Rome - the Eternal city

Day 1. An overnight flight, a train ride and a walk down the streets of Rome. A quaint hotel, a cafe con latte and croissant, beautiful narrow streets with sweet, clean water fountains. Lunch at a pizzeria and then on to the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and the Imperial Fora. 40 hours and 2 hours of sleep later, dinner of REAL pasta and off to bed. Traveler Ohhhh. The Italian croissants and lattes. I miss them so much. Aren't the water fountains handy? Love the pics! I can't wait to follow your trip!

Not able to get tickets to the Vatican Museum but still wanted to stroll St Peters Square and the basilica. I could fill Find Penguins for days with the photos! We taxied over and were in awe and disbelief of the magnitude and beauty.Read more

Day 2 (besides Vatican City)

More to see and do after VC. Walked to the Parthenon but the wait was too long. Crazy busy. Then gelato and on to Trevi Fountain ⛲. Busy but still able to see this amazing sight. Back to the hotel for an afternoon break then out for dinner ( so good! A 12 inch personal pizza and wine for only 9 €) and you guessed it, more gelato! Last moments of the night on the rooftop bar. Oh Rome, you are so seductive.Read more
Traveler I'm glad Trevi Fountain had water. I think not too long ago it was dry for repairs. Such cool pics.

Goodbye Rome 😔

Last morning in Rome. (We are busing to the cruise ship in a few hours. ) Got up extra early to join Kathy and family to revisit the Trevi Fountain before the crowds. Wonderful walking around Rome in the predawn. The crowds were gone, a few photographers and tourists allowed us to walk right up and experience the fountain in a personal way. Got a little wet, tossed coins, touched the rock. Incredible.Read more

AKA Florence and Pisa! Booked a bus tour and did both in one day. I know, crazy, but that's all the time we had. Started in Florence with the Santa Maria del Flora - Duomo and the Galleria dell Accademia (to see David of course) then on to Pisa to lean with the tower and Piazza del Miracoli - Duomo. It was a wonderful day. Spoiler alert - I did say THE David by Michelangelo.Read more
Traveler The architecture is amazing!! They were incredibly talented with carving stone. And David is unbelievable. The weather looks great!! Looking forward to your next stop!! It's so fun getting to travel with you.

Traveler Our niece told us that sculpter is still a working trade because they need artists all over Italy to keep all the beautiful building sculptures in good shape and/or repaired.

Naples AKA Sorento, Positano and Pompeii. Went with a tour and discovered two wonderful picturesque towns and the amazing ruins of Pompeii. Experienced Palm Sunday in Positano with parades through the streets. The faith is rich here. Loved it all.Read more

In search of the perfect canolli... An easy day in Sicily. Walking to the town square to see the astronomical clock do it's thing at 12. The lion roasted, the roster crowed, saints bowed and the Ava Maria was played. Enjoyed the local architecture, climbed the clock tower, toured the Duomo and sampled 2 different recommended canolli places. Definitely the best.Read more
Traveler Wonderful pics!!! The canolli looked wonderful! The mosaic inside the church and the view of the coastline, both so pretty. The clock would have been cool to see and I like the views from the back side.

Siracusa

Actually, no moments in Siracusa. We headed straight to Catania! A wonderful city full of broad streets (without any traffic lanes ). This is the area Bob's family is from! We visited a Duomo for St Agatha, enjoyed a cuppucino and discovered a fish market! Then on to Mount Etna! We walked around a crater and felt like we were on top of the world. A local lunch then back to the ship.Read more
Traveler What is with the elephants? I saw one on a pedestal here and one in Kathy's pics. Looks like you all are having a great time!!! I just finished The Glass Maker and now want to go to Venice. Looking forward to seeing your pics there and everywhere in between!

Our excursion was cancelled and there wasn't a taxi to be had so Peter decided to rent a car and explore. Wanted to visit the famous Paleokastitsa beach and tour the island. Pete did a great job on the narrow winding roads. We found the beach plus two more! Got sidelined for a bus on a single lane road. Enjoyed Old Town Corfu, lovely place. I'm thinking, I could do Corfu again.Read more
Traveler I'm sorry that your excursion was canceled, but glad you got to explore. Now, you'll have to read "This Rough Magic" by Mary Stewart as it's set in Corfu. Looks beautiful! Yay for Peter for driving those narrow streets.

Traveler Wonderful memories of being on a bus in Greece on narrow roads like this being amazed that George, our driver, was able to maneuver his way through.
