So many buses .. such little time !
Another 15 hrs ahead of us. It ended up being 16hrs of very cold , freezing fun !
Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City.

I think we know how I feel about Beijing by now.
To say some positive things about it I would say the food was pretty good. Also the Great Wall is definitely worth a visit.

Today started really early, our flight was scheduled at 6:30am which meant he had to be at the airport at 4am, hence we left Gold Coast at 3am. Our first stop Sydney international terminal 3 where we waited for a couple of hours before getting in the A380 that would take us to our next stop Hong Kong.

The stopover in HK was really quick, less than an hour and off we went, this time on Dragon air.

By the time we arrived in Beijing the local time was 0:00 i.e. 2am in Gold Coast, basically 24 hours from the time we woke up to get to the airport in the morning, completely exhausted we found our way along the huge Beijing airport.

Fortunately Jessie, our local guide, had organised private transport so we didn't wait much and 40 minutes later we arrived at our hotel.............end to our first dayRead more

The flight went smoothly , right up until the last 90 mins , we had TERRIBLE turbulence.
We were scattered all around the plane , so i was sitting on my own.
I didn't mind , as there was a lot of entertainment and had my laptop to hand.

The size of Beijing International Airport is just unbelievable from the point of landing to getting to the stand for us to depart the aircraft, took 45 minutes alone.
It has to be the biggest airport or up there by far.

I was slightly worried when waiting for my bag at reclaims, as i had trouble when i fly out of T5 with British Airways to Berlin , they had left myself and Aimee's bags behind at LHR! , in the back of my mind i was hoping i wouldn't experience this again or hopefully ever, especially on this kind of trip when you are so reliant on your kit and gear.
But all my birthdays and christmas's came at once and i saw my bag casually come round the corner on the baggage reclaim and i jumped for joy! .
So panic over.

2 hour transfer to our first nights stay - which is called " Impression Inn" in the northern out skirts of Beijing.
A family run business with good food and standard accommodation.
We have been informed by Penny , our Tour Leader and Chris - Our Chinese Hiking Expert that this is the "Best" accommodation by far......
Worried Laughs were performed and heard by everyone.

Food and drink and lots of mingling to be done tonight.

Temple of heaven + verjaardag

Vandaag zijn we naar de Temple of Heaven gegaan. Het programma werd veranderd, de verboden stad gaan we later bezoeken.

Na een kleine busreis kwamen we aan. Eerst gingen we met onze Chinese buddy's een paar icebreakers doen, dit zijn spelletjes om in contact te komen. We moesten allemaal in een rondje rennen en als iemand dan een nummer riep, moest je met zoveel mensen bij elkaar gaan staan. Dus als iemand 7 riep, maakte je groepjes van 7 mensen. Dit was erg leuk.

Daarna liepen we door een park naar de Temple of Heaven. Het was een groot en indrukwekkend gebouw. Na wat uitleg over het gebruik van deze gebouwen zijn we verder gaan lopen.

Terwijl we door het park liepen wilde verschillende Chinezen constant met ons op de foto. Onze Chinese gids zei: "Jullie zijn op dit moment net zo populair als panda's in Nederland". Na ontelbaar veel foto's waren we er wel klaar mee.

Na een indrukwekkend bezoek van deze mooie plek gingen we weer terug naar het hotel. We hadden wat vrije tijd en gingen daarna eten. Dit was een Chinese curry. In het restaurant begonnen ze allemaal te zingen en kreeg ik zelfs een taartje!

Na het eten gingen we weer terug naar het hotel. We gingen met elkaar op een kamer zitten en we praatten gezellig. Om 23:30 zijn we teruggegaan naar onze kamers.

Daar ben ik nog even naar de kamer van twee vriendinnen van me gegaan. We waren het er alle drie over eens dat het na de eerste dag al leek alsof er al bijna een halve week voorbij was. Om 1:30 ben ik gaan slapen.
