them in the water jars. We saw prisons cells which had 11 cells in a room. These were build up with cement and brick. Nobody was allowed to talk. There were 20000 prisoners and only 7 survived + 4 children. One of the survivors was an artist, who drew many of the pictures on display to show us his experience such as the water hose into the room as their 'shower' every week. The finals prisons were 16 in a room and separated with wood. They would sleep with their feet in shackles sometimes 20 people in a row. They were tortured beyond belief. There were pictures of the victims everywhere and there were so so many faces, with many young faces in and amongst along with the babies and their mothers. We saw photographs of how some victims were found. There was still blood on the floor from the tortures and the deaths and the rapes. The museum was really informative and provided many documents including from the trials. The sickening this is, none of this was known about universally for another 20 years. By the time there was a trial, Pol Pot was dead at the age of 73 and there were 5 more senior leaders. The man named Duch was one of the main leaders who ran the prison.

Later on, we went for our final meal with Aron and Rachel to a delicious vegan Indian restaurant and had a 'dopa' daal and paratha. We then went to a rooftop bar and enjoyed cocktails before finally parting ways!

  • Ho Chi Minh round 2

    11 Februari 2023, Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Today we got our first sleeper bus back from. Cambodia to vietnam. It took around 7 hours and was comfortable enough but the horn annoyed us! Our hotel is nice but it's our first windowless room! We had an average meal and then headed to the area with lots of bars, which was cray cray! Loud music, people dragging you into their bars and rats under your feet. I realised today that vietnamese women can NOT dance. We enjoyed sitting and watching the madness along with a woman who kept having balloon after balloon. You had to keep hold of your bag here! There were children breathing fire and begging which was hard to see!Baca lagi

  • Cu Chi Tunnels

    12 Februari 2023, Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Today we went on a trip to the Cu Chi tunnels. Our guide Mr Hue first took us to an area that was poisoned during the war and therefore have many handicapped people who now create lots of beautiful crafts. It took about 2 hours to get to the tunnels and we were shown a map which had a key to show the American areas and the Vietnamese. There was a small demonstration to show the different levels of tunnels and the different rooms they had. They dug all these tunnels by hand, and would dig them out together so they would stop and join them up when they got to certain points. We saw a variety of traps that they would make including a tiger trap and an armpit one and a door trap with lots of spikes on. The vietnamese wore sandals which they made. We then had a go at shooting an AK47 which was super expensive (600,000vnd!) for 10 bullets but an experience! It was SOOO loud! We then experienced walking through the tunnels and at one point I was on my hands and knees! My aim was to at least do 20m and managed the whole tunnel, but couldn't stop for pictures and videos like Tom 😂 Tom then went into another small tunnel and experienced how they would get into their tunnels.Baca lagi

  • Best Bahn Mi

    12 Februari 2023, Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Our final night in Ho Chi Minh! We found the best bahn mi not far from our hotel. It had 2 shops which was slightly confusing and no menu, just a price list for how many you get so they're all the same but it was the fullest one we'd have with meats and pate and coriander, cucumber and spring onions. Very very tasty!! We then had a short walk to visit a Buddhist statue of the burning buddha who set himself on fire in protest of the people against the religion of Buddhism.Baca lagi

When we arrived in Da Lat we checked into our first shared hostel! We then walked to Crazy House and had a look around. It was good architecture and clever but it was basically walking up and down lots of stairs. The town itself felt odd, we spend AGES finding somewhere to eat and didn't really know what to make of it but we found some food and got back to the hostel where it was loud and they had karaoke on. We had a few drinks before the young guns got the free shuttle into town.Baca lagi

