Day 68d. Lindau Insel, Bodensee, GermanyOctober 11 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C
We crossed backed into Germany and arrived in Lindau Island at about 4pm. We were tired and our backsides were travel weary! We wondered at the charm and splendor of the old town then looked for a hotel. Most hotels on the island were well in excess of $200 a night but fortunately for us they were all fully booked.
Never the less we found Hotel Gasthof Freihof which is a very fine 3 star hotel that suited us perfectly only 1km from the island.
We had a shower and changed our clothes and without our packs we cycled back to explore the island. We cycled around the island first which took very little time. We saw an outdoor fair probably set up every Friday night. We passed on the Wurst mit Brötchen and found our way to the wharf as the link statue welcomed in another ferry.
There was quite a lot of activity at the wharf with many enjoying what we suspect was Happy Hour.
Winding our way back through the cobbled streets we found ourselves back were we started and promptly locked up our bikes and proceeded to export on foot.
Screaming fire engines police and ambulances shattered our meanderings and draw us to follow the action. The road was closed perhaps 12 or more vehicles with flashing lights thundered in and apparently apprehended a man with a smoking toaster on the third floor of a coastal apartment.
As life returned to normal we settled into Gasthof Stift for fish and beer. Bodensee fish are hard to find in 2019.
The Island is charming and we did enjoy our time here but light had faded and we needed to start for home.
After a few false starts and cycling the wrong way on bike paths and footpaths we found our way home. We collected a couple of local beers and baklava from a local kebab store and retired to write this blog.Read more
