      End of travel + Day 1

      We made it!
      I’ll be honest when I say this day was exhausting. It’s easy to think of a honeymoon to be very romantic and relaxing, but the effort and energy that goes into actually getting to the destination is often forgotten. I’ll try and make it short.
      Departed our flight to Tahiti (Papeete specifically) at 9:50pm and landed at 4:00am. We were lucky enough to get the middle seat open during that flight! We got through customs by 5:30am and took a bus to the ferry “terminal”. We boarded and left for Moorea on the ferry at 5:55am. We don’t arrive at Moorea until 6:45am. From there we took another bus (thank god it was only a 5 minute ride) to our resort. We arrived around 7am. Where it got rough was we were not given our room until 2pm…. Matt and I were running on snacks and probably 3 hours of sleep. Tears were almost shed at times thinking how exhausted and gross we felt. Matt, unfortunately has come down with some cold as well and is trying to sleep it off. So we finally get our room at 2pm, shower, and now Matt’s asleep till dinner. I, of course being Kristi Hibbs’ daughter, cannot relax and I’ve completely unpacked my suitcase, organized the bungalow for the week, and now writing this with a glass of wine in hand.
      In better news, the weather is AMAZING!!!! We just missed a huge storm that hit Moorea for the last three days and it’s expected to stay nice and sunny until Friday.

      Last day

      I can’t believe it’s already the last day!

      Today was very relaxed, which was nice! Woke up, had breakfast, took a nap, went snorkeling, “vegged out” on our phones, and then got ready for a nice dinner! We splurged and made a reservation for the 5 course meal for our last day. It was very yummy! We both agree that Matt’s beef tenderloin was our favorite dish. I got their Mahi dish which was also very good.

      The rest of the night is filled with more Netflix and relaxation. Tomorrow will be dedicated to packing and traveling home!

      Cheers to a honeymoon! It was such a blast even with the multiple bumps in the road. What’s marriage without a couple of hurdles to get over anyways!

      Looking back, I do have to give a quick shoutout to Steve Hibbs for helping me calm down and get through the first day of the honeymoon with matt getting sick. Having to call an ambulance and getting to a hospital in a foreign country, let alone on almost zero hours of sleep, is a great way to panic! Dad helped me walk through the steps that would need to be taken if certain things arrive. Appreciate any and all help!      Read more

      WOW!!!! What an adventure! Persevering through exhaustion, illness, navigating an emergency in a foreign country is a challenging way to start a honeymoon! Soooo happy for all the subsequent great adventures!! A story for the ages! 🌴🥂💞

      End of day 1 + day 2

      Welp! Funny looking back at ending my last post saying “hopeful things will go up from here!” Because they most definitely did not.
      Matt ended up running a fever and passed out multiple times between the time of 5:30pm and 10pm. Long story short, since I’ll save sharing the gross details that happened in the bathroom, we ended up having to call the resort to call an ambulance and take us to the hospital. Matt got an IV and was required to stay the night there, but I could not. I call a taxi back to the resort and got back by 1:30am. At this point it’s been a 24 hour day… a pretty shocking start to the honeymoon.

      Matt arrives back at the resort at 7am this morning and is feeling better but not great. His fever is gone and is just battling a cold. We were supposed to golf today but moved it to tomorrow and cancelled our snorkeling tour since we weren’t sure if Matt would be able to handle 4 hours of snorkeling. Instead of golfing today we rented snorkeling gear and just swam around our resort. Saw some great fish and beautiful coral.

      Definitely trying to make the most of the trip but just so happy that Matt is feeling a little better and back at the resort.      Read more

      geeze, this is one memorable honeymoon! so glad Matt is better, and sounds like a smart schedule change. the great thing is, you cottage is beautiful and looks so restful! love your pics, it's okay to slow down and just enjoy the resort!

      Wanderung auf Moorea

      An unserem letzten Tag auf Moorea sind wir zu einem Aussichtspunkt gewandert und haben den Ausblick auf die Lagunen von oben genossen. Es war allerdings sehr heiß und ich habe mir einen Sonnenbrand geholt und musste mich den Rest des Tages von der Hitze erholen.
      Am nächsten Morgen ging es dann schon weiter nach San Francisco mit tollem Ausblick vom Flugzeug auf die Inseln von Französisch Polynesien.

