The city of romance... and rain!September 23 in Italy ⋅ 🌧 16 °C
Our day to give the boys their first debut of the city of love, or should that be the city of water! Yes, it rained! Luckily not all day and in doses of 2min downpours so we still got to enjoy it.
Zac was bursting to do a gondola ride - just as we boarded the heavens opened for the first time. Was almost comical - the gondolier quickly got us under the first bridge where we huddled with another gondola and waited it out. Was easy to see how flooding has become a huge issue, mainly due to the huge cruise ships causing waves. He said locals no longer live on the ground floors.
Despite a bit of rain, it still stole my heart. There is just something about it - wandering around small streets, no cars and the “”wow” as you cross another bridge and look down the canal.
Peggy Guggenheim museum was interesting - thou seeing real life Warhol and Picasso paintings was slightly lost on the little ones!
We had a sunset dinner by the grand canal - in a posh restaurant which I’m sure all the other well dressed elderly folk drinking fine wines really appreciated. Especially when Zac almost set fire to the table by knocking over the tall ornate candle and spreading wax everywhere.
Venice with young children definitely provides a different viewpoint.
