      Promenad till Cannes

      Började dagen med att tvätta kläder. Det fanns en tvättstuga på hotellet, kostade 5 € /tvätt. Med lite krångel och hjälp fick vi igång maskinerna till slut. Franska är inte vår grej.
      Dagens utflykt var en promenad längs kusten till Cannes, 18 245 steg (13,5 km), rekord! Vi hade tänkt ta en drink när vi kom fram men när vi väl var där och såg alla snygga människor, välsminkade med gucci väskor, kände vi oss något utanför. Men en paus i skuggan på två av de blåa stolarna blev det i alla fall.
      Fick lite panik när allt krånglade vid inköp av tågbiljett tillbaka, såg oss som Tom Hanks i filmen the Terminal, för vi orkade absolut inte gå tillbaka. Nu tänker vi INTE göra några fler långpromenader.

      Cannes

      Cannes war für 4 Tage unser Zentrum für Ausflüge. Der Sandstrand und die Palmenpromenade La Croisette ist riesig und wirklich schön. Am ersten Abend waren jede Menge Schüler abends am Strand, die wohl den Beginn der französischen Sommerferien gefeiert haben. Cannes selbst ist sehr teuer, wir sind deshalb auf Selbstverpflegung übergegangen (Spaghetti in 4 Variationen mit Vor- und Nachspeise 😅). Wir hatten ein Appartement mit Blick vom Balkon auf einen Partyclub, der zwar gute Musik, aber extrem laut und bis spät in die Nacht gemacht hat. Am Filmpalast stehen die Leute Schlange, um sich selbst auf der Treppe der Cannes-Rolle abzulichten 🙄). Das wars erstmal von der Côte d'Azur. Ab morgen (4.7.) geht's wieder in die Ruhe der Provence.Read more

      Wir sind bereits um 8 angekommen, aber die Suchen nach einem Parkplatz hat etwas länger gedauert. Jetzt sind wir erstmal am Strand bis wir uns Apartment dürfen.
      Zudem hatte ich bei dem 3. Zwischenstop keine Lust davon ein Footprint zu machen.Read more

      Cannes ..eine Stadt der Schönen und Reichen 💒 gelegen am Meer mit einem sehenswerten Yachthafen 🛥️ ⛵ Eine Stadt alles wie geleckt, Preise entsprechend 😜 wir bummeln ein wenig und lassen uns an einer schicken Strandbar nieder🍹🍺, vier Getränke zum Preis von 50€ 😳, aber man muss es jal erlebt haben 🤣🤣🤣 Auf dem Rückweg zum Parkhaus gibt es noch ein großes Softeis🍦🍦, das können die Franzosen 🇨🇵 und dann noch ein Sprung ins Casino 🥳Read more

      Cannes (from the Cheap Seats)

      After joining the nuns for their morning mass (entirely in Italian so I didn’t stand a chance), I hop on the train to leave Florence. The journey takes me via Pisa and then along the Riviera coast of both Italy and France. Much of the route seems to be through tunnels but the glimpses I get of the Mediterranean Sea are stunning! I have a change at Ventimiglia, my last point within Italy, and I have just enough time to grab a quick station Macdonald’s just before my next train. I discover that Italian Macdonald’s sell hunks of Parmesan cheese as a snack (upon googling I’m informed it falls under the concept of ‘Pocket Cheese’) and I quickly add Italy to the list of places to consider relocating to.😉

      I reach my hostel a few hours later than planned thanks to some unattended luggage being left around Cannes station. As I’m hauling my luggage up to my €25 a night bed, people come down the stairs towards me dripping in designer gear. It’s an apt metaphor for Cannes itself as I quickly discover that it’s a town full of people with money and those pretending to have money. The front street is lined with top line designer stores and the other streets are full of upmarket brands that certainly aren’t cheap but wouldn’t require multiple lottery wins to shop in. Most tourists flock to the second, while the first is lined with new range Lamborghinis, Porches, and Rolls Royces with foreign license plates.

      Obviously Cannes is known for its film festival held each year in May. In summer however it’s very much a beach resort. There is still however ‘the’ red carpet and a small walk of fame with handprints of people like Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman. It’s incredibly understated to say it’s probably what Cannes is best know for.

      Although it’s a small town, Cannes is incredibly busy and you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in a suburb of Paris. The waterfront is pretty but there’s only a tiny bit of public beach, the rest all fenced off for private clubs and restaurants. While it’s in a beautiful setting, I haven’t quite found the magic of Cannes yet but I settle in, enjoy the sea and get lost in a few French bookshops.      Read more

      Heute fuhren wir in die von uns so geliebten französischen Seealpen! Ein Traum für jeden Motorradfahrer, vorausgesetzt er liebt Kurven! Die erste Etappe führt uns durch wunderschön zu fahrende kleine und größere Berge und Täler zum Gorges de Verdun.
      Die Verdonschlucht, Gorges du Verdon, umgangssprachlich auch Grand Canyon du Verdon, ist eine Schlucht in der Provence. Durch den etwa 21 km langen und bis zu 700 Meter tiefen Canyon fließt der türkisfarbene Fluss Verdon. Die Gorges du Verdon sind neben der Tara-Schlucht einer der größten Canyons Europas und Hauptbestandteil des nach ihm benannten Nationalpark Verdon!
      Die Rückreise führte die letzten 65km über Straßen, die nur aus Kurven bestehen! Man muss aufpassen, daß einem da nicht übel wird!
      Im Hotel angekommen, willkommens-Bierchen, ab unter die Dusche und auf ins Getümmel von Cannes!
      Es gab eine sehr leckere Etagere mit vielen Meeresfrüchten und anschließend noch eine Portion Miesmuscheln - lecker!!!!!!!!      Read more

