    Bordeaux, France

    June 11 in France ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

    Bordeaux 11-13 June
We had 2 full days (3 nights) in Bordeaux. Our accommodation was in a great location - near bridge Ponte de Pierre, the first bridge built in Bordeaux (on the orders of Napoleon Bonaparte).
We walked the UNESCO Heritage trail - highlights: Gothic Cathédrale Saint-André, Place de la Bourse, centered on the Three Graces fountain, overlooks the Miroir d’Eau reflecting pool. Ponte Chaban-Delmas - 77 metres high, highest lift bridge in Europe. Grosse Cloche, historic town belfry and only remains of the old defensive gate of the 13th Century.
    We drove the wine-growing region.
The Bordeaux region is naturally divided by the Gironde Estuary into a Left Bank area and a Right Bank area. We only had time to drive a small part of the Left Bank but it was a beautiful drive. A few samplings along the way but we found that most chateaux were closed unless you had booked a tasting.

    Bordeaux Day 1

    August 12 in France ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

We woke up in Paris and with great sadness we got ready to move onto the next adventure. There is so much to see and do in Paris that we both agree it’s somewhere we would love to come back to. But on to Bordeaux. We caught our fast train which was super comfy and fast. Great way to travel. Pete says better than the plane!

Arrived in Bordeaux and worked out the transit system and found our bnb, which is in a quiet neighbourhood in a 17th century apartment. Amazing building and a lovely hostess called Michelle.

After settling in we headed out to explore and found our way to some of the sights in Bordeaux. We went to two art museums and tried to get in to a couple of things that were not open Monday’s, but we walked through some amazing parts of the old town. We were worn out, well our feet and calves were, so we headed back for a rest.

Seems like the best way to do it as when we woke up we headed out for more exploring. Went to the mirror pools, which because of everyone walking in it wasn’t so much a mirror but still a beautiful building. Watched some line dancing, yes in Bordeaux and then wandered the old town until we found a dinner spot and then home. Really amazing how we are finding our way around without too much trouble! Google maps does help 😊😊

Wake up late -> take a nap -> go out for a beer and walk around

Trying to get in the new mindset of having no schedule and no obligations, but it’s not that easy! We are formatted to be busy and productive. We’ll need a few more beers to get there :)

    Day 1 in Bordeaux, France

    October 12 in France ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

So I am in Bordeaux France for the weekend. It is very hot (30 degrees celcius). I think i'm going to make a habit of visiting southern France every October now.

I started my trip by exploring an urban area called Darwin Ecosystème. They had a market there where I bought an eco friendly bamboo toothbrush. Then I took a bus into the city centre to explore the main shopping street. It was overcrowded which is why I generally hate going to main shopping streets in European cities.

After this I went to the Le Bar à Vin. Its a popular wine bar in the city centre. The prices are really good and you can get wine for €2 or €3 per glass. I tried all 3 wine flavours...and underestimated the strength of French wine.

So I had to try and sober up by eating food. It's a good thing that I am in France because I got to eat my beloved moules frites (mussels and chips). I have noticed that food and drinks in Bordeaux is actually reasonably priced.

Anyway...after eating I went back to my hostel and finally checked in. Nobody was in the room so I could comfortably get ready for bed. The bed was not the most comfortable but hostel is cool so ot doesnt matter. They have a bar, they serve food, the kitchen is huge, and the atmosphere is really pleasant. So i'm can't complain about a lumpy bed that costs £25 per night.

    May 24 in France ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

    August 21 in France ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

    September 17 in France ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C