      On our last day on Moorea we hiked up to a view point and enjoyed the beautiful landscape and the lagoon from above. It was very hot and I got sunburnt and was pretty exhausted from the heat.

      Our first “normal day”

      November 9, 2022 in French Polynesia ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

      It finally feels like the honeymoon has started!

      We ended up going to bed Tuesday night before 9pm and woke up at 6am since we were both exhausted from the days before. Matt woke up feeling much better, just still fighting a little cold. We took it slow in the morning and then rented bikes to the golf course that was about 2 miles away! It was great seeing Matt back to his normal self and the golf was so much fun! Matt ended up 3 over for the round (with the exception of a couple breakfast balls) and I got a birdie! Afterwards we found a burger joint, but ended up sharing a HUGE ceaser salad and a side of fries.

      Matt decided to continue his bike ride to a local grocery store while I went back to the room and snorkeled around the resort. Once matt got back, he decided to take a nap while I caught up on reading.

      Later that night, we went to happy hour and got some very yummy appetizers to split for dinner. We walked around the resort and ran across an event happening which was some sort of local tribal dance. It was so fun to see! We went back to the room and ended the night watching some Netflix!

      The cat that I keep posting pictures of comes join everyone at breakfast and we’ve named him Franc. 🙂      Read more

      Day 4

      November 10, 2022 in French Polynesia ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

      We’re back on track!

      Today was another slow morning that started out with some mimosas on the deck. We decided we want to get out of the resort again and just started walking. We actually ran into a beautiful view point! We stayed there for a bit and then decided to walk back and explore other beaches near the resort. Matt ended up finding a coconut and set his mind to getting it open, which about 20 minutes later, he succeeded! Walked back to the bungalow and had to taste it. Matt liked it but not my cup of tea.

      We got lunch delivered from a local Banh Mi Restaurant and it was MASSIVE! So yummy but so much fun! We relaxed at home for awhile before deciding we wanted to check out the pineapple juice factory/distillery. Got a taxi and walked around the factory and tried some of their rum!

      Got back home and went to our happy hour again and ordered some room service for dinner! Back at the room and currently watching Netflix! A great day!      Read more

      Mit dem Roller um die Insel

      Im zweiten Anlauf hat’s dann doch noch geklappt und ich konnte mit dem Roller die Insel unsicher machen 😊.
      Um 10 Uhr ging’s bei sonnigem Wetter los Richtung Osten. Auch auf Moorea gibts nur eine Rundstraße die 66 Kilometer entlang der Küste verläuft.
      Mein erstes Ziel war der Taotea Lookout. Von hier hat man einen herrlichen Ausblick auf das Meer in seiner ganzen Farbenpracht, die Berge und sogar Tahiti ist am Horizont zu sehen 😍. Ich konnte mich gar nicht satt sehen und bin eine ganze Zeit verweilt. Nur einen Katzensprung weiter hab ich am Tamae Beach einen weiteren Stopp eingelegt und mich ins kristallklare Wasser gestürzt 😊. Auch hier hätte ich ewig bleiben können 😍 deshalb hab ich die traumhafte Kulisse auch für meine verspätete Mittagspause genutzt 😊. Nachdem allerdings immer mehr Wolken ☁️ über die Berge gezogen sind hab ich mich zur Weiterfahrt entschlossen. Auf der Nordseite ging’s weiter entlang der Cook‘s Bay, eine weitere Postkartenkulisse 😍. Auf dem Weg zur Opunohu Bay bin ich dann ordentlich in den Regen 🌧 gekommen, leider hab ich so schnell keinen Unterschlupf gefunden und ich war binnen weniger Minuten klatsch nass 🙈. Gott sei dank hatte ich noch ein Shirt zum wechseln dabei, leider aber keine Regenjacke 🙈. So schnell wie der Regen gekommen ist war er auch wieder weg, allerdings hat’s so ausgesehen als ob noch mehr runter kommen wird. Trotzdem hab ich mich entschieden auch noch den Belvedere Aussichtspunkt anzufahren, dieser liegt oberhalb der Bay. Mein Roller musste alles geben um den Berg hoch zu kommen. Leider kam dann auch ein weiterer Regenschauer 😕. Ich hab mich dann aufgemacht den letzten Streckenabschnitt zurück zu legen, allerdings hab ich auf dem Weg noch einen Einheimischen und eine ältere Dame kennen gelernt als ich gerade ein letztes Foto unten in der Bay schießen wollte. Ich konnte gar nicht so schnell schauen, wie ich ein Bier 🍺 in der Hand hatte und mit Bananen versorgt wurde. Es ergaben sich noch ein paar witzige Gespräche und es stellte sich heraus, dass die Dame auch aus Deutschland kommt aber vor über 20 Jahren mit ihrem Segelboot auf Moorea hängen geblieben ist 😃. Als mir schon das zweite Bier hingestellt wurde hab ich dann höflich abgelehnt und bin endgültig zurück zur Unterkunft gefahren. Ein wirklich schöner und erlebnisreicher Tag. Moorea ist ein wahrer Traum und hat mir noch besser als Bora Bora gefallen 😍.      Read more