  • Canyoning

    14 Februari 2023, Vietnam ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

Omg, best day ever! After a dreadful sleep in our first night in the hostel (snoring beasts) we were up early for our adventure day. This was so good, I was very nervous being scared of heights and being under water but it was such a good day and felt safe MOST of the time. Unfortunately our group was bigger than we'd have liked meaning there was lots of waiting around time and a loud, burnt Irish guy. There were 6 activities, the first being an abseil after the practise with a jump at the end. We did this together and I was feeling the nerves on this one and did NOT enjoy the water going up my nose. Next was the zip line, this was good but felt like whiplash when I hit the water. Next was the water slide, first it was forwards and I got so much water in my nose, then we went backwards. The guide told us to relax which I found pretty difficult. The next 2 were my ultimate faves. A 25m Waterfall abseil with a jump backwards from 3 metres up. I was gripping with all my might due to the sheer slippiness but felt a good feeling of accomplishment after! Next up was the scariest for me, the free jump.. Something I've never done but I think being warmed up from the others I just went for it and ended up jumping twice. When I landed in the water it threw me backwards and I had sand everywhere, including inside my gloves! Lastly, the washing machine. This was the scariest for sure as I had no idea what was coming up. You abseiled down for abit but it was more like big steps. Then, you just hung and slid down the rope, but the powerful Waterfall pushes you but I was just in it and felt I had to get out ASAP or I'd drown 😂 At the bottom it pushed you under and he told us not to try to swim which went out my mind as I just wanted to be able to breathe. I felt buzzing after the day and really proud!Baca lagi

  • Mui Ne day 1

    15 Februari 2023, Vietnam

We took a sleeper bus from Da Lat to Mui Ne which took about 4 and a half hours. It was nice to get to a private room again, although the bathroom was abit shoddy our room was nice and the pool here is good too. We walked to a beach bar which has colourful poofs and it was so nice to just sit in the sun and do nothing! We decided to walk back along the front which was an error as it we had to walk through the Fisher areas which smelt and were quite filthy. I had a headache so when we got back I fell asleep. By the time we went out, many places looked closed. We walked for a while but ended up getting a taxi to a burger place where we got food and drinks. Sadly, I started to feel ill after this.Baca lagi

  • Mui Ne Tour

    17 Februari 2023, Vietnam

We decided against the sunrise tour as we were both pretty unwell, but we booked a jeep though our hotel which cost us 500 dong (£17.50) to take us to 4 locations. The first stop was the fairy stream, here we had an hours walk walking through a warm stream which at one point was covered by natural formed sandstone around you but the beauty was soon ruined with some terrible vietnamese karaoke. The walk became pretty rocky at one point but we got to the end to see a disappointing Waterfall. Next was the fishing village which didn't show us much other than the floating boats. Then we're the white sand dunes and the highlight of the trip, although we were thrown into paying for the quad bike which cost us 600vnd for 2 mins of riding!!! It took us to the first spot where people were sandboarding down the dune which looked so fun, but after paying for the the ATV I thought we'd wait to the red sad dunes (big regret!). The next part of the quad was so fun going down the big dunes which took us to the lotus Lake but it wasn't in season so it was just a lake. Here it was pretty peaceful surrounded by huge whitedunes and the blue lake. We then went to the red sand dunes which were not as g00d at all. Noone wad sandboarding here so we didn't bother and I was gutted we'd missed out at the white sand dunes 🙈 we were planning to be here for sunset but it didn't feel that special so we left. Ooops, almost forgot, he also took us to a dragonfruit farm which was cool to see the dragonfruit trees. They reminded me of aloe Vera leaves and were heavy and spiky!Baca lagi

  • Mui Ne > HCM > Don Mueang

    18 Februari 2023, Thailand

Today we finally left Vietnam for good! We left our hotel in Mui Ne where the lovely lady called the bus to pick us up from our hotel. We got on our shorter than normal sleeper bus and set off on out 5 hour journey back to Ho Chi Minh City for the 3rd time! When we arrived we found a place to get some food and then I'd googled a waxing place which was my highlight of the day! This was a Completely different experience to my underarm wax... Painless, rapid and professional! My legs and brows are looking fresh! If only I had another half an hour to get everything boxed off. We got our cheap grab (120vnd!) and headed to the airport which was super busy and crowded however inside was fine! Tom got ripped off with a 120vnd bottle of tiger and we were late boarding (classic vietnam). This flight was an expensive one and we didn't even get seats together. Not sure how Tom's seat is going but crikey.. I'm next to a guy who fell asleep instantly with snores to rival my mum, the kind where he sounds like he's choking yet still he's not waking. He's also doing neck rolls which make me thing they're going to wake him up but they just keep going. Oh, and the guy in front has just leant his chair back on this already no leg room plane and I can't fathom for the life of me how to lean mine back! Good job it's a short flight ✈️Baca lagi