      Île Saint Marguerite to Villefranche (Ni

      After our hasty exit from Cannes, we motored a very short distance to Île Saint Marguerite where we anchored for the night. There is a 17th century Fort Royal where the "Man in the Iron Mask" was imprisoned. His identity has never been established and the mask was apparently velvet. The anchorage was lovely and quiet with a few small power boats there for the afternoon and 5 sailboats for the night. Bob rowed us ashore in the morning and we walked through the pine and oak forest to the Fort. We had seen lots of kids on a small beach and there they were having breakfast outside after sleeping at the Fort! The French version of our outdoor school! We continued walking around the island then returned to our boat with me rowing us back. Lovely clear turquoise water. As we sailed towards Nice, we saw a large school of big fish jumping and splashing and a flock of birds flying and diving above them. No idea what they were but there were fishing boats nearby. As we were cruising towards Nice, there were planes overhead about every 2 minutes. As Nice is the 3rd largest city in France, it's no wonder. The runway runs along the water so we had a good view of comings and goings. We had a slight disagreement about whether to go the marina in Nice or to an anchorage just beyond. I wanted to do laundry and I knew the marina had facilities. Bob thought we could anchor and go by dinghy to the marina in Villefranche. Which we did but arrived 10 minutes after the Capitainerie closed. 🤦🏻‍♀️😡 The town centre and another laundrette are up a steep 10 minute climb so I gave up. Dirty for another day. ugh. A Celebrity cruise ship was at the entrance to the anchorage and, unbeknownst to us until later, was blocking the swells. They left and the rocking, rolling, up, down, swinging began! Bob put out another anchor to keep us lined up but the wind shifted all night so he was up adjusting and sleeping between shifts. I was just up. The night was neither happy, nor clean, nor restful! We had decided we were going to Corsica, a 95 mile journey, so set the alarm for 5 a.m. I needn't have bothered with the alarm!Read more

      Tschüss Cannes!

      Nach einem weiteren Bar-Abenteuer gestern habe ich heute wieder etwas länger geschlafen und habe mich dann erst zu Mittag auf den Weg in die Stadt und schließlich zum Hafen gemacht. Von dort aus gings mit einem Boot zur Insel St. Marguerite, die wirklich sehr schön ist. Dort angekommen, bin ich zur kleinen Burg gegangen, hab mir die verschiedenen Restaurants angeschaut und mich dann schließlich in einer kleinen Bucht, in der sonst niemand war, niedergelassen, um dort zu schnorcheln. Das war voll interessant und ich hab viele Krabben, Fische, verschiedene Pflanzen und sogar ein paar kleine Quallen gesehen. Nach einiger Zeit bin ich dann auf die andere Seite der Insel gegangen, um mir dort eine Unterwasser-Kunstinstallation anzuschauen. Dazu musste ich etwa 100m von der Küste aus schwimmen und dort gab es dann, verteilt auf ein paar 100m, 6 Steinköpfe, die denen auf den Osterinseln ähnlich sehen. Auch auf dieser Seite der Insel gab's viele interessante Tiere und sogar einen Seegraswald. Im Inneren der Insel gibt es ein paar Wege durch den Wald, die auch alle sehr nett sind. Alles in allem hat mir St. Marguerite echt gut gefallen. :)

      Am Abend bin ich dann wieder zurück ans Festland gefahren und dort gab's wieder meine Budgetburger zu essen und ich hab noch meine ganzen Sachen zusammengepackt. Morgen in der Früh geht's auf nach Paris. Ich freu mich schon :)      Read more

      Iles des Lerins - Sainte Marguerite

      Südlich der Stadt gut sichtbar vom Strand liegt die Inselgruppe Îles de Lérins: Sainte-Marguerite (4,6 Kilometer) und Saint-Honorat (5,7 Kilometer) – beide sind mit einer öffentlichen Fähre zu erreichen.

      Die größte Insel Sainte-Marguerite ist unter anderem für das Gefängnis für ihren hochadligen Gefangenen, dem Mann mit der eisernen Maske berühmt, welcher von Alexandre Dumas dem Älteren in seinem Roman „Le Vicomte de Bragelonne“ oder „zehn Jahre später“ (fr. Dix ans après) beschrieben wurde.
      Über 200 Jahre wurde dieses Gefängnis geführt; eine weitere äußerst exponierte Lage wie eine Karte sehr anschaulich zeigt (von Alcatraz bis Robben Island……).

      Die zweitgrößte Insel Saint-Honorat beherbergt auf dem Land ein heute noch bewohntes Kloster, die Abtei Lérins, die um die Jahre 400 bis 410 vom Heiligen Honoratus von Arles gegründet wurde.

      Nach einer ausgiebigen Erkundigung des Forts gibt es als Belohnung ein Glas Rosé, untermalt von karibischen Rhythmen.      Read more

      Cannes can wonderland!

      Day trip to Cannes at the perfect time 2 days after the Cannes Film Festival! Sometimes you don’t plan things out so perfectly. But it is such a cute town with great food! snails anyone?! Well we enjoyed them and did our best to experience the whole town in one day! First train out and last train back is how we like it. We might be creating new dreams of being yacht girls after this visit though, gonna have to adjust the budget!Read more
