    Day 5

    15. maaliskuuta, Samoa ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Woke up late cause I stayed up until 3 am reading 🙈
    Oops.
Had a massage appointment for 10:30 so ate breakfast and went to my appointment. Wasn’t sure what service I was getting cause I left after making the appointment yesterday indecisive and told them I would pick tomorrow but when I arrived they told me to lie down so I did and happily took whatever they gave me.
    So good.
I asked for a medium over hard pressure because of my sunburn. Still excellent. Need to get more at home I love them.
Only got the giggles once when she was doing my knee.
Went back to the room to find Will reading. He is nearly done with his book so proud haha it’s only taken several years haha
Played with our cat friend then headed to pool. *said in a Brisbane accent* “Pooooool.”
Swam for ages. Had a Oreo milkshake each which is definitely their most consistently yummy drink.
Swam swam swam. Performed a clear Olympic level synchronized swimming dance routine for Will and did not receive appropriate praise.
    Rude.

Aolie is more fun to say than it is yum to eat

I left this unfinished for like 6 weeks after coming home but I believe I then went snorkeling by myself then went back to the pool in the evening after dinner.

Had a fab time. Would come again but also don’t need to.
I think the people let it down. And frankly I think we have done pretty much it has to offer.

    - Samoa airport garbage
    - flew home next to Petero Civoniceva (QLD NRL legend.)
    - Origainlly tossed up between Samoa and Fiji and we are winners because we learnt as we flew back via Fiji it had been torrential rain the whole week.

    Day 4

    14. maaliskuuta, Samoa ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

The mentality for 9am start vs 8am start is wild.
Slept wonderfully for our 9am start.
Breakfast had these nice donut things today.
Unfortunately it’s mainly just the same scrambled egg and sausages everyday 🤢
Got on our way to the To - Sua trench.
Probs my highlight of the trip.
    Big big hole.
Big big slippery ladder to get down.
Green water, cold temp which became perfect after a minute.
The current was so strong it pulled you around one side to the other. Their were ropes to hold onto.
We went through a cave to another empty hole that was connected. Had a great time just splashing around. It was beautiful. I wish I had a water proof camera. That’s going to be the big money winning invention one day cause we have legit not got photos of activities this trip because of it haha. And I don’t trust the pouches.
Climbing back up the ladder was less scary.
We got some photos of the view from the top and i fed my complimentary banana muffin to the chickens. Had a blast doing that lol
Walked across to another viewpoint and if i have understood correctly a tsunami hit up to cost and killed 200 people in I think 2007.
There was also 2 rocks which were once people? It was open and then the people tuned into rocks so now it’s closed cause they have the key.
Don’t ask me WHAT was opened then closed cause I haven’t a clue hahahah.
I find it so hard to understand 😩😩😩
Went back to the resort which for once was actually nearby (hurray! ) and then we went for a cocktail and a swim.
It’s so hot and we are both burnt even though we have gone through nearly 2 bottles of sunscreen.
Had some lunch, booked a massage for tomorrow and am now just relaxing on our deck.
Read for a while before going for a sit in the ocean.
Have come back and had a 10 minute panic because I couldn’t find my phone.
Will just lying down watching me fret while he stayed put.
Eventually asked if he could help and he soon found it tangled in his blanket 🙄
Relived cause it’s on airplane mode and no WiFi to track/call or message.
Will said he wanted a nap and I commented we would waste the daylight and he retorted he came here to do nothing. Fair play.

And suddenly our quick cat nap turned into a 5 hours snooze fest 🤣🤣
So it’s 7pm and we are at dinner eating another 3 course meal like pigs.
Have I mentioned the garlic bread?? 🤣🤣🤣 world class. Have taken a picture tonight is honor of its mastery.
Had a sasalaka (green fruit) smoothie. Won’t be ordering again but proud of myself for branching out.
Back in the room and there is a gecko on the wall. If it crawls on me during the night I’ll cry.