  • BKK>Khao Sok

    19 Februari 2023, Thailand

Second day of the journey to South Thailand. We had about 4 hrs sleep in our 'motel' and headed back to the airport for a 7am flight to Surat Thani. We had seats together but unfortunately for Tom, he was squished in! We arrived in Surat Thani and the next few hours did not go smoothly. I'd prebooked the bus to Khao Sok from Surat Thani Town after being unable to find one from the airport. People there guided us to an unhelpful desk who sent us to get a bus which had already left, so then made us pay 500 baht to get a taxi to the town!!! We waited for the bus which was late, got on, and the first stop was... The airport! Madness. Robbed. Anyway, we arrived in Khao Sok and rang Green Mountain and the man came to pick us up. We checked into out little hut and not long after the dog was going crazy at something. It was the monkey swinging in the trees teasing him! Later on we got a lift to the town, which was full of tourists but it was small, cute and chill! We had a drink on some beanbags and then got a banana and Nutella roti. We got a lift back whilst gazing up at all the stars in the sky which was beautiful! We tucked ourselves into the mosquito net and with the sounds of the loud snores from other huts it was time to call it a night.Baca lagi

  • Khao Sok day trip

    20 Februari 2023, Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

We booked a day trip through our accommodation and got picked up around 9am after a mostly peaceful night in the hut! The journey was long with maybe a 2 hour bus journey and and hour boat journey. Today we seemed to be surrounded by annoying families with kids, starting with the family who didn't want to go on a different boat so we had to. We arrived at the floating bungalows and there was a good buffet spread on which was ideal as we were ravenous. Rice, noodles, coconut chicken and fried chicken. After that we got a kayak and enjoyed kayaking around the lake and dipping in for a swim. Getting back onto the kayak and off the kayak was definitely not my forte! We opted to stay at the lake rather than go on the hours hike to the Waterfall. On the way back we stopped at diamond cave where we saw lots of little bats hanging. We got unexpectedly drenched on the journey back too!Baca lagi

  • Khao Sok National Park

    21 Februari 2023, Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Our day started watching a cheeky monkey eating some chocolates he'd got from somewhere! We took advantage of taking the day at a slower pace and at breakfast I couldn't escape the little girl who refused to let me put her down! We got a lift from Mr Tawee to the national park and paid 200 baht each to go on our jungle trek. Here we saw the tail of a snake, many lizards and heard all sorts of creatures! We decided to rebel and go beyond the point which said you needed a guide and made it to one Waterfall and refreshed our sweaty selves! It was a tough walk due to the heat but felt good to do some exercise and we rewarded ourselves with a beer. Mr Tawee picked us up along with another couple who'd been feeding the monkeys. In the evening we went into the village and ate at Pawn's restaurant and had Thai curry. Khao Sok was never on the original list but we both loved it here and could spend much longer here (if we had the money!)Baca lagi

  • Ao Nang Krabi

    22 Februari 2023, Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

We checked out of our peaceful bungalow in Khao Sok and got a lift to the bus stop. Surprisingly, the bus was late and there was an annoying French guy. The journey wasn't that bad and we arrived in Ao Nang with not the best first impression. Coming from Khao Sok, it felt abit overwhelming with the amount of people and tourism here. We checked into our hostel, Popin, for a 5 night stay and already we're wondering if we can change this to 3 nights and get a refund 🤞🏼. We wandered around and settled on a pizza as the prices here are high compared to what we've been used to. We got some drinks from 7/11 and sat on the beach for a disappointing sunset! We then caught the end of a fireshow which was pretty cool but I did get nervous with fire flying around! We went for an oil, full body massage where Tom got more than he bargained for! I do love how cheap a massage is but I wish they wouldn't talk to each other. We then ended the night in a Reggae bar and felt shocked to have spent £10 on beer in there before heading to our private room where we heard the sounds of engines instead of animals. So long Khao Sok.Baca lagi

