Departed Rome via train, which was easier than expected.
Arrived here to 22 degrees, and a very different vibe to Rome
Beautiful boutique hotel which was a family estate and run by the family.
Pluses are absolutely stunning views and adorable rooms, with a bathroom almost the same size as our bedroom
Downers are the swimming pool has been out of action for past 11 months, no restaurant onsite, though complimentary breakfast is included
Took a walk into town down three levels of steps of about 100. Thankfully, there's an escalator that goes from the town road halfway up only due to top part of it, under repair.Read more
Traveler Yes we going to be fit going up those stairs… The views from our balcony are outstanding. the tiny streets that we wondered through just made our adventure down the hill

Den nächsten Tag haben wir uns für die Erkundung Salernos eingeplant. 🧭
Nach entspanntem Aufstehen und einem Frühstück ging es also los Richtung Altstadt. Da unser Airbnb recht zentral lag, war diese schnell erreicht. Soviel gab es dort auch nicht zu sehen. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Zum Mittag sind wir dann in ein nahes Restaurant eingekehrt, wo das Essen zwar sehr lecker, das Personal aber maßlos überfordert war. Mutti musste fast 45 Min auf ihr Risotto warten und unser Essen kam soviel früher, dass wir zu dem Zeitpunkt schon fertig waren 🤣
Naja , nach dem Essen ging es nochmal zum Dom der Altstadt und danach zurück nachhause. ⛪️ Wir haben die Kameras weggebracht und den Nachmittag mit Schnäppchen Jagt verbracht. Schuhe für 10€ das Paar kann man sich ja nicht entgehen lassen! 👠
Den Abend haben wir in einer schönen Bar am Hafen ausklingen lassen 🌙Read more

Day 32
Isle of Capri - part 2.

The boat trip around the island alsoshowed us what an absolutely gorgeous island it is. The cliffs are very dramatic. The sea colour, like everywhere we've been, is a brilliant colour. The shade varies with the depth of water. We were fortunate that the sun was shining in the green grotto so we could clearly see it. In fact it was a brilliant blue because of the sun, apparently like the blue grotto which we could not see into. To get in there they take a maximum of 4 on a boat and you have to pretty much lie down to get into the grotto. If it's high tide you don't have enough room to enter.

It would be nice to spend longer in this breathtakingly beautiful region and explore more of the towns but we are in a "highlights" tour and tomorrow we move on to see a different part of southern Italy.Read more

Salerno - the road less travelled - via Brindisi and Taranto.
A very early start - 6.40 am train from Lecce! With changes at Brindisi and Taranto before getting to Salerno around 2pm. I had hoped to be able to see a bit of these towns, but not everything goes to plan. Nonetheless it was a good trip, especially as we travelled through spectacular mountains, over ravines, and along valleys. The clumps and fields of poppies added delightful color along the way.
Salerno is a lovely city, modern and relaxed with a charming old quarter, where our airbnb was located. We had a good wander before finding somewhere for a drink and then dinner. Our wanderings took us along the seafront, and to some of the little piazzas and lanes we walked last time we were here (Christmas 2019) for the Festival of Lights.Read more

Leaving Amalfi and headed to Salerno

We did a quick pit stop in the town of Amalfi to catch the ferry to Salerno to pickup our rental car and head south inland. Overall we were awestruck with the Amalfi coast. For those looking to stay our recommendations would be to consider Maori or Minori for coastal towns or Ravello for a Cliffside town. They are all slightly less touristy and crowded than Positano and Amalfi while still offering the beauty and ample restaurants and attractions. You can catch the hourly bus to all these towns as they are connected to Almafi and Positano. Pictures from Amalfi to Salerno by ferry below.Read more

Nach einem entspannten und sommerlich warmen Tag am Strand, fahre ich heute die Küste ein ganzes Stück weiter nach Norden und besuche Salerno.
Ich brauche eine Weile, um mit der Stadt warm zu werden, denn durch die großstädtische Prägung und den wolkenverhangenen Himmel lerne ich eine neue Seite des Landes kennen.
Spätestens der kleine, aber durch die Terrassierung spannende Garten der Minerva schafft es mein Herz zu öffnen und mich mit tollen Ausblicken und botanischen Besonderheiten zu begeistern. Ebenso sehenswert ist der Dom, der sich als altchristliche Basilika mit vorgelagertem Atrium und durch seine arabischen Einflüsse hervorhebt.
Die grüne Uferpromenade bietet einen guten Blick auf die bergige Amalfiküste, die ich in den nächsten Tagen erkunden möchte.Read more

Nach dem gestrigen doch noch schönen, sonnigen Nachmittag in Paestum ( Nachts und morgens hat's wieder geregnet) beschließen wir auf der Weiterfahrt Salerno anzuschauen. 3 Std waren wir dort, es ist allerdings schwierig mit dem 7 mtr. langen Womo einen geeigneten Parkplatz zu finden. Geparkt haben wir dann oberhalb des Hafens auf der Ausfallstraße. Mann kann sich die Stadt auf der Durchreise anschauen, aber unbedingt sehenswert, finden wir sie allerdings nicht.
Der Dom hat uns am besten gefallen.Read more