    Day 3

    14. maaliskuuta, Samoa ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Low key annoyed. Was ready to go by 8 in the reception but got told we were leaving at 9 because of the tide. Completely valid reason but I’m sad cause I’m so tired 😫🤣 An Extra hour of sleep would have been marvelous lol
Arrived back at 9 and and waited around a bit. Went to get on the bus an noticed a lady holding goggles and snorkel and I asked if we needed to go from reception and she said yes 🙃 we have been sitting here 15 minutes as if no one told us this. Would have been so mad if I sat on a bus for an hour for us to not be able to participate. Reception didn’t have anymore so we drove to the boat shed and Will came back with flippers which prompted the other lady to ask if she needed them too which she was told yes 🙃 so she had to get out too.
Communication not ideal but got there in the end.
I read on the bus my hard copy book which I think is my first book since before our big Europe trip. At least 7 years. So weird holding it.
    Again, it’s Africa.
I’m confused how it operates. Each house is so far from the others and there is a school every village but I don’t understand where everyone comes from??? You’re have to walk 50km or are you living in the trees?
how do you get here and then home? You could leave now and wouldn’t be home before school was starting again tomorrow?
It’s the amount of kids that’s throwing me.

Got there, stripped and got in the water.
Now, a lot of complaining is about to happen (even for me) but I did actually have a good time.
BUT got in the water and my snorkel had a hole in it which the guide fixed but still gahhh after I swallowed sea water.
it was also wicked frustrating that one of flippers straps didn’t work. Will fixed it once then I gave up and just used one and had to hold it.
My snorkel also didn’t clip onto my goggles which was annoying when trying to clean my goggles (which were too small.. 🤣) because I didn’t have enough hands to hold my flipper, snorkel and not get water in my eyes…
    anyway.
Saw some beautiful blue starfish and big sea slugs.
I also saw a big turtle which was great. I doubt all tours are successful.
I LOVED the clam section. Hundreds and hundreds of baby ones then they got biggger and bigger and bigger until the BIG ones.
I liked watching them flinch when a fish swam by. Just highlighted they are alive.
There was just the shell of one who must have died which I also though was awesome.
In a fool hearty attempt to clean my goggles while holding all my shit I cut my toes on some coral so I called it a day and swam back to shore.
Ate our free sandwich and muffin while waiting for the others to swim back then got back on the bus.
    Great idea bringing a book.
Our driver makes me uncomfortable. He is a nice my but I don’t know what he is sayingggggggg.

Will went down for a sleep. I read for about an hour he before going in the in the ocean.
I examined some different coral and then I found a little yabby looking thing making a hole. It has made a barrier out of shells and went down and got out scoops of sand on repeat. It had a black fish in the entrance too. I watched them for agessss. I’m sure people though I was weird just staring directly at the water lol

Had a quick 30 min power nap then got ready for Fia Fia night.
Was a buffet dinner which we arrived early for so entertained myself on the Wi-Fi in reception. It’s so dodgy.
Got sat at our table and ended up being seated with the Germans which I was so awkward about. Their English is more than acceptable but not strong enough for constant small talk.
They are quite lovely. Just very German 🤣
The husband had to translate for his wife a a lot of it which I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt - might be why he kept talking during the tour yesterday - he was translating. If yes, then significantly let rude.
1.5 hours of small talk 😬😬😬
Food was good. Especially for the price of buffet and show. The poleneysian peoples plates were commented on my all non poleneysisn descended kiwis and aussies.
They were all literally 6 layers high. I have never seen such full plates in all my life.
German lady even commented how fat they all were 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The show eventually started and they did a karva welcome ceremony which I had such anxiety over i left and went to the toilet. We got taught words and then had to say them if given the Karba but legit everyone also gave a speech so I jumped ship.
Will got picked while I was hiding hahahaha
    WORST NIGHTMARE.

