    Donauworth - Ingolstadt - Kelheim

    May 14, 2016 in Germany

Today was about as packed as I can handle, in a good way.

Target of 110 km meant an early start and keeping pedalling.

Coffee break was taken from a small village shop (a cyclist gave me directions).

Lunch in Ingolstadt - viewed two churches and got part of a well attended organ recital. Then went to see the old anatomy school, used by Mary Shelley as the setting for Dr Frankenstein (see pic).

Hail and heavy showers in the afternoon.

Rode part of the way with Gunther and we caught the ferry together for the last 5 km into Kelheim. Very scenic trip through a gorge which also saved us having to cycle over another hill.

Staying in Kelheim youth hostel tonight.

    June 19 in Germany

No Englisch today ask Google! 😋

Read more

    Befreiungshalle, Kelheim

    June 26, 2017 in Germany

After a few wrong turns, and about 30 kilometres of needless countryside excursion, we arrived at the "Hall of Liberation", perched hill on a hill overlooking the picturesque town of Kelheim. Seems I input Befreiungstrasse in into the GPS. Oh well...What can I say - nice countryside to drive through, even when you don't have to. Completed in 1863, the structure is intended to celebrate victories over Napoleon in the Wars of Liberation. (`1813-1815). We left at 4pm, wondering whether we had enough time to get to the airport for Malaga...thinking that we did but wondering whether we had misjudged tings after the earlier GPS debacle.Read more

    Kloster Weltenburg

    June 26, 2017 in Germany

Left Regensburg 11ish and drove in our hire car to Kloster Weltenburg - arriving there in time for a stroll to some roman ruins on the hilltop behind and a really great lunch - for Annette, a local trout salad, and for me, fired herrings that were really very tasty. Probably one of the best meals in Germany we have had. Ofcourse, the Kloster is famous for its dark beer so...we supported this particular religious endeavour by consuming 2 half litre glasses of this magnificent essence. Easy enough too understand the Catholic Churches high conversion. rates in the past.Read more

    October 3, 2017 in Germany

The weather this morning was pretty awful; however, it cleared up by midday. We set off for Meersburg in the car and then took the ferry to Mainau Island; beautiful gardens. (It made Floriade look very amateurish). Mark and I are now officially oldies as we have visited a number of gardens on this trip. We then came back to Meersburg and drove to Lindau the last German town before Austria. This was a very pretty town on the lake when we enjoyed our al fresco dinner.Read more

    October 4, 2017 in Germany

We left Friederichshafen today for Kelheim. The first two photos are of die Villa and the winderful breakfast. Mark and I are not enjoying the driving/navigating in Germany. The roads are just not built for the number of cars/trucks etc. that are using the roads. We will both be glad to get back to the UK and public transport! Anyway, we made it to Kelheim late this afteroom and walked up a steep hill to a monument commemorating something or other; I will fill in the details later. We then adjourned for dinner at a Vietnamese/Sushi restaurant; no more noodles for me. Oh, we also stopped off at the Audi museum in Ingolstadt; how could I forget.Read more

    May 31 in Germany
