    Varanasi, India

    May 9, 2015 in India ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Next stop Beijing in China!

    Varanasi at sunrise

    June 4, 2018 in India ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

This morning we woke up early to catch the early morning sunrise activities at the Ganges (early mornings are usually a huge effort for our family!). Lila dipped her feet into to river, and Jean went for a swim. After the buzzing activity of the evening, the relative calm of people bathing and washing in the morning shows the amazing life this river brings. Later that day we explored more if the old streets and was so humbled by a rickshaw driver who gave us half our money back when we paid him, saying it was only fair. This honesty in a rickshaw driver in this city is really rare, and was really nice :)Read more

The spiritual capital of India, it is the holiest of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) in Hinduism and Jainism, and played an important role in the development of Buddhism. Safely arrived at Varanasi!

    February 5, 2018 in India ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Finally... we made it to Varanasi (aka Benares).
The moment we arrived, Yves was surrounded by Taxi drivers. He couldn't escape...
I couldn't stop laughing. It was just like celebrity vs paparazzi. Haha

Evening rituals on the Ganges river

    February 5, 2018 in India ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

As soon we arrived at our hotel, we checked in and left immediately with our cab driver to the Ganges. Because the sunset started... so that means the evening rituals on the Ganges were about to begin.
We didn't want to miss this!!!
At 18h30 we arrived and took a boat to see the BURNING GHAT (cremation place) and of course the GANGA AARTI (spiritual ritual)

The offering is made to the Goddess Ganga, goddess of the most holy river in India.
Our magical flower and candle aarti is now floating on the Ganges river and is full of our blessings. ❤

This was an amazing and unique experience.
    Goosebumps...

    Indian cuisine @ Varanasi

    February 5, 2018 in India ⋅ 🌫 18 °C

After our incredible boat trip on the Ganges river & the Rituals, it was time for dinner and our first meal of the day! We were starving!
Since the food is made with the Ganges water, we didn't eat any street food. So we only ate at our hotel and didn't get sick!! Yay!!! 😄

    Our choices:

    Starter: paneer
Main course: Butter chicken tikka masala + naan (Yves), Palak Paneer + rice (Sin)
And of course... my favorite... Indian DOSA with 3 delicious dips! Love this soooo much! But I've never seen a dosa this big! 😍 Look how happy I am! 😁

While we were walking through the small streets of Varanasi, we passed twice a parade of a dead man that was carried to the burning ghat.
While bringing him to this sacred place, the people are throwing flowers at him.

    Varanasi, außergewöhnlich und einprägsam

    December 8, 2017 in India ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Read more

    Varanasi

    September 19, 2016 in India ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

Read more