He show began and I enjoyed the dancing.
He woman were obviously very skilled and the men, especially the one always in the middle went HARD.
    They then had 2 volunteers.
    UNCOMFORTABLE.
The man danced with the man and the woman with the woman - they copied.
Then they swapped and freestyled and it turned into this weird orgy hands on grinding dance.
I beg pardon what is happening.

Then was the fire dance which was the clear highlight of the whole evening and excellent.
I crept up front to film. First 2 blokes were amazing but did drop it a few times and I just had this imagine of him losing control and it flinging at me so I moved back to the back to watch.
A duo act and then they finished.
Then we sat down for final dance with a lady in I presume traditional dress and head set
WILL AND I AGREE THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE OF UNCOMFORTABLES
One of our drunk neighbours got up and started dancing with them completely interrupting the performance AND THEN USED HIS MOUTH TO PUT A MONEY NOTE BETWEEN HER BREASTS LIKE A STRIPPER
    Oh.
    My.
    God.

    I cannot.

I felt everyone around us was uncomfortable too and grimacing at each other. 😬
Did some awkward birthday singing then called it a night.

    Day 2

    12. maaliskuuta, Samoa ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Alarm set for 7. 7:30 we rolled out and headed to breakfast. I was 95% sure our tour was meeting at 9 but just in case I wanted to make sure I had eaten in case it was 8.
Not loving the breakfast but it’s free sooo.
In fairness, the fruit is great but not that filling and i was aware I was getting in a bus so wanted to make sure I had a full stomach to combat very potential motion sickness.
I keep needing a sooon and there is a never a spoon?
I wanted one for my spider drink yesterday and today for my passion fruit lol

Lathered on the sunscreen, got dressed and headed to reception.
I’m In my long dress because I think we are going to a church.
We are with 2 other older couples.
1 from Netherlands 1 from Germany.
Guess which couple is rude 🙃 why always the Germans?

Far out, it reminds me of Africa. African Africa not Arab Africa. I love it.

Our first stop was the Bahai temple which is a religion that is basically all religions. They read from the Quran, Bible and everywhere else. They think it’s all the same God.
The gardens are maintained beautifully. Walked into the temple and it was pretty simple. Walked around and then headed for the information center. Some kooky lady approached me and gave me a hug and then told me about the religion which I liked cause she didn’t try to convert me.
I think some of the information was a bit of a stretch such as it’s the second fastest growing/biggest religion.. then immediately bragged they now have a temple in each continent.. wow so many temples…
She said all the temples have 9 doors because it’s an inclusive number or some shit. It includes 1-8 a then all numbers after 9 are just a repeat. *nods* sure things.
They listed that Jesus was from Palestine on the wall which I though was ballsy.
I don’t really know what happens after you die but I don’t have a problem with all the Gods actually being the same God/stemming from the same place.
I’ll stick to my lane though.

We then went to a famous writers house and went on tour. Cool house. He only lived there for a few years before dying. He moved there because he ha TB and was told to go to a warm climate.
We didn’t really know who he was until we entered his library with some of his works…
    - Treasure island
    - Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
    - Arabian nights
Oh. Those are some biiiiig names. We are paying attention now.
Will didn’t know Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde??? Did he never watch Scooby Doo?
    Author was Robert Louis Stevenson.
Maybe 9 rooms all up. Most things replicas because 2 cyclones hit the house but still cool.
He is buried on top on a nearby mountain which you can hike.
    There were cats here too.

We then went to the pacific jewel which was apart of our itinerary which I laughed at cause it’s just a shop and a cafe lol the highlight of Samoa.
I saw then bought an egg for mum which I can give for Mother’s Day.
We were given aero guard and fans for when we sat in the garden haha.

We then went to the cathedral of the immaculate conception
    ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AND UNEXPECTED
The roof was made of wood and I loved that the main dome was Samoan themed people with Jesus.

Across the street from the church was a bay. There was a chinese overturned boat/ship on the shore that crashed last month.

