    Cajón del Maipo

    March 19, 2018 in Chile ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Read more

    El Morado Mountain Lodge

    December 20, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Our 1st stop was just a km from Baño Morales at the El Morado Mountain Lodge. It has a beautiful location and is very beautifully built but it was too expensive to stay. One night cost about 150000 CLP for a double room 🙄 We decided to go into the village and find some place to stay.

    Cabañas Correcaminos

    December 20, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Baño Morales is a very small village of about 15 huts. The 1st one we saw when we entered the village was Cabañas Correcaminos. There were people staying there and highly recommended staying in the place. One of them called the place's owners. They had a vacant cabaña for 4 people and it cost us 50000 CLP total. Each cabaña had a sitout with a barbeque place. All of our neighbors were out cooking on the BBQ and singing and chatting. It was a great atmosphere. They even had a kitchen in the cabaña and a small shop just behind the cabañas to buy the groceries, charcoal etc.
We went to the shop and bought some food stuff for the dinner. After that we cooked some spaghetti and ate it inside on the dining table in the cabaña. The drinks were outside under the star. It was amazing. There were millions of stars and it looked amazing with the profile of the mountains in the foreground. Damn, I missed my proper camera now. 😔

Start of the San Francisco glacier trek

    December 21, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

We woke up around 9 am and checked out by 10:30 am. We left our bags in the car and went to the shop. Our hostel owner had told us that sometimes the shop owner can make fried eggs for breakfast, so we went to check with him. They had not opened when we reached so we called out to them and they agreed to open the shop for us. They also agreed to make eggs and coffee for us.
We also convinced them to cook some egg pies with vegetables for our lunch/dinner when we come back from the trek. By the time we finished the breakfast, it was 11:45 am and the El Morado National Monument closed for entries at 12 pm. We hurried over to the entrance and started the trek just in time. It was very nice and green around us, much different than the kind of treks we have been doing in the altiplano. It was quite hot in the sun. The views around were stunning.

The trek had a rich variety of flora. There were flowers of every hue amd color. Tge contrast of the colors with the greens was stunning. It was an ideallic location with warm and sunny under the sun but a light cool breeze cooling the body and swinging the flowers around. The 1st 30-40 minutes was a gentle but constant climb up the mountain.Read more

    Scenic beauty during the trek

    December 21, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

We continued our climb for about 50 min. After that we reached the 1st ridge and passed over. The scenery changed from greem grass and colorful flowers to that of lava fields covered by yellow grass and the granite peaks in the distance.

    Reaching Aguas Panimavida

    December 21, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

After trekking almost 1 hour we reached Aguas Panimavida. It was a stunning setting with bare snow covered mountains in the distance and the colored hills in the foreground with a crater like clearing marking the wetland in the greenery.

    Aguas Panimavida

    December 21, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Aguas Panimavida is like a place from some other planet. The water flowing out from the underground springs had dissolved and brought out minerals from below the ground. There were pools of red, brown, copper, yellow but interestingly, the water was cold and not hot as typical in such places.

    Laguna Morales

    December 21, 2017 in Chile ⋅ 🌙 -5 °C

The Laguna Morales was a small lake of emerald green water with dark granite mountains covered with snow in the backdrop. It was a stunning location but with nothing special to warrant a long stop. We stopped for a few minutes and then continued with the last stretch of the 8 kms trek.