      Tag 1 auf Moorea

      Den ersten Tag auf Moorea haben wir langsam angehen lassen und erstmal den kleinen Hotelpool getestet, da über die Mittagszeit ein starker Wind für hohe Wellen am Strand sorgte. Später ging es dann zu Fuß an den nahegelegenen langen Sandstrand zur ersten Schnorchel- und Baderunde. Den Abend lassen wir nun im Moorea Beach Café ausklingen und werden uns nachher mit gehöriger Bettschwere von den Wellengeräuschen in den Schlaf wiegen lassen.Read more

      Goodbye Moorea

      Heute stand schon wieder der Abschied von der Insel Moorea an 😢. Die Insel hat mir sehr gut gefallen, sodass ich es auch durchaus noch länger hier ausgehalten hätte.
      Da ich noch bis 9:00 Uhr den Roller 🏍 hatte, bin ich morgens schon um 6:30 Uhr raus und bin noch mal zum Belvedere Aussichtspunkt hoch gefahren in der Hoffnung am Morgen eine bessere Sicht zu haben. Die Mühe hat sich gelohnt und ich wurde mit einem atemberaubenden Ausblick über die beiden Bays belohnt 😍. Ganz in Ruhe konnte ich die Aussicht alleine genießen 😊. Anschließend bin ich zurück gefahren und hab erst mal gefrühstückt.
      Eigentlich wollte ich erst am Nachmittag zurück nach Tahiti, aber ich habe leider nur einen Transfer zur Fähre für den Vormittag bekommen. Um 12:15 Uhr ging’s dann also ganz flott innerhalb einer halben Stunde zurück nach Papeete. Ich hab mich nochmal im gleichen Hostel wie schon vor meiner Schiffstour eingebuchtet. Dieses liegt praktischerweise auch nicht weit vom Fährterminal entfernt.
      Am Nachmittag bin ich deshalb noch etwas durch die Straßen spaziert. Auch auf dem zweiten Blick hat mir die Stadt nicht wirklich gefallen. Papeete erliegt völlig dem Verkehrschaos, dazu herrscht permanent ein Lärmpegel und die Hitze staut sich abartig in der Stadt.
      Am Abend war ich noch bissi am Hafen und hab versucht mir den letzten Sonnenuntergang 🌅 in der Südsee anzuschauen, leider wurden er aber so halb von den Wolken verschluckt. Dafür gabs nochmal einen schönen Ausblick auf Moorea.
      Nachdem ich doch sehr wehmütig war und nicht so viel mit mir anzufangen wusste, hab ich mich spontan entschlossen essen zu gehen und mir einen Cocktail 🍹 zu gönnen 😊. Beides schmeckte hervorragend und war ein guter Ausklang meines Aufenthaltes in Französisch Polynesien 😊.
      Ich werde die Zeit definitiv immer in sehr guter Erinnerung behalten 😊.      Read more

      Anreise Etappe 3: Endlich angekommen!

      Den Flug von Vancouver nach Tahiti verbrachten wir größtenteils schlafend, um auch mit Energie am Zielort anzukommen. 5 Uhr morgens Ortszeit landeten wir dann auf der Insel und wurden von einem freundlichen Tahitianer mit Blumenkränzen begrüßt, der uns zum Hafen brachte. Von dort ging es dann mit der Fähre auf die grüne Insel Moorea.

      Auf dem Weg in die „Green Lodge“ gab es noch einen kurzen Stop zum Blick über eine Lagune - so wird der Transfer gleich zum Sightseeing. Jetzt begreifen wir so langsam: Wir sind angekommen im Paradies.      Read more