Went and saw some buses. I don’t really understand the excitement about the buses but the other 2 couples got out and spent a while photographing them all. The one next to us was completely full of people and the windows have bars like jail cells and the Dutch man full posed in front of it and I both found him/the situation hilarious and it uncomfortable because it really gave off animals in a zoo vibe
They be like why the fuck are you photographing us on a bus 🤣
We went to the markets yet and ended up getting a magnet of a bus because I honestly think that will crack top 5 moments of the trip.
I don’t understand how market people make money.
Soooo many stalls but it’s legit the same store repeated? Sell something different and you might make more money.
We bought another magnet with our bus magnet, a shirt each and a coconut to drink.

Our driver is very islander time and the Germans were proper stressed because they really insisted a time to be back at the bus at the markets and guide was all like just take your time and they couldn’t handle this. I hated it too to be fair.

The 4 of us ended up beating the other couple back by a long time and guide was like I don’t know where they are or when they will be back and Germans lady said exasperatedly
“Well if you set a time..” which I did laugh at.

On the drive to the waterfall guide did a big speech about how it’s not allowed in our countries butin Samoan culture they beat their children with sticks and the bus was just sitting in awkward silence. Cause he was like “it’s a good thing” 👀 I want to believe he meant smack and no beat them black and blue but I do not believe he did 😬😬😬

Togitogiga waterfall was nice but not the best thing I’ve seen from a tourist point of view. Bloody sensational if you live down the street and it’s your local swimming hole.
    It was very busy.
One kid was covered in big puss filled boils. I wasn’t in the mood fr swimming but I honestly wouldn’t have gotten in with him if I was. Kid needs a doctor.
Beautiful red flowers on the walk to the falls.

I don’t know how they get anywhere. In town had streets but there is literally 2 streets for the rest of the island. One goes around and the other goes down the middle. Wild. And tedious.

It was so hottttt. My clothes were soaked in sweat.

The Samoan people aren’t as friendly as I was expecting.

Went for a swim when home and water money on a margarita. I didn’t drink it. Watered down tequila. Awful. Will had 2 successful cocktails.
    Love swimming.
Used our outdoor shower then chilled in the room for a bit.

Had dinner. Mixed reviews. My deep fried banana was divine.
Back In the room and going to bed early cause I a shattered lol.

    Day 1

    11. maaliskuuta, Samoa ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Had the alarm set for 9 but that was less that 6 hours sleep so it wasn’t really until 10 we got moving to officially check in.
We then went and had some quick breakfast even though it was finishing.
The view from our room is BEAUTIFUL.
    The whole place is beautiful.
After breakfast we booked som tours for the week at reception then got into our cozzies and went for a dip in the ocean. It’s all coral so hard to walk into but once you get far enough in to swim it’s fab. Temperature was fab. EVERYTHING was fab!
We will get snorkels later to look at the fish and reef.
We then headed to the pool for a cocktail. Pool was lovely too. I’m loving everything hahah
Just potted around in the water for a bit then went and got dressed for lunch. Prices are higher than I expected but still more than reasonable.
We are having a snoooze now.
    It’s a tough life.

    4 hours later… 😅
I went back in to the beach as high tide was back but it was a bit more push and pull than before and as I was by myself and have an Australian water safety standards, I got out (even though only up to my knees when standing lol.)
Found Will reading on the deck so joined him with my kindle. 2 cats came for a visit. 6 live here snd all with clean bill of health. 10/10 resort.
I had another shower cause sand everywhere. It’s the volcanic sands so very large pieces that are very annoying when in your pants haha.
Got dressed for dinner and went to the Resturant.
Ultimately I think we are probably going to go over budget by the end… don’t care. Not by much but dinner tonight was $116 aud so this is going toads up quickly 😬
Delicious though. Garlic bread was to die for!
Our room neighbours are very loud and chatty. Asked where we were from and suggested North Pole or Europe because we are both fluorescent white ha ha ha go fuck yourself. 🖕🏼🤣
We found a big crab on our way back to the room. He ran away quick and then when we were trying to get close to him he went into stealth mode. Very cool.
Also found some little hermit crabs on the path today.
Went in the pier and had a look at the stars. BEAUTiful.
Back in the hotel now and going to read again.
We have had a very relaxing day.