  • Ao Nang Beach Day

    23 Februari 2023, Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Our first wake up in Ao Nang and thankfully we've managed to get a refund on one night's accommodation so we're here for 4 nights instead of 5. We've managed to go way over budget down to expensive food and drinks today. We started with a nice but expensive breakfast before heading to the beach. The beach has no sun beds and as my towel was in the wash after Tom' s beer spillage we had to share a towel. We found some sun cream which was in Thai but stated Spf 30 and it was only 100 baht compared to 500 that we've been seeing so we thought we had a bargain. We spent the day sunbathing and swimming and went to a beach bar for lunch (expensive again!) and when it was time to leave, we realised we had both burnt! (Tom worse than me considering he doesn't think he needs suncream on his legs). We picked up our laundry, which again, more than we've been paying and I went for a foot scrub which wasn't the best at getting rid of my hard skin. As we'd gone so over budget we didn't have a late one, we had a meal, stopped for a drink and picked up bits from 7/11 before heading back to the hostel.Baca lagi

Railay was a nicer beach than Ao Nang that had some shade under the trees but these were hot spots and once again... We burned!! You can only get to Railay by boat and it looked a lovely small place. We opted for Thai food tonight due to being over budget and had some cocktails in the hostel where Tom noticed a hole in his custom made shorts!Baca lagi

  • Ao Nang Reset day

    25 Februari 2023, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Today we decided to have an admin day to work out our next move, which meant a no sun day which was probably wise as 2 days on the beach had burnt us both! After a few hours of plotting routes, booking buses and accommodation we decided to treat ourselves with a fancy massage. Tom went for a full body oil massage and I had an alow Vera massage for my poorly burnt legs. It was the best setting so far for our massage and the neck massage was unreal, but having my boobs out whilst she did my chest and stomach did not make for a relaxing moment. We stopped for a drink and I took the opportunity to finally get a pedicure across the road whilst Tom had his big changs. It's the first pedicure I've ever had done by a lady boy! We then passed the Reggae bar on our way home and were drawn in by the singer who could actually sing! (A rarety in South East Asia but this is probably because he was black, not Thai). We spent some time deciding if he was miming or not and then the same band came on from the other night where some Thai ladies were living the dancing. We walked past Ali baba on the way home and went in for a curry. We were both ecstatic! The curry, dahhl, naans were all unreal! We paid the price though, most expensive meal yet!Baca lagi

This morning we checked out of Ao Nang and waited for our 10am bus (didn't actually arrive until 10.45, typical Thailand!) we got on the bus with no explanation what was happening with people going to all sorts of places in Thailand. It took us to Krabi where we then waited until 12pm to get on another minivan to Koh Lanta. A short crossing on the car ferry we checked into Zam Zam house. We walked onto the beach where the chilled vibe was evident straight away with a strip of relaxing beach bars. We spent the late afternoon sat in a couple of beach bars and then headed to Patty's Secret Garden for tea. I had prawn Tom yum and we called it an early night.Baca lagi

Today we decided to postpone out exploring day and have a day on the beach. The sea here is so refreshing to get into as it isn't too freezing and I find myself spending more time in there than sunbathing, which isn't helping the tan along with thankfully so more sunburn! Tom enjoyed a swim with my goggles and I constantly tried avoiding rocks in the sea, which I failed at. We took outselves off to beach bars for sunset again and in the evening attempted angels restaurant following a recommendation from April, but it was closed! We went next door where they had chicken and baked potatoes on the bbq. For some reason it took over an hour for our fun to come but it was delightful!Baca lagi

  • Ko Lanta - Day 3

    28 Februari 2023, Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Today's start was later than hoped so we didn't quite explore the whole island but we started off by driving to the old town where most of the buildings were built up on stilts. From here, we continued south and stopped at a little beach and had a drink. After this, we went on to bamboo beach where we passed a lot of wild monkeys just crossing the road, chilling and playing. The sea at bamboo beach was a great swimming beach and so peaceful with nothing in the distance and no boats. We headed in the opposite direction after to go to long beach hoping for a Nice sunset on the beach, however, it was very cloudy and started to drizzle. As we were over on that side of the island, I took the opportunity to go to dreamy spa for a wax whilst Tom had a foot massage. We went to angels restaurant as it was open thankfully and the rasta man did warn us that it woukd be an hours wait for food as its only his wife cooking and everything is home made. 1 hour turned into 2 and several beanie rounds later our food finally came and my curry noodles were delightful. The coconut sauce was delicious and such great flavours!Baca lagi