    Transit

    10. maaliskuuta, Fidži ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

Had an absolute heart drop last night.
Went to check In online and got all the way until the end before it asked for our visa number and it was compulsory to fill in and I was like omfg.
Do I need one to transit in Fiji??? or have I misunderstood Samoan requirements???
Quick search indicated no but I couldn’t check in without it so this morning we had to arrive 3 hours early because check in was only open for 1 hour and then closed 2 hours before flight which is less wriggle time than usual.
Checked in with a person and no visa needed PHEW!
We went to a cafe which had a robot being all the food to the table.
I ordered with a person rather than the QR code but I bet there was an option to tip and it’s a big no from me on a regular day but if I’m ordering myself it’s now it’s being delivered by a robot. The audacity. 🤣
    Robot was cool though.
I had a DELICIOUS biscoff frappe. Going to have this flavor more often.
Getting through security was easy enough but we both commented it’s a weird airport.
The 3 hours passed quick enough and we boarded. Paid an extra $20 each for an exit row sway which was amazing and then we had no one not to us as an added bonus. Yewww.
I slept on my tray a lot of the way and Will listened to a podcast.
Very bumpy on the way down but we made it and are currently in Nadi for a 5 hour layover.
It was such a tropical open space when we landed and then in the foyer where 3 men with ukuleles. Nice vibes.
Not many shops inside but has a Burger King so we currently just chilling.
    Time dragged lol.
There weren’t many flights out (only 3. One to Melbourne, one to LA and one to Apia)
So airport was empty most of the time. Eventually a hoard of Americans arrived.
Americans that venture outside their country are fab. I like listening into their conversations. Always so animated and enthused.
    Book store/newsagents was crap.
Had dodgy wifi but at least it had.
    Finally boarded at 9:30pm.
Plane wasn’t full and we had another win - no one in our exit row with us wooo!
I do find this strange. I genuinely would have thought it was the only section of the plane that ha to have people to help if needed.
    Not complaining.
Flight was smoother than the first one and we landed on time.
They ran out of immigration cards on the plane so most people had to do it on arrivals which I think slowed customs downs alotttt.
Got through though so YAY TO US AND OUR 50th country!
Our walk from the plane to customs was so slow and I was like *eye roll* we are on island time already so I muttered to Will we are moving at a blistering speed aren’t we and he said SO LOUDLY
“She’s blind you dickhead” which he found hysterical but I found so embarrassing cause I felt paranoid everyone was looking at me lol. Not my fault I can’t see over the tops of heads like he can 🙄🤣

Got our bags and headed, handed in our arrival card, scanned our bags for quarantine then found our driver which I was relieved to find. I always gets anxious when I book so far in advance that a new got lost along the way and no one will turn up.

My thoughts on the drive even though it was now 2am and very dark.

It has Kenya vibes. It’s like Africa with more palm trees. Especially the corner stores.
So many churches!! Our driver blasted Jesus music our whole drive which I loved. Especially cause he didn’t give us a choice he just did it.
There is consistent misconception when we are overseas that we value speed over safety. Our drive could absolutely have been worse but still stressed me out.
Please get off your phone, please slow down for the wild boar, please don’t play chicken with oncoming cars, just move over and please don’t go so fast. 😫
Don’t die. On arrival he got our key and took us to our room. We were so awkward because we had no internet and didn’t know if we were meant to tip or not and I felt like the dude lingered like he might have been waiting.. unsure. Still without reliable internet..
Past 3 am when we finally got into bed and both fell asleep immediately.
